If you could get rid of one rule what would it be and why?

The ability for the Dogs to lose the game. Replaced by a rule where the umps can make it up so they can get the win.

Wasn't the 2016 season enough? You do realize that without the umps the Dogs would have finished last with an 0-22 record and a percentage of 0%.

The 50m penalty for minor infringements like encroaching on the 10m protected zone - if it was only a 15m penalty it would cause a lot less angst.

Not rrally a "rule" bit Id go with a 34 round (or whatever) season.

Everyone plays home and away.

Tinker with interchange/no. Of players/game length afterwards.

*Phil Davis actually said he liked the idea of a 34 game season coz he just loves playing footy... would be workable i think.

You would need to increase lists to 60.

In the SANFL they have had a rule where the last team to kick or handball the ball as it crosses the line the opposition gets a free. The games Ive seen it seems to work and the players keep the ball in.

If the ball is in dispute/punched over/umpires unsure its a throw in.

Not sure if the rule is inside attacking 50m?

But wouldnt mind that being trialled.

Id get rid of that 50m penalty for coming into the "protected zone"

Also make 50m penalties 25m penalties. 50m is a huge gift.

Contact below the knees.

No 3rd man up is also a stupid rule they've brought in.

Contact below the knees rule.
There is no other correct answer.
Couldn't agree more! Was brought in after one player received one bad injury from 150yrs...further more, Thomas slid in with feet first, you could possibly keep that but anyone going head/hand first must be allowed and rewarded....cannot stand this rule!

No prior!!!!

If you get possession of the ball, either hand ball it or kick it, other wise it's incorrect disposal.

If you get tackled and you don't dispose of it correctly, then you should be penalised. If you feel you are about to get tackled, don't take possession, tap it on or get rid of it as quick as a flash... You take possession, then you are responsible to be able to dispose of the ball correctly!

This way that anomaly when a player accepts a tackle and the umpire has no choice but to assess it as no prior, is removed from the game

if You kick backwards inside your defensive 50 or Into you’re defensive 50 it’s play on ...no mark allowed

Encourage one on one contests up the field and encourages the ball to move forward

Pay a free against the tackler for dragging the ball back in under the player with the ball
100%, one of the very few things that truly angers me in the modern game. I’m about over blatant throws and incorrect disposals getting ignored but if some poor bastard dares to actually win the ground ball, some squib comes in second and lays on him, drags it in and puts his free hand up once it’s squashed under there. Should be a free kick against and it will actually reward the player who’s first to the ball.

Wouldn’t that reward zoning and even more congestion?

here's a new one
pay a free kick against anyone who has a hand in the air appealing for a free

also

pay a free kick against anyone who drops at the knees during a tackle

Touched behind. If it goes through the goals its a goal, regardless of if it was touched. Would also reduce number of video refs needed.

So players could use an opponent's ass to redirect the ball through the goal posts if they wanted?
