I was just thinking about some of the amazing things I've seen at the footy and thought it would be good to see what others witnessed first hand.

Some of the things I've seen.....

  • Brian Wilson jump the fence at Arden Street to fight with a cheersquad member
  • The famous elephant incident
  • The Hot Dog stand burning down
  • Merv Neagle going into the fence at Arden street
  • Jimmy Krakouer decking Mark Harvey at Windy Hill
  • Phil Krakouer's goal of the year at the MCG
  • Matty Larkin beating the whole West Coast side for his awesome goal
  • Brett Allison's screamer against the pies
  • Carey's demolition of Melbourne
  • Drawn Final against the Hawks
  • Hand of God:mad:
  • 1985 Elimination Final agaist the blues....what a comeback!
  • Premierships......the roar when the duck held up that cup......shivers
  • Abraham's mark in Canberra
  • First loss in Sydney.......***king Greg Williams
  • The feeling of shock on the Sunday Princess Di died and the announcement on the scoreboard in a game against the pies

There is many more....these are just to name a few.

I was there when...

Thommo kicked the come-from-behind winner against the Pies.
Jason Mccartney game.
2007 QF vs Geelong, stayed the whole game.
Win this year vs Saints.

I'll be back with more.;)

Dwyer's buzzer beater against Carlton at Princes Park in 1985.

Yeah, most of the O.P.'s stuff.:thumbsu:

I was at Arden Street when a very underrated North player from Tassie named Darryl Sutton played half the game at full back and half the game at full forward and still kicked 10 goals.

Can anyone of the resident historians recount the year this happened? Mr R? kangaroo7? I'm guessing the 78 or 79.

John Longmire's 14 goals against Melbourne in 1990

The night Archer almost killed Carey

McCartney's game

Listening to Anthony Rock drunkenly swear/say something offensive at Arden st the Sunday after the 1996 GF (cant remember what it was)

Shane Harvey's last game (against Carlton at OO in 2004...or 2005?)

LEIGH BROWN'S DESTROYATION OF ADELAIDE IN ROUND 1 2004

I'm flattered you'd think of me as a historian, Mario. I'm just old!:o

KickItAnywhereKingy and Marstermind are 2 posters that might be able to help you.

I always remember:
- the "agent orange/grandstand evacuation" incident during the Bob Ansett presidency,
- the Krakouers first Arden St game,
- the Francis Bourke bloodbath game,
- average ruckman Bill Berry's best game of all time at fullback on a young Paul Salmon,
- Keith Greig getting his foot stuck under the fence for several minutes while play went on in the North v Hawthorn game played at the SCG for premiership points
- "Gentleman" Ross Glendinning's shirtfront of Bill Duckworth at Windy Hill and
- the Carey memories (too numerous to detail):thumbsu:.

Schimmas's 300 game and narrow victory vs Geelong at Kardinia Park 1987; including a 16/17 year old Shaun Smith screamer on the wing.

Keith Greig getting cleaned up by Ray Card right in front of me - he didn't even get a free, despite two black eyes and a broken nose!!!!!

Going to Geelong in the rain with two Geelong supporters and a Royboy and watching us not score after 1/4 time. Then the car breaks down on the Geelong Rd on the way home and the Royboy deserts us because he's got a date with 2 lesbians (very good reason to leave us in my view).

The 125 annerversary game in 93 cavalcade of north stars and we beat the pies

99 and the roar of the crowd when horse got his medal by far the loudest of any player.

95 preliminary loss to carlton Crocker KO'ed Williams and the tosser next to me threw a can at him as the stretcher was walked around the boundry.

96 and the last Roos v Fitzroy game, was full of merger speculation and even had a jumper in the old away strip with the Roo on it in gold.

96 gf game and then at arden st when Corey came out and said "this is one medal they can't take off me' and Keka's rant about having to borrow a cup from carlton to hold the GF breakfast and how we now had the gold one.

Breaking the 9 year drought against hawthorn beat 'em by like 125 points.

my teenage years were blessed, much like my thirtys will be!!!!

Yes, I must be about the OP's vintage, or probably a bit older. I saw most of those. In addition (doing this from memory, please excuse screamingly obvious inaccuracies):

  • Sam Kekovich smashing Brent Croswell's nose with a vicious elbow near the fence at half forward on the grandstand side. When Tiger was a Carlton player, of course, so early 70's.
  • Round 11, 1972. We played Geelong at Waverley, both teams having a 0-10 record at that stage. They won.
  • Big Mick Nolan's burst of speed to intercept a kick-in and drill a goal on the run, in a semi-final at Waverley (Geelong? 1976?)
  • Seeing Robert Walls absolutely shattered half an hour after the 1976 Preliminary Final which we stole by a point. Mario will attest to the fact that Daryl Sutton starred that day as well.
  • Choppy v Krummel. Enough said.
  • Seeing 4 premierships!!!! And a couple of GF losses (well, 4 actually).
  • The Duck! The Duck! The Duck! Nothing comes close, before or since.

John Longmire's 14 goals against Melbourne in 1990

I sat in the top of the Northern Stand and went mental that day.:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Johnny Longmires 12 goal haul against Richmond that same year.:)

Johnny Longmire, requiring 4 goals for the century in the last game of that same season, kicking 2.8 against the Pies out at Waverley and finishing the season on 98 goals. We also got thumped. :(

Sam Kekovich smashing Brent Croswell's nose with a vicious elbow near the fence at half forward on the grandstand side. When Tiger was a Carlton player, of course, so early 70's.

YES!!!:)

I'm pretty sure it was 1973-74. Kekovich went mental that day and I'm pretty sure he also busted Walls's jaw, as well us fixing up Crosswell.

North got up by a kick or so (8 points?), after being regularly flogged by Carlton for several previous years.

Sutton kicked 5 goals. BOG. :thumbsu:

Being a bazillion points up late in the second and still losing against Essendon is one that comes to mind.

I have never loved and despised something in such equal measures as that day.

Corey Jones banana at the SCG in Archer's 250th. That last quarter was sensational! Think that was the game when McKernan rucked his own ball from the square, sprinted away & goaled in about 15 seconds.

Darryn F****** Cresswell staging for a free kick against Winnie Abrahams in the goalsquare in the last 20 seconds of a game at the SCG. Early 2000s, maybe 03 or 04. That was the first game of footy I took my wife to. She would be a North supporter today if not for that snot nosed tossbag

1996 grand final, in standing room underneath the Great Southern stand.

Once of the most bizarre was seeing Longmire slide through the SCG mud on a filthy wet day. He slid 20m+ (not exaggerating!) right through the centre square.

Edit: Winnie's mark at Manuka! Best mark I have ever seen in person.

It was Baker that got Walls that day. Baker was steaming out from full back and Walls took a mark and turned to play on and Baker........Splat. Beautiful. No wonder he hates us.

Yep, I was there too... trying to rope in a couple of Brits to become North supporters whilst my Swans supporting gf at the time tried the opposite.

Looked bad at three quarter time. End result, two new fans.

Was also at the second game you mentioned too, was 2002 from memory. Ended up sleeping on the couch for hurling a tirade of abuse at the Swans when they had their victory lap and I had middle fingers flying everywhere.

Why did women invent sleeping on the couch?

Anyway, hope to see a win this year at the SCG... got the new girl on North, but she hasn't really felt the winning culture and I need to give her a reason to love North that isn't Josh Gibson (Spitz is a chance at her affections).

Fair enough. I do remember that Walls also got cleaned up.

Surely this now raises Snake Baker to god like status?

WHOA!

A heavy serendipity/deja vous event just occurred!

A bloke having a beer here with me now, just happened to look at the screen when I was typing that last post and informed me that he was Snake Bakers nephew.

I have finally found the great man.

Snake is alive and well and currently living in Albury. He still loves North.

Linnaeus, I am almost certain that Keka got another one that day. I was very young so it is hard for me to remember.

Was it Adrian Gallagher?

96 Prelim against the Bears, their last match under that name.

2000 against the Lions when we were up by about 40 points at 3/4 time and if the siren didn't go just before Luke Power was about to get his boot to the ball for a goal, we would have ended up losing.

That horrible day in 2001 against Essendon.

Optus Oval 2002 against Port which put our winning streak to 9-0 against them and Anthony Stevens kicking one of the goals of the year.

The 124 point against the scum in 2003 is still a beautiful thing when I look back on it.

Our last win against Adelaide in 2004 when the Duck was playing for them.

Thommo's extension of the dukes in that lucky escape against Collingwood in 2005.

That putrid match in the 2007 Prelim in Adelaide that was Arch's final match, likewise the Round 22 match the following year against the same opponent in Shagger's 300th.

Robbie Tarrant managing to play a game of Aussie Rules Football in the 2008 Intra-Club.

The 19 men draw against the ugly ducklings in 2008.

The Johnson miss after the siren in the same year.

The unearthing of Ziebell against Carlton in the NAB Cup and Simmo's last match against the same scum of a club in 2009.

While many of us were there, Id imagine many of us left just prior :sheepish look face thingy:

That is actually one game that I can't blame people for leaving early. It was one of the worst games of footy I've ever seen and was absolutely disgusted by our efforts in a match that was crucial to our finals position.

Those last five minutes were pure hotness, but it was a horrible match other than that.
