From that ABC analysis:

Correct.

But according to way too many West Coast fans (I don't care about nuffies who support other clubs), he's fat, lazy, doesn't mark the ball enough etc etc etc

Ugh.
The counter argument to that, is when nic Nat has gone done with his knees, we've been forced to find a solid ruckman who negates the opposition's taps and play more defensive stoppage setups. Midfield has arguably performed better overall in his absence.

This is not to say that Nic is the problem. Moreso that the midfield seems to rely too much on him winning all the time, which is not realistic.

We've been banging on about the midfield since forever. Quality on paper with multiple All-Australians, Club Champions, a Norm Smith and the most clutch goal ever, but they don't do enough of the tough stuff.

Nic Nat's been forced to be a ruckman and an inside bull because no one else is doing it.

Momentum swung for us later in the Tigers match because Yeo had something like 6 or 7 clearances in the last quarter.

Yeo didn't fire at all last week and we were soundly beaten.

Sheed, Redden, Kelly and Shuey need to pick up the slack in that regard.

Sheed and redden seemed to spend very little time in the middle against the Dogs just from watching. Would be interested to see their CBA stats.

Yeo was rested for most of the third quarter and then spent about 80% of the last on the ground. Was a pre- conceived tactic.

To be completely honest. The only real way we will see a seismic shift in out midfield incompetence is when natanui retires. Then we cant rely on his silver service...midfielders will actually need to win a ******* hard ball.
This is what happened when he did his knees, our midfield had to adapt. Managed to win a flag with two B grade rucks against two of the best in the league (Gawn and Grundy).

Time for some of these boys to earn their big pay cheques methinks.

AFL Rich List 50-1: West Coast’s Jeremy McGovern leads five teammates in highest paid figures

West Coast are kings of the big game, according to new AFL rich list figures, with the club keeping a whopping six players on their books on more than $750,000 per year.

The Eagles lead all clubs in today’s stunning Rich List release, with a host of big names making the top 50.

SEE THE FULL 50-1 AFL RICH LIST BELOW

While West Coast have six players inside the top 50, Sydney, Collingwood, GWS, the Western Bulldogs, Melbourne, Brisbane and Hawthorn all have four.

Richmond, Geelong and Carlton each have three while North Melbourne are the only club without a single player inside the top 50 highest paid.

Eagle Jeremy McGovern is the highest paid of his teammates, earning a reported $1.2 million per season, and sits as the second highest paid player in the game.

Also in the top 50 are skipper Luke Shuey, midfielders Elliot Yeo, Andrew Gaff and Tim Kelly, and forward Jack Darling.

Remarkably, GWS has four players inside the top 20 highest paid.

2. JEREMY McGOVERN (WEST COAST) $1.2-$1.25 million AGE: 29. POSITION: DEFENDER McGovern is footy’s best defender given his four All-Australian jumpers and his key role in the Eagles’ 2018 premiership triumph. He signed a six-year deal on an average of $1.2 million a season and although Eagles’ players took seven per cent pay cuts across the board for 2021, this is a year in which his pay is back-ended so he is still on $1.2 million or even more. He has battled injury niggles all year but at his best commands the skies above Perth Stadium with his superb intercept marking ability. Contracted to 2024.

26. LUKE SHUEY (WEST COAST) $775,000-$825,000 AGE: 31. POSITION: MIDFIELDER West Coast captain Shuey signed a four-year extension in 2017 through to the end of 2022 only hours after the league ticked off on 20 per cent pay rises as part of a new collective bargaining agreement. He has barely put a foot wrong since. Collected the Norm Smith Medal in the Eagles’ 2018 premiership, won a second best and fairest in 2019 and is finally on the charge back from long-running hamstring issues in the past year.

29. ANDREW GAFF (WEST COAST) $775,000-$825,000 AGE: 29. POSITION: MIDFIELDER Gaff knocked back free agency last year with a minimum of fuss when he declined to take up a get-out clause in his contract to remain with the Eagles. His deal is believed to be up to $850,000 but he and his teammates took a seven per cent pay cut across the board as part of the league’s Covid cuts. The 29-year-old missed the Eagles’ 2018 flag because of suspension but averages 20 games a season as a relentless, hard-running midfielder. Now the challenge is to hoist the premiership cup that eluded him in 2018.

30. ELLIOT YEO (WEST COAST) $775,000-$825,000 AGE: 27. POSITION: MIDFIELDER Yeo is on his way back from serious groin issues and will quickly re-establish himself as one of the league’s premier midfielders, given his awesome CV. The 27-year-old was All-Australian in 2017 and 2019 and won the club’s best-and-fairest in 2017 and 2018, completing an awesome three-season burst. The groin issues hit last year, but his five-year deal has him locked away at the Eagles until 2023.

37. JACK DARLING (WEST COAST) $750,000-$800,000
AGE: 29. POSITION: FORWARD Darling is well on his way to a 500-goal career, at times thrusting his name forward as the game’s most lethal forward but always contributing to what is now a trio of star talls alongside Oscar Allan and Josh Kennedy, who might be the best bargain in the league given he has often played for less than his true market value. Darling has seven seasons of at least 39 goals and is still only 29 years of age.

36. TIM KELLY (WEST COAST) $750,000-$800,000 AGE: 26. POSITION: MIDFIELDER

Easy to see why Scotty Lycett left.

Scott Lycett
Port Adelaide

$625,000-$675,000
Lycett cashed in on his free agency as a West Coast premiership ruckman at the end of 2018 and his best is still exceptional despite some injury issues, with the hard-tackling ruckman mid-way through a deal that is just a tick over $3 million for the life of the contract. As is so often the case players extract a premium for their free agency given their new side doesn't have to hand over a draft pick.

Maybe for Gaff, but for McGovern, he was touted as the best defender in the game
when he extended.

Was coming of a good GF and 3 AA's in a row.
He was worth that and more on the open market.
6 years though? He will be 33 or 34 by 2024

No wonder we let him go. Solid player, but not worth that money.

That's a bunch of nice guessing
