I Love Richmond Because

I used to be a Deputy Sherriff in Ohio USA and this old Crazy guy who had a private zoo let over 50 wild animals out one day and committed suicide. It was a bad scene as a lot of these animals had been mistreated by this old kook and were un fed which proved a danger to the local community.

To cut a long story short in the space of 24 hours I had to shoot dead 18 Bengal Tigers amongst a few bears, lions and mountain cats to protect the local town folk.

It was hard to do but had to be done. Ever since then I have supported the Tigers through and through and I feel as though I owe them.

Tigers for ever

Shot dead 18 un fed Tigers...sounds to me like you shot your mouth off with a big Porky here instead...:p:eek::D...

It's a love/hate relationship and I know it's unhealthy for me but I can't leave because they always promise to change but the never do...

We're all the same mate. We're all the same. Tiger Blood.

My whole family are geelong supporters! And I too were once a Geelong supporter till about age 8... Life is tough, very tough after I keep gettin reminded every weekend about that decision I made
To change...
But hey I still don't regret the decision ;) I have faith that one day we will be back ! And I can't wait for the myself along with the tiger army to roar and get recognition back. It might take a while but am living in hope

Thought I'd chip in share why I love Richmond...

My earliest memories of the Richmond Football club were in the late 70s where I was around 4 or 5 years old. My dad was an immigrant from Germany and when he arrived in the early 60s was in a hostel with a heap of others from England, Sri Lanka, India and Holland.

Richmond was on the rise with Tom Hafey taking over as coach and breeding what was to be a pretty special decade of football for the Tigers. Dad and his buddies jumped on the ride early and were rewarded with wins in 67, 69, 73 and 74.

They would go to every game, week in and week out, and by the time I was old enough to go to games they were hardened, take no rubbish supporters who stood on the hills of the suburban grounds. Remember going out to Princes Park, Windy Hill, Moorabbin, Vic Park, Western Oval etc and not being able to see the game until well into the 3rd quarter.

Being knee high to a grass hopper I used to cling on to Dads leg as he and his mates would drink their way through can after can... they always managed to secure a spot next to the Beer vendors in the outer, and being so close they would collect the cartons the cans came in and put their empties in creating a stack of cartons. By the time the 3rd quarter came around the stack was tall enough so that I could see the games! :D:thumbsu:

The catch cry for Dad and his mates was the ol' Eat Em Alive. They were ruthless... if we were down by 5 goals... don't worry, we'll kick em in the arse in the last... if we were up by 5 goals... don't worry, we'll kick em in the arse some more in the last! Watching Sheeds, Bartlett and Bourke were some of my earliest memories.

Come 1980, I was 6 and in my prime... going to that finals series and watching the way the Tiges simply destroyed the opposition was amazing. If anyone had said that we'd a crumbling mess within 10 years we'd have laughed at them... it was our time.

The likes of Roachy, Bazza Rowlings, a Young Flea, The General Lee and the Ghost were faves. Remember dad organising a birthday card from Disco in 1981 for my 7th birthday with a signed pic in it being a treasured item.

Dad changed jobs and did a lot of shift work in the mid 80s, and he felt bad that he couldn't take me along as much as he and his mates did... so like any good Tiger dad, he signed me up to the Cheer Squad and figured that if I at least got to the games safely I'd be in amongst a group of Tiger supporters.

It was around this time that I got closer to the club, and was able to get to meet and get to know a few heroes. Flea, Michael Mitchell, Des Ryan and a young Brian Leys were very good to me, and upon seeing me walking around the outer and heading into the old Northern Stand rooms on occasion often resulted in a wink and a "hey pete" from the boys.

I could go on and on and on... but the club is like family to me. Although we haven't had anywhere near the success that we all thought we'd have at the end of 1980, I still love this club... I bleed black and yellow. I was there during the Save our Skins campaign. I walked the outer at Waverley Park on that first weekend of the campaign... I stood at the gates of Waverley prior to a North and Collingwood match rattling tins... Heck I even missed the famous Jack Dyer speech at the MCG because I decided to help out and stand on the corner of Hoddle and Johnston with a bucket raising as many dollars as possible to keep our beloved club alive.

I know that one day we will rise again... and when we do, I will stand proudly once more... I don't care how many "bandwagoners" jump aboard the ride... the more the merrier. This club will once more become the most dominant side in the competition on and off the field. I know it...

Some of my fave Tiger moments...

* Walking from Richmond Station to the G in 1983 to watch KB play his last game... the congregation chanting "KB" all the way along
* Hoggy slotting his 10th against the Pies in the Mothers Day Massacre
* Walking across the G with my Dad after the 95 Semi Final win and standing in the middle with him soaking it all up... then sinking a few pots in the London Tavern while the club song played for about the 14th time in a row
* Holding up the banner for the Flea's 300th game
* Watching a mate fulfill my dream of playing for the Tiges
* Walking towards the G with sea of Yellow and Black on any big Tiger game

Many more I could mention but the above ones will always stick with me!

Man I love this club

What a fantastic read, thanks Pete!

I sincerely nominate: POTY! :thumbsu:

Im only 19 years of age so not that many memories but the ones i have are key in my life.

I was born a Tiger with my mum gaining influence over me and my father failing as he is a Collingwood supporter. I was promised what ever i wanted from the shop that was collingwood with no expense. from that day he still is trying to get me to join the Pies but i refuse every time !

My mum and Fathers sister both said to me never change your colors be a tiger through thick and thin and the wins will be great! Through that i have stuck buy that motto and when i have kids of my own ill say the same thing.

I have to say there has been many screams of enjoyment but more tears of disappointment in my early years but for some reason i have stuck through to now.

One memory was when we played the Bombers and i was living in Sydney at the time and my father had all his mates over to watch the game on teh new big screen. this game was huge (believe it was a final or a game taht woudl get us into the final?) but as the game progressed the mighty Tigers were failing and my dad and his friends were taking a piss and me and my mum gave them the biggest spray causing them to leave the room!

Other memories such as a game were we played sydney at the SCG and this was in there prime and i was walking out and i was a bit depressed that we lost and an old tiger came up behind me and said dont worry mate we have one 10 and they have only won one so that means this team was made for greatness don't ever forget that !

and ill never forget richos last game were he walked around the G very sad

Go tigers

I have been a member since I was born - loved the Tigers for life!

Nothing would make me happier than seeing the Tigers win the Premiership in the next few years!

GO TIGERS!!!!:thumbsu:

my die hard carlton supporting dad entered me into a raffle at his footy club when i was 18 months old,i won a richmond footy and grew up kicking it around as a kid.the rest is history my dad still regrets that raffle to this day.

Like others my family is all Richmond. However in the days of Waverly Park in its final year. I often went there to support the ground etc to save it from going under. I put my name down on a save Waverly Park paper. Shortly After Hawthorn started sending me Hawthorn News, Memberships to me however not my dad. I am Richmond will always be Richmond so i told Hawthorn where to go. I am a tiger til death do us part :D

Bring on the finals the year we do make it. I am 30 with limited success in regards to seeing Tigers in the finals.
