I knew of a fellow who was a mad keen Inter supporter, he would often bet against his team to create a consolation prize. He said he hardly ever bet with them. Any close game, he'd bet against them. I think he did the same with the World Cup too. It was his thing. I think it's a bit odd and I rarely gamble myself, but I don't see the big issue with it if people go down that path - Hawks are not too bad value too if you look at it with neutral eyes.

Not my cup of tea at all, but whatever - it's not going to change the outcome is it?

I've been contemplating this myself with a slick pineapple.. I'd consider it as buying a premiership if I lost the bet.

Not betting, but i put my tip at work on the hawks for a small collect tuesday, for much the same idea.. i have done it all year too, in a 50/50 game always tip against us as my sacrifice to the gods for a win.. has worked more often that not so i went with it again

Yeah that's the thing isn't it. I can, and have, done it for a regular season game, maybe even a 'lesser' final - but the Grand final ....

I hate to say it, but any time I talk serious analysis with anybody (just had a convo a few moments ago), I have to admit that Hawks are and should remain favourites. Given that the Freo hype is pulling the Hawks odds in all the time, and leaving emotion completely out of it which is hard to do at the moment, putting money on the Hawks is a smart move from an analytical neutral POV ... but still, I just couldn't do it. It's just too hard to get my head to leave my heart behind.
