Injury Injury Update - Rd 10

Reading an article in the west - it seems Waters is on track for a return early and there has been no setbacks in his recovery.

Looking at our draw we have a pretty soft next month then the bye - with Carlton bring the only highly rated team.

Barring new injuries of course we 'should' have everyone back ready to take on a tough month following the bye.

Ideally we'd be able to have Emac and Brown back to give Glass a few extra rests for the season.

Injury list as of May 30

Waters (elbow) 6 weeks
Brown (thumb) 3-4 weeks
Mackenzie (foot) 1 week
Butler (adductor) test

Mackenzie was required in the Collingwood game but with GC, Adelaide and Port the next 3 weeks he isn't as required. All these teams don't have 2 power forwards. Let him get it right and hopefully he is back in a couple of weeks.

No wonder our defence hasn't been doing so well, 4 out of a possible 6 of our starting defenders are out.

Waters Mckenzie Glass
Hurn Brown Butler

Looks pretty bloody experienced compared to

Smith Glass A selwood
Sheppard Schofield Hurn

And this puts our recent performances into perspective. The outs include a strong leader in Waters who for his leadership alone is missed in a young team.

Our development is very good, as is our depth and competition for positions.

JON played last week in the Foxtel Cup up in Darwin against the NT Thunder - don't know how he went as I only watched the last quarter and was almost unsighted. First game back so should be better this week.

Going by Worsfolds interview today, it sounds like Butler could play if we really wanted him but we're going to be cautious because it's Butler. He's moving well apparently, which is a good sign.

Likewise, Gaff is moving well but I got the impression he wouldn't come into the side. Might even miss a week of WAFL but that would be it.

I'm worried about Nick Nat's shoulder. After reading through Freo's thread on Fyfe's shoulder issues, and thinking back to Hunter's inability to lift his arms up, I'm scared that NN may never reach his potential because of this.

Does anyone know more about it? Is it as bad as Fyfe's?
Should we cotton wool him as soon as Lycett is ready to come in??

Our two KP backs restricted the Pies KP forwards to 3 goals didn't they?

So not having Brown and Emac wasn't why we lost that one.

Agree Butler and Waters are very good players, experienced and know what to do and when to do it.

On the possitive A Selwood isn't playing midfield ;) and Smith and Sheppard are getting experience.

Hopefully later in the year we have our best back six playing come finals if we make it.

A very important question. What I have read is that Nic isn't doing more damage but there is a risk he may. He is holding off for surgery at seasons end. I like the idea of early surgery so he can do a full preseason, but the prospect of finals is a powerful motivator.

give him the surgery now i say not worth the risk. We still have cox, lynch and lycett who can ruck.

Went and had a look at the boys train today. Only a small squad given the WAFL games today. Mackenzie, Brown, Waters, Butler all training with the main group, the exercises were not full contact so not sure if Brown and Waters would have been involved in those. No Kerr or Shuey. All the old heads having a light session as per usual on a Monday.

well their goes the midfield talent:(

I also forgot to mention Gaff was doing a fitness test before the rest of the team came out, looked pretty good, but didn't look like he was being pushed 100%.

Be nice to get Emac Butler Kerr Gaff into the team. Bring some class and footskills we were lacking against GC/Coll.
