NO
Us Aussies don't have many original ideas and i would hate it if AFL left Australia. Keep it Aussie IMO

As Rob pointed out, you are asking two very different questions here.
The poll and title ask about an international competition, and the opening question of the thread asks about an international sport (well, half does, as the AFL - and this was Rob's point - is a league and not a sport despite selling itself as such).

To answer the league question, not for a long time yet. Not until there is somewhere capable, or nearly capable, of supproting a side. That may be never, or it may be 20 years away. Its unlikely to be any sooner than that.

As for the sport, yes, absolutely. In a rather small way it has already happened. The priority must be to grow the sport at amateur and so-called "grass roots" levels. And to regain ground in lost support in countries such as PNG. All reports are positive in South Africa, and there is growth in many other countries. Albeit slow growth and coming off virtually a zero base - both inevitable with what is, in global terms and money, a very minor sport without the profile free kick given to American sports through Hollywood.

I'd be curious as to see other nations attempt to play, maybe one day having a world cup of sorts.

I'm not sure I see that happening, but it'd be interesting

It would be amazing to have our finest team assembled for world cup type events where we would proceed to slaughter everyone much like the cricket

Apart from that it doesn't interest me much

I would like to see it become a bit International somewhat like the super 14's of Rugby .
There would be some damn good footy trips to South Africa ,NZ and Asia?:)

You have to be kidding if you believe that anyone overseas will ever care about Aussie rules.:o

I'd love for the sport to be played competitively overseas - so long as there were draft restrictions to keep talent at home, though I'm sure how plausible that would be. Would be a pipe dream, but to see Australia compete against other, competitive countries would be an amazing spectacle.

No. Why? Simple answer.

We have already seen what certain players do for money, Chris Judd is one who has packed his bags and moved to Carlton for $6 Million over 5 years.

Now lets talk international, if AFL were to spread to Europe and America, and it took off, they would probably pay our players at least 3x what we pay them.

Then before you know it, footy in Australia is like A-League compared to European Soccer, simply not in the same quality, because our best players are overseas.

Screw this international crap the AFL is attempting, they should be putting their heads on right and improving Aussie Rules in AUSTRALIA before sending it off half way across the world.
