Hello one, hello all!

Guess what? I'm sick of watching the boys lose in Melbourne over and over again...so i took a job in Perth and now get to move across to sunny W.A!

Can anyone reccommend some nice and cheap areas for rentals? I'm looking at Medina at the moment all the way up along the coast to Fremantle/Kardinya area. Are there some spots to steer clear of?

Can't wait for the girlfriend (who is now a St Kilda convert! See Ross Lyon.jpg) and I to get our new memberships! And on that note - is it worth going the whole slog and getting gold memberships? I've only been to Perth a few times and never been to see the boys play a home game.

Yipppppeeeeee!:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

I wouldn't suggest living anywhere near Rockingham, or Kwinana mate, if you have a choice.
That whole area would be the Perth version of Frankston. For that matter I wouldn't go anywhere near Armadale either.

The definition of an Oxymoron:
'I'm looking at Medina... Are there some spots to steer clear of?'

Note to self: Dont look at Medina.

or breathing for that matter.
Industrial area close by.

Kardinya, Samson, White Gum Valley, Palmyra, Bicton, South Fremantle, East Fremantle even Coolbellup would be the go...but not cheap..no really cheap rents in Perth any more

Thanks fellas.....whats the pocket of area around Hamilton Hill / Palmyra / O'Connor like?

Edit: Just saw your post Lach - cheers.

Yeah ok. Bit of light industry in O'Connor but nothing to worry about. Hamilton Hill has some ok areas, Palmyra would be the one I'd look at. Closer to Freo, but will be more expensive. Have a look at White Gum Valley. I lived there for 2 years...Old area, can walk to Freo in 20 minutes.

Thanks Lach - not alot available around White Gum Valley......

What about North of the river? Maylands, Mt Lawley, Bayswater, Inglewood, Highgate?

They're all pretty good areas, maybe slightly pricey but if you can find something in any of these places definitely look into it IMO.

Those are all good, some dodgy parts but generally good. If you go bayswater try to get something closer to the Maylands side of Bayswater.
Those areas are close to some pretty cool stuff too.

Yes to all of them. Inglewood and Mt Lawley have big old houses. Bayswater ok in parts. Also North Perth is pretty good

Another nice area a bit further out is Guildford and Woodbridge. Lived there for 2 years also. It's North East but on a train line, but well away from Freo

Love guildford, but don't think I could put up with planes fling over every 10 mins.

Believe me it takes about 2 weeks and then you don't even notice it.

I lived behind the Woodbridge Hotel on the Helena River. Had a frght train go past at 2 every morning and a Singapore Airlines flight just after. I found myself quite liking it

I live semi rural now, and sometimes i miss the noises of Woodbridge

now that's hardcore moving stars to follow your footy team!

I'm in Perth a couple of weeks now and am I'm in Beeliar ( 10 min south of Freo), area is pretty new, some suburbs around are success, atwell, spearwood, yangebup which seem ok.

you definitely get used to it.

OP, whats your definition of Cheap? 3 x 1 renovated 1960's place in Kardinya would fetch $400 a week. Pretty similar in Palmyra. If you want nicer, look in Melville. Ham Hill is good too. I'd go Palmyra over them though.

I do believe the north of the river areas may have you in Chardonnay country.

Highgate is awesome, lived there for the last 5 years until recently. Great pubs, cafes, the best book/DVD/ store in the world "Planet". RTR FM, the Scotto, The Astor. A small walk into Northbridge with it's 100's of Asian restaurants. It's all win!

:thumbsu: Nice area that part of Beaufort St. Oxford St is nice too.

I lived in MtLawley for 8 years (before moving to Sydney 5 years ago). Loved this area, would love to move back there, Planet does Rock.

On a practical side look where your working and then work out how easy it is to get there. If your working North of the river don't live south of the river and visa-versa.

I should also be moving back to Perth by the end of the year. :D

Being able to watch Freo play on TV will be such a novelty.

^^^ Let's not open this can O' worms eh? :o

I've loved NOR all my life so me & my monocle collection would prefer to avoid this scrap over stereotypes with the likes of you southie scum. :)
but it is oh so fun...
haha

yeah, i really like the Maylands area too. Mt Lawley is nice. but yeah, prices start to head up quickly.

haha, yeah i work in Balcatta... live in Kardinya.... I used to work in Belmont, but it is a quicker trip to Balcatta (believe it or not)

I used to own a house in Thornlie. It's not too bad. Has some good pockets. Plenty of rentals, has a train station, Close to Roe hwy which can link u up to just about everywhere. Should be one of the cheaper options. If ur racist though it's probably not for u.
Or there's canning vale where I am now.... Which is nice and new..... Like it alot.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Very helpful indeed. Looking around the $300 mark - although it would have to be 2 x 1 or better for consideration. Rental prices are pretty similar in Melbourne....I would prefer to be south of the river, but its slim pickings...might have to take whatever i can get.

On the topic of memberships....is it worth going all out and getting full membership so i'm guarenteed a seat?
