If North are so dumb.......

We Got D-Mac - very few people have thought that was a dud move

We got Hay - While we probably paid over the top it was a position that we seriously sucked at so, while expensive, it was necessary.

Mark Powell - Pick 28 in the 2001 draft 190cm possible KPP defender - was ok in 2003 but done not a lot since - Pick 61 so I guess its just a speculator. Neither right or wrong so take it or leave it

Jade Rawlings - we get Jade and Pick 43 - for our Pick 46 - What the hell was this about. Sure you could say its insurance or suddenly he will be a gun player (which is, im sorry to say, unlikely) but even though we actually moved up in trading it probably harms our credibility more than anything else

You mental short people make me laugh.

North isn't buying up for a premiership, we are making necessary changes to make sure we have a strong on-field side in 2006.

We have stacks of young kids that will be around 5-10 years, what we are lacking are senior grade players due to retirements over the last four to five years.

All I know is that the side next year will be a lot stronger without Brown at FB and without Watt at CHB. Our side this year had to play very much out of position all over the ground, Hay in particuarly will allow us to to correct that down back. Rawlings if he manages to play may free Brown to play forward, it just gives us more options with our KPPs.

Where we finish in 2006 is irrelevant, but at least we will go into 2006 knowing we will have a stronger squad that what we had in 2005.

Every game that Rawlings/Hay play is one less game that Perry/Chad Jones/Macintosh get to play. The less opportunities they get, the more likelihood they will seek opportunities elsewhere in future seasons.

they got hawthorn no where and i doubt they'll get the roos any higher.

I guess the roos cant afford to bottom out.

But he is still crap.

You are paying him.Maybe not all but you are still paying.

by the way that was a good deal Hay wasn't Thompson cost to much as well.
he had a very avg year it's been over hyped getting Hay shows how much Laidly is kidding him self,he is setting the club up for a trouble.

You have to sooner or later the AFL have made sure every team will have a chance at top spot and spoonsville.

They just have to hope they don't go broke when they are down.

I think North are very smart. Bulldogs are just so stupid, they will be paying most of his salary cos they wanted to get rid of him. I really believe Jade's heart was never with the dogs cos he wanted to go to North in the first place. This guy is gonna have heart now watch him play like he did at the Hawks. 2006 he will be playing beside his brother and at the club he wanted to be traded to first time round.

I love the way Carlton people are giving us advice on drafting (HINT - if you don't cheat on the salary cap, you get to keep high picks!) and going broke (For sale - one stand at Princes Park)

cant say I hate North as a team but certainly leading to disliking the supporters, get some perspective - when you were playing Hawthorn in the last 3 years did you ever feel concerned that our full back would tear the game apart and squash your forward - NO.

Good luck with Hay, you have all overated thompsons performances this year so perhaps Hay will get the same generous attitude from you lot.

How many games did you win this year by the skin of your teeth? 3 or 4 I think wasnt it? We'll see if the luck falls your way again next year - unlikely. It will be a shame if you really hit rock bottom as soon as next year, may take two years but when it happens I expect it to be far more damaging to your club than it has been to ours, and its been pretty bloody horrendous whats happened to us.

Most people don't realise how good Thommo actually was earlier in the year when he was playing at CHF. It wasn't until he started kicking goals at FF that anyone really noticed how well he was actually playing.

But you have a point. I do think North supporters are generally quite supportive of their players, and not many have received the 'bronx cheers' from our lot over the years. Well noted!

good luck roos, u guys will need it. ur recruiting like your one step away from the flag. there is no hope, your team is very boring 2 watch and i hope u go no where. 2 WIN PREMIERHSIPS U NEED 2 BUILD FROM THE BASE UP!!!

Jade Rawlings is a backman. His strength was playing that loose, 3rd man up role. He has great hands and is very courageous. Thats the up side.

He has poor knees, and turns it over by foot often. Set shots for goal were always a flip-of-the-coin, even if dead in front. Doggies supporters now know this.

He had ONE very good year when he had to go forward because we had no one else. This was the year his ego and asking price went up.
HFC said no, Doggies said yes, thanks for coming.

Jon Hay, also had one very good year (2001). He turns the ball over more often than most HFC players, often creating gimmes for the opposition. He can not kick. Scary fact, but true.
Has also had significant problems with taking too many caffeine tablets, resulting in lack of sleep. To overcome this, he takes sleeping tablets which resulted in him being suspended by the club for turning up at training as a space cadet.

Rawlings, I wish him well, but I think his time has past. Doggies clearly think so too. Jon Hay is only 26 and is fit. If the Kangas can stop his brain fades during matches and teach him to kick, he might be OK. He hasnt been OK for the last 4 years.
I go to most HFC games. Neither of these guys will bring a flag to NMFC. Sorry.

cracker point FLUKY LUKE, kangas can continue 2 buy other teams discards and it will hurt them in the long-term. LONG- TERM SUCCESS FOR THE ROOS IN VERY MINIMAL.

Further more, J Hay played 20 games in 2005, for just 71 kicks.
He ranked 24th at HFC for kicks.

Brad Sewell, who is a run with player and has played just 18 career games, 12 this year, had 76 kicks.

Hay ranked 17th for overall posessions in 2005 which was supposedly one of his better years.

Yep, that was the recruiting coup of the century Kangas.

Why laugh. You have Hawthorns spine from a couple of years ago.

Mate Jade Rawlings had one good year. His legs are shot and he played out the bulk of the season in the VFL. What makes you think Laidley or the Roos are going to turn him around.

From a couple of years ago? You mean 5 years ago.

Well brains we finished 5th this year so with a key defender who is half decent I think that can get us top 4. By the way how did Collingwood go this year awesome team bright future!!

Actually you finished 7th.

DaSawx said:
what happens when you come 4th - 7th for the next couple of years, all the while Archer, Harvey, Simpson, Thompson, Hay, Rawlings all get old or retire, and your draft picks, whenever you have them are 12-16? You will be where we are right now, bottom 4

Couldn't agree more. The opportunity cost of trading for older players is the recruitment of young players, that is, whilst these guys might provide you with 5 years of decent service, the kids you are missing out on could provide you with 10-12 years of absolute service. Come to think of it, other than Wells, what good young kids does Northorn have coming through?

It's amazing what morons a flag brings out, I dont' know weather the smell is mothballs or sh1t but it's coming from your mouth.
We desperately needed a fullback, Hay was the only one on offer and we got him, Rawling is costing us SFA of $600k and he is at the Club he wanted to be at in the first place - time will tell.
As far as being boring I guess you know what your talking about first hand, either hand I'd guess.
I can't believe a club that gets an extra 600 odd k to help cover costs of living in Sydney hopes another club goes bad, you f *ckwit.
If the Swans ever bottom out (which we know the AFL will never let happen) it will be like rats off a sinking ship, back to the Rugby for the mothballers.

Can someone explain to me how the roos picked up Rawlings and pick 43 all for the low price of pick 46? Why do they want to get rid of him so badly? And are they not losing out in this deal?

Thompson, Rawlings and Hay played a big part in getting Hawthorn to within 2 kicks of a GF in 2001. If not for Darren Goldspink we probably would have beaten Essendon and made a GF.... and been duly flogged by the Lions.
These boys can play, North should do OK.
