You are allowed to own a Monkey as long as been through Quarantine.

 I was under the understanding that mammals were like birds and reptiles ie you can only keep what was here before the stopped live animal imports... aren't zoos and scientific institutions the only ones able to live import?

However I'm happy to be proved wrong - how cool would a pet monkey be?

I wanted one really bad, and i was gonna call him mojo. Can you own 1 in america?

Yes. You can own *almost* anything in America. People there have lions, tigers, crocodiles (which you can own here), zebras, giraffes... the only specific animal I know they can't keep there is the Komodo Dragon... but I think you can't keep any severely endangered animals, unless they're already in private captivity.

I have a Sri Lankan friend who had a pet monkey, but when his parents came here 30 years ago, he wasn't allowed to bring it with him, he never really got over having to leave it behind, poor guy. :(
