so does anyone have any ideas for what should be in the new afl games

*firslty,i think all the stadiums should be included and accurately depicted

*hopefully the players will look better than their afl 98,99 conterparts and their necks will at least look like they are
properly attached to their heads

*what about uneven when the umpire bounces the ball........it happens in real life

*the ability to create a player.....and have them get better or worse as the season....or his career progresses

thats all i can think of at the moment, if anyone has anything else they would like to add, go right ahead:)

I would like it to rain during some matches. The game could start fine, and the ball could be easy to controll, then it could rain during the game, and the footy would become slippery, making it hard for both sides to use the footy properly.

I would also like it if the computer could kick for goal properly. In AFL 99, the computer often kicks scores like three goals, twenty four behinds. I hate that in a big way.

oh,another thing......whose going to commentate, now the 7 wont be doing the footy next year then that pretty much rules bruce out
so will they go for eddie......id also like to see steven quartermain as the other commentator,go for the 2 respective free to air channels main commentators, thats if they use 2 commentators, other sports games like nhl 2001 use one plus a special comments man
so who should they go with for special comments?

I would like:
- All the AFL grounds including York Park and Bruce Stadium
- All AFL Players including the rookie list players
- All players must look like their real life clones, play like their clones etc (similar to how NBA Live series players look EXACTLY like their real life counterparts)
- Skill level must change with players (ie. Dew can kick it longer than most players, LIbba is slow, Dean Wallis cant kick, Brent Grgic cant do anything etc)
- A PROPER AI engine which makes it difficult to win
- 3DFX Graphics accuratly depicted (chunks of turf sometimes go missing, muddy middle after it starts raining)
- Full injury options in which players can miss up to a year with a medial ligament, or 1 week with a miagraine (and all the others in between)
- Players that go into games around 75% fit have more chance of getting injured

On the management side i would like:
- All AFL Players, including rookie listed players
- A career option of 12 years as coach and possibility of getting sacked if your team goes crap
- Fully operational trade table with smart AI trades (like you cant trade Mcleod, Riccuito and Goodwin for Lyle, Steinberner and Kouloriotis).
- A fully operational draft imploying real players from other leagues, and made up names as the years go on
- A trade week, in which it takes time to organise trades, some times the AI wont agree with a trade or take its time agreeing.
- Players can crack the fruit and leave the club if they dont get enough games, retire, ask for trade etc.
- Star players at the start of the 'career' arent necessarily star players at the end, they can go crap, and the crap ones can become star players
- Boom recruits fail to live up to expectations

Possible option of just being one player (instead of playing as the team you play as one player) where you can get drafted, you play in the reserves until you play well enough to get a game in the seniors, and if you dont live up to expectations you get delisted, or you become a star player and every team wants to get you (in which you can choose to stay loyal or be a traitor and follow the money) or you can be traded and have no choice in where you get put or traded by.

All of that is most likely a pipe dream...but i would love a AFL game similar to the NBA Live series, except with all the management options of say Championship Manager. All a pipe dream i know but wouldnt it be awesome

The ability to create players with absolutely any name, number, nationality, height, weight, appearance, and skill level. Ability to alter existing players to reflect real life changes, such as number change, position change, or improvement/slump.

Design your own AFL club, with its own guernsey design. Forlorn Fitzroy fans with good Photoshop skills can recreate the old FFC jumpers and it'll be like 1996 never happened.

The ability to play in any type of weather, on any AFL venue past or present, with any type of officiating (i.e. most fouls called or no fouls called). Have computer-controlled variables of all these things during seasonal play.

Progressive award competitions throughout the season, which culminate in awarding a Brownlow medalist, a John Coleman medalist, etc..

Realistic crowds, that are louder and rowdier when you are winning and your team is on a roll and leave at 3 quarter time when you are getting waxed. Have crowds get progressively smaller for lousy teams. Reproduce all of the club chants, like "PORT POWER", "NORTH MEL-BOURNE" or "HAW-THORN". Have various crowd taunts and chants, like "BALLLL!" and booing sounds. Also, reproduce the club songs, and play them when appropriate, and of course, play the winner's when the final siren sounds.

The NHL and Madden series do all of these types of things right down to the very last detail; I do not see why it wouldn't be possible in an AFL game.

All excellent ideas! Maybe we should send them to Acclaim to show what footy fans REALLY want in a game.

My wishes include:
- Biffo option - like the hard tackle button in FIFA, you can do a head high tackle or something. Occasionally it will come off and you get the ball, but sometimes you will be reported and a fight will start!

- Every stadium, including bodgy turf at Colonial.

- Different sized crowds depends on the game, ie the MCG isn't full for Hawthorn v Port.

- Crowd chants when your team kicks a goal, cries of ball, crowd goes sick when you take a speccy, boos free kicks. Crowd is louder for interstate teams at home.

- Night games, wet weather.

- Banana and torpedo kicks possible from set shots. You could hold down one of the top buttons on the PSX when you had taken a mark and then you can do one of these kicks. However they don't come off very often.

- Players move from their positions, ie the wings don't just sit there the whole game like AFL 98 and 99.

- Injured players get taken off on the NRMA cart.

- Player who is reported is booed the rest of the game.

- Banners before the game.

- Full stats of all players, including pop ups during shots for goal and stats during the game (ie inside 50's, free kicks)

- Brownlow medal, All Australian and B&F awards.

- Can choose certain set plays for kick outs (ie like FIFA, each button kicks to a certain player)

For the management game:

- Media involved, you are asked questions and have to respond, how you respond affects the game. For example, if you are asked about the poor form of a player and you slag him off, he loses confidence.

- Players can have fights with the coach or each other.

- Players can receive illegal payments under the salary cap, however the AFL may catch you and fine you.

- Players can take drugs at the risk of been suspended.

- Players can be tagged.

- Choose the kickout and kickin strategy (zone of huddle).

- Automatic moves before the game (ie swap ruckmen at 20 min mark of each quarter)

- Tribunal hearings, where you instruct the player how to plea.

- Able to poach assistant coaches and fitness staff from other clubs.

- Training methods affect the game, ie train too hard and you get more injuries.

- Board and supporters tell you how you are doing

- Able to negotiate deals with the AFL regarding the draw etc.

That's all I can think of for the moment, but there is so much scope for these games, I really hope Acclaim put the effort in.

I thought we wanted this as life like as possible;) :D :D

How about a salary cap like in NFL, and stats that keep track of no. of games players have played. This could be set to their current no. and when you play them, it goes up. And then they could have banners for milestone games.

I don't know, everything has been pretty much mentioned already, good work team!!

We want it to be realistic!!

I'd just like to see a DECENT AFL game. Im still playing Aussie Rules on the Nintendo!!

new game

and not just AFL games...you should be able to go to your VFL game and watch the 2's play. It would be good to get players back into form like what Collingwood did with Scott Burns.

Ummm... i think Acclaim has already made the game, called Kevin Sheedy 2002. Also its nothing like AFL 98 or 99, u cant actually play it.. (DABNIT) but its a simulator/manager game, like the soccer ones (oh well) so yeah...

they are producing a seperate game to the coaching one also

Like the "Madden" series, I reckon it'd be great if it had retrospective "champion" teams. Like for instance, premiership teams from the past, and even clubs' "Team of the Century".

It'd also be great if you could make your own team using players from any team in the league.

Apart from that, making the game hard to win, along with more realistic game-play would be great too!

oh okay, sorry my mistake..

well i reckon it should be more like NBA2001
better graphics, more realistic
have franchise
create player
grounds
calender
stats
most goals, games, mins per game etc.

yepp...

if its anything like nbalive2001... i'll be happy...

its the only pc sports sim i play religiously, so the only one i can compare to...

The only feature I want is the one where you can make up your own players (eg: NBA live2001...)

That would be mad also like GOALden Hawks said better crowd effects would be handy

You wonder how most games get released...does anyone test them? I have played most sim sport games of most sports and time and time again i find faults and things that should be improved and things that shouldnt happen. I wonder if they have ppl testing these games and if they do have people testing them there not very good and should be fired.

Sorry about that, just a little frustration from all the years of faults in games. Anyway i think we are asking a bit much from the new game, i just hope its better than AFL 99, what a shocker.

I think it wont be that good, we only just hear the news about the game and its due for release mid November which just happens to be my birthday (nov 15th :D). It happened so very quickly that there cant be that much time spent on making it.
