I presume you all remember when collingwood in 1999 had pick 3 and swaped it to richmond for steve mckee and pick 7 (danny roach)

Well what a waste that was, steve mckee is no longer there and is one of the most useless footballers i have ever seen and danny roach had a sook cause AFL was to hard

If we had pavlich we would have won the flag in 2002/2003 (two years where he made All Aus) and not have had to witness tarrant kicking into the man on the mark and missing from 15 meters out

Shame collingwood selctors, Shame

Hindsight is a terrific yet very depressing thing, but please don't keep on recycling this old ****

Evidently because Freo knew Richmond was desperate for a midfielder (they took Fiora and made their intentions known) they knew Pavlich would be available with their other pick and used their priority on Hasleby to stitch him up from Richscum... If we had kept the pick they would have taken Pavlich first because we wanted talls... so we would have picked either Fiora or Hasleby... knowing us, Fiora

Now dont you feel better?

That is exactly correct.

We were also interested in Leigh Brown and Damien Cupido. I dunno if Hasleby was ranked especially highly by us, given that we had next to no rucks or talls.

Jeez.
Imagine if we had picked .......
Imagine if we picked ..... instead of .........
Get over it.
We didn't pick Pavlich.
It's as simple as that.
Lets look forward instead of BACKWARDS.

Steve McKee was one big reason we almost won a flag in 2002. Pavlich hasn't played in a winning final yet. McKee > Pavlich still at this point.

Remember that draft when J Hird was drafted some where in the 90's. A shame on collingwood and the other 14 clubs that had at least 4 picks before then and did not select J Hird.

It such and easy game to say what if ! Give the Pavlich thing a rest already.

Says who? Having taken Fraser at 1 and the whole world knowing it months in advance why wouldn’t we have been able to send the same message the Richmond did about needing a midfielder? In any case, the whole they would have taken Pavlich at 2 argument is speculative. Ignoring all that I would still much rather have had Haselby than Roach. He may be injured at present but he is a decent midfielder and we don’t have many under 30. In fact probably not one as good.

The other issue with that deal is that we took on McKee who was a dud and that decision possibly cost us the 2002 flag when we were beaten out of the middle on time on in every quarter and conceded numerous goals. McKee wasn’t good enough and we had no backup.

All in all it was probably the worst trading decision made by any club since that trade week.

OH F*&^! McKee was a dud. His high water mark is a negating of primus in the 2002 QF. That was an important game but it’s a pretty sad BEST. Swap McKee for, say, Everitt, and we quite possibly win in 2002, go into 2003 with a completely different mindset apart from a better 22 and have a better team ever since. People are too easy on our club. The fact is we should have had pick 3 AND got a quality ruckman via trades. The fact we still don’t have a single ruckman on the list that can win consistently in the ruck is a bloody joke. How long does the bleedingly obvious have to smack you in the face before someone makes it a priority?

Yeah okay, but it's true. Obviously anyone with a brain would have Pav over McKee, but then again, history shows McKee was a big figure in an almost premiership side. Pav's hasn't helped his side to a grand final, let alone a winning final yet! ;)

Or then again, Fraser could have developed into a better ruckman and Danny Roach may have played some footy, and we just might have that premiership. Too many what if's, I'm over it, especially this Pavlich thread. We may have had Fiora before Pav for all we know, another what if.

That is exactly the attitude that sees us lose these grand finals and do little to remedy the reasons why. We can't the past but FFS can we stop repeating it!

i think you have problems

If McKee was so good we wouldn't have gotten rid of him, we were damn lucky to get pick 3 for him and a dud pick for you, but we stuffed the pick up and took Fiora, luckily we have been able to get Simmonds through a trade with St.Kilda but the McKee deal should never have been done by Collingwood.
