Dark Sharks incessant whinging about Fatanui's TOG has finally paid off.

West Coast coach Adam Simpson admits Eagles’ desperate for win to keep season alive

West Coast are 16th on the ladder and only the winless Fremantle and Adelaide are below them. The Dockers and Crows face off on Sunday.
When asked if the season was on the line this weekend, Simpson didn’t shirk the game’s importance.
“Probably. If we continue to lose there will be a point where we can’t claw our way back,” he said.
“That’s in front of us. Pressure is a privilege. We need to own it and we need to embrace it.”
West Coast made four changes for the second successive week, dropping veteran Lewis Jetta and ruckman Tom Hickey, Will Schofield is suspended while Jarrod Brander injured his hip.
Jeremy McGovern will return from an ankle injury while Oscar Allen, Jake Waterman and Jackson Nelson were recalled.
Jetta’s omission comes after his ability to find the ball and hit targets have fallen away. Simpson said the veteran wasn’t shocked.
“He hasn’t been in great form,” he said.
“That happens sometimes to good players. He’s got to get a bit of touch, get a bit of fitness. He’ll be back. He agreed.
“I think you get to a point when you’ve got some experience that you know you need a bit of a re-set. It wasn’t a surprise.
“We just want to pick a team that’s going to win. We made four changes this week, we made four last week. That’s not normally us.
Shannon Hurn (left) and Lewis Jetta (right) of the Eagles are seen after losing the Round 3 AFL match between the Brisbane Lions and the West Coast Eagles at The Gabba in Brisbane.

“We’re still trying to find the best mix for our side at the moment. We’re not quite there obviously. When you don’t perform on field, you need to make some changes with personnel and system.”
Simpson said captain Luke Shuey would spend more time on the field after battling with soreness last week.
Nic Naitanui is also preparing for an increase in game time and Simpson said that was one of the reasons Hickey lost his position in the team.
“Hickey was in 16 ruck contests last week. He didn’t go forward,” Simpson said.
“We need to keep putting a bit work into Oscar to get that right. If that doesn’t work we’ll keep exploring other options.
“Nic will probably play a few more minutes this week. He’s got to the point where he can handle a few more minutes. That means Oscar is more of an option.”

That's something which has annoyed me for a while actually, the fact we don't send our 2nd rucks/resting ruck forward anymore.

Back when the Cox/Naitanui combo rolled it was a great success. Naitanui kicked 18 goals in 2011 and 24 in 2012. Cox kicked 20 and 28.

Also the pairing of Naitanui/Sinclair at times worked well in 2015 with Nic kicking 17 goals. Sinclair kicked 13.

These days it just doesn't happen. Naitanui NEVER rests forward. And our 2nd ruck sits on the pine like an idiot. It's a waste of Oscar's talents.

Exactly, it drives me nuts. Our best configuration is 2 key forwards, a resting ruck and the rest smalls.

Naitanui is actually good in the forward line. Just park him down there and let him scare oppo defenders, he'd hardly have to run or jump on people's heads. Christ, he's even a better crumber than any of our small forwards bar Rioli.

I’d like to see stats from all teams re: healthy players who have spent less than 50% game time on field. Feels ludicrous to waste a player

Oscar is wasted in the ruck.
Not bringing in Williams this week instead of Allen is just crazy. Surely you learn from your mistakes and change tact.

West Coast (77) v Sydney (43)

Contrary to popular opinion, the Eagles can win games of footy, if you organise them the right opponent, a bit like Anthony Mundine’s boxing career.

This was the win the Eagles needed to briefly paper over the cracks. Against an injury plagued, undersized, and not very good Swans outfit, West Coast had periods where they looked like a fully functioning AFL side.

It’s hard to know how much faith to put into this performance, Sydney went into this without any ruckmen and it showed.

The Eagles of previous years would have won by a lot more, but at the moment they just need the four points and aren’t worrying about style points.

Swans fans, so used to consistency and high levels of effort, would be feeling pretty flat at the moment.

It’s the old South Melbourne fans I feel sorry for. Their team sucks and their stuck on the plague-riddled, prison hulk that is Victoria.

Yes, in previous years we might have won by more because the game would be 16 mins + time on longer!

Injury report:

- Shuey (low grade hamstring strain) to miss this week, could be back for the derby
- Jones probably to miss two weeks
- Hutching 2-3 weeks away
- Brander back in the selection mix for game against Adelaide
- Nothing on Cameron, but have heard he is in the selection mix from variety of sources

Shuey will surely miss 2-3

The 30-year-old will miss the upcoming clash with Adelaide at the Gabba before the Eagles return to Perth from their Queensland hub, but could be back in time for the Fremantle clash on July 19 at Optus Stadium.

“It’s ended up being a low-grade hamstring strain and he’s pulled up really well,” General Manager – Football Craig Vozzo told westcoasteagles.com.au.

“Hasn’t got a lot of awareness on testing and even in some strides that he has done so far this week, so we think it’s probably a one-to-two week injury, and we’re hoping one, and we’ll see how the next week-and-a-half pans out.”

yep. I hate this "1 week hamstring" sh*t. I.e. Fyfe. There is no 1-2 week hamstring. If it's 1-2 weeks you havent torn a hamstring, you've got a cramp.

I agree with you, but he is fronting media now, and was talking about coming back for the derby. Personally I'd rather him sit it out.

From the tweet, it sounds more like "hamstring awareness" rather than a strain.

I guess once upon a time people would only come off of it was a proper tear and would play through the ‘awareness’. Probably learned it will lead to bigger problems if they don’t rest it though
