Hurley is a gun defender and an ordinary forward.

Btw, I don't need to hear about delivery, etc, or a better midfield supply. I loved him as a defender in juniors and just don't see a gun forward. When splitting packs is you main asset as a forward you've got a problem.

So why does Hird play him forward if like everyone says he is a better defender? Surely Hird would know which position is best for him? Not sure he is going to rip the comp apart like some people think.

Hurley was played forward because we had Fletcher/Carlisle/Hooker down back (who were playing well early in the season) and we only had Crameri and the resting ruck in the forward line. They needed someone with a bit of aggro in the forward line to be the main focal point. I think even Hird admitted at the end of the year was that Hurley was a much more natural defender, but circumstances meant we needed him as a forward for most of the year.

I think they found out he is a natural defender as his marking is not good enough for CHF.

Yeah he is good, but his trajectory has certainly changed since he first burst on to the scene. It's also got to be a worry that he has so many soft tissue issues at his age.

He definitely as a lot of potential but I'm beginning to think that it may never be fulfilled in the same vain as Pears, Gumbleton and believe it or not Hooker.

I picked Hurley because I thought this was Carlton's Walker. T.Walker is and will be(IMO) better than Hurley. Though Hurley will still be a gun.

Hurley at the start of his career was better than Walker at the same stage, but Walker has cruised past Hurley as if he's standing still. Hurley has really stagnated at Essendon, his output has really plateaued since about his 2nd year. I'm very grateful that the Crows have Walker, and that he was a steal in the draft.

Hurley was brilliant for us last year. In fact he finished third in our B&F last year with our highest votes per game average.

2012 was a poor start admittedly, Kicked 6 goals and 5 goals in consecutive weeks to have his two best goal hauls before doing his hamstring the next week.

Hopefully he's back to his best in 2013.

Walker rightfully should be winning as of now.

Fair draft as you also picked up Dangerfield. Along with Cotchin the Crows could have 2 of the best 3 players from that draft.

Yeh pretty happy with how it worked out, although obviously we snagged Walker under the NSW scholarship program so not sure you can say he was actually part of the 2007 National draft

We should see his hands improve once he gets that enormous amount of tape off his hand after he gets the wrist reconstruction and hopefully his scaphoid injury is ok now.

Unfortunately, the scaphoid injury is probably the worst injury you can have. They basically never heel and he'll be playing with that for the rest of his career. Not that i think it will hinder him and I look forward to Hurls playing on Tex for the next 10 years. Won't matter where the teams are placed it'll be awesome watching these 2 guns go at it.

So there is a chance he will never get his marking back?

Walkers got him at the moment, i have no fears regarding Hurley becoming one of the stars of the comp fwd or back, it's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when.

Much more likely as a back IMO. I think that would also work out better for the Dons with the emergence of Crameri, and Daniher coming in too.
