Given the recent events in the AFL world and many ""experts"" predicting us for the spoon, would you accept this trade?

Chris Judd

for

Pick 1 and Coughlan

Our future midfield:

Brett Deledio, Chris Judd, Richard Tambling, Shane Edwards, Daniel Connors, Oakley-Nicholls and Danny Meyer.

We'd be the fastest, most skillful midfield since... Judd's ex-team!

If Cousins follows the path of Gardiner they would like an immediate, quality replacement. Coughlan could almost equal his workrate (Cuz is best in comp so can't be matched) and with Daniel Kerr, Fletcher etc they would still dominate. The #1 draft pick will be ripe when this midfield is 28-30 allowing their window to stay open a little longer.

I know it won't happen so this is purely a hyperthetical question.

Would you make the trade? And if we did get the #1 pick, would you trade it if it would bring Judd to us?

In my opinion Coughlan is untoachable, even in a Judd mega-trade.

He deserves our support through thick and thin, and if he gets back to his best he will have 6+ elite years ahead of him (he's one year older than Judd).

While the notion of us winning a wooden spoon is completely incromprehensable to me this year, I would rather a #1 draft pick to run alongside Deledio and co. :)

Do we have a 'hooch-induced' folder for this one?
Can we let Benny bounce the ball before we have him committed?
;)

The question with Judd is can anyone fit him in the cap? Also think West Coast are going to want a VERY early draft or even three draft picks plus 2 to 3 players to start off with. If a non Victorian Team wins the Wooden Spoon could put too much pressure on all Victorian Clubs to get a decent trade.

Too early to know.

If we got 2 first round draft picks for Brad Nottens

What would someone like Judd command?

pick 1 & a broken down Cogs? come on I know this is all make believe but could we atleast be serious with our offers?

I have a conspiracy theory that we have been clearing the decks with our salary cap for the past few years for exactly this situation.

To come up with enough salary cap space it would take either a club already at the minimum, or a club that can flog off players on high $$.

But players on contract for big $ are nearly impossible to trade.

Another option might be players like Kouta or Hird retire on big $ and free up space for the following year. But clubs usually fill up that free space in advance with second or third year components of existing players' contracts.

With this in mind we might be able to do well in a bidding war based solely on salary (because we will have cap space). But the anciliary benefits might see Collingwood do well with Eddie's connections.

In addition West coast would want our first 2 picks and Deledio (if not more!). Just depends on what other teams are prepared to offer them. No-one will touch Coughlan. He's handy - good even - but with two recos he is not a tradeable commodity.

Benny your sounding worst than those Collingwood fans on the same issues saying Didak is too good to give up for Judd, laughable!

Chris Judd is the best player in the competition and by some way, he is one of the most elite midfielders ever and he's what 23 years old? We dont have enough for him, period.

He would command 2 first rounders and a good young talent so, no chance!

I would rather keep building our list.

I would give WC all our draft picks for the next 10 years if we could get Judd in a trade.

A number 1 draft pick will be the same calibre as a Brett Deledio, Marc Murphy, Bryce Gibbs, etc

Coughlan and Gibbs for Judd?

Maybe another 1st rounder too.... which could be the equivalent of say Marc Murphy + Lance Franklin + Coughlan = Judd.

Maybe they'd want Deledio and Tambling (after Bling's break out year) and a pick?

Remember in this scenario we'd be able to get him in the PSD if no deal was met. If we make the highest offer and it still isn't enough... they will accept.

I wouldn't give up Lids and Tambling...what if both reached their full potential, 2 of them would be better than one (Judd), even though Judd is clearly the best player in the AFL, I'd rather 2 greats than one.

The thing people must realise when considering a Judd-like trade is what we would have to give up to get him, how to fit him into the salary cap and how much it can divide a club when one individual becomes the most important aspect of a club.
I'd rather build our club through multiple draft picks over time than pick one (admittedly champion) player. One player (even as good as Judd) isn't going to solve our problems. Astute recruiting through the national draft is the only way out of our mess.

here here.

Why in gods name would we want to trade for him if we got the wooden spoon? I'd be giving west coast all our draft picks on thursday and taking a wrong turn at about the deadline time then pick him up in the pre season (either way his wage would be astronomical I suppose). Whilst I'd love nothing more than to see him in a Tigers midfield I doubt we could fit him into the club

ROFL...........Tambling isn't worthy of wiping Judds @ss. Will go down as one of richmonds worst draft picks in History. Over rated hack. As for Deledio, we can only hope he becomes as half as good as Judd, cos he never will reach the pinnacle of Judds performances

The original "hypothetical" we'd take, but no-one in their right mind would ever take that. So you're spot on tugga. Adding Judd to our lineup would be akin to plonking a cocktail umbrella on a glass of sewage. Sure he's one of the best I've seen, and he's still only a young lad, but he wouldn't be our messiah. If he misses a game at WC, they still win. If he'd miss a game for us, we'd still get pumped. Quality depth is what we should be about. This will take us years still.

If the WCE's were dumb enough to take that trade then yes, but realistically they would never do it and although Judd might leave if the implosion at the Eagles continues, I don't think we should go after him.

For the simple reason that Judd is not going to win us a flag on his own, we had people talking on this site about the Tigers chasing the quick fix by going after Johnson and Brown at the expense of kids. The only real way we would even have a hope of getting Judd is if he walked out at the end of the year, we finished stone motherless last and could afford his contract.

I don't see either of those things happening at present.

If anyone syas Deledio in the same sentence as trade you should die.

Exactly. While on paper Deledio for Judd is good for us, the club is not a business. There are a few players who are the heart and soul of a club and the supporters will never support to see them go even if a good player replaces them.

It would be like trading Richo... it's just not on. Imagine trading him when he was 20yo for a 25yo then watching Richo dominate for the next 15 years while we get a very good 5 year player..
