I know all the talk is about who will miss for Chappy but I'm a bit worried about Lonergan. He won't go out for Chappy as we need another key forward, but he was very quiet tonight and did not give us much of a target all night. Wasn't great against St Kilda either and I wonder if there is a chance they'll bring in Hawkins. I know he has the front-running given he has played for quite a while in the senior team, but there must come a point where you say "that's not good enough" and give someone else a go. The big question is, have we reached that point? The easy decision would be to leave him in the team, but is this the best choice for the GF?

Thoughts?

Would have been nice to have had more of a look at Hawkins late in the season to be able to weight up the merits of each on current AFL form.

As it stands, we haven't had that opportunity and we must back Lonergan in to not play 2 bad games in a row and to not play a second consecutive poor game against Hawthorn (probably).

One ordinary game, means nothing. Mooney hardly fired a shot too. It was a back-flankers' game.

Must have two key position forwards. Lonergan must play. Chapman in for one of our many off the half-back line.

i THINK Lonergan will keep his place...The more i think aboiut it there is no reason to bring in Hawkins, he isnt as match fit or Versatile as Lonergan.

I got no idea who to driop for the GF team

Lonergan would only be replaced by Hawkins

Can't see it happening. So yeah, he is safe

Also said on the coverage that he is the leading Cats goal scorer in 2nd half of season

Lonergan and Mooney had probably their worst game of the year. I hope tonight was a good wakeup call because the Doggies came out with nothing to lose and they threw everything at us. Moons and Lonergan did stuff all and I have no idea why there were no crumbing forwards around to pick up all those dropped marks. Having said that, both players will be safe.

Lonergan and to a lesser degree Mooney in the crunch games are exposed for what they are, average forwards.

When Mooney doesn't have the ball served up on a silver platter and the Cats aren't completely dominant in the middle he falls down as does Lonergan. i.e Hawthorn in round 17 - the Cats won, just, but they were both terrible. And the same goes for tonight.

If the Hawks can beat the Saints, this is where they have an advantage, in the forward department. We will have to see.

Yes. Was awful but it's just one game and Mooney was not much better. May have been worse considering how much smaller his opponent was.

i feel so sorry 4 varcoe, i think he played well 2nite but i can really c him missing out =\ . the only other i could c is wojo who also had a good come back game but he has a bit more going 4 him that varc. my 2c

Bomber's already said that Varcoe is 100% going to play in the Granny.
Out Woj - in Chappy.
Lonergan will stay in, there's no way they would mess with the forward line structure by dropping him at this stage of the season.

Personally I'd be more worried about that other useless spud you've got running around at CHF. Pathetically argues with the umpire for a free kick after every contest he loses. It is embarrassing and a soure of annoyance as he does it with alarming regularity. Whilst I can recognise how important he is to your structure, boy does he look pathetic at times. Extremely overrated footballer.

Get your hand off it mate...Lonergan and Mooney both play there role perfectly. For sure, they got beaten tonight by a very good Bulldogs backline, but who cares, we won. If you look at the evidence, the dogs, a very high scoring team, sacrificed a lot of their attacking flair to sure up there backline. They gambled, they lost, move on. IF Hawthorn are going to rest on the "almost" win of Rnd 17, then knock yourself out. Its winning games of football that count and at this stage we have earnt the right to contest the Grand Final, Hawthorn still has to defeat a red-hot St Kilda, which if we are referring back to home and away games, is something they failed to do this year.

Can't wait to see Lonergan and Mooney tear it up in the grand final.

Go Cats!

just watched the 11:30 replay on fxsport1 bluenwhite & i agree that varcoe played a hell of a GG & for him to be dropped would b terrible decision. after watching it, i kind of feel that chappy might not get in again at all :S

Talking about Norm?

#### off moron. You seem to be the only one who notices all this 'arguing with the umpires after he loses a contest' rubbish. If you want your view considered at all on our board don't be calling him a useless spud because he is far from it whether you like him or not. Also people don't rate him that highly so he's not overrated either. Get lost.

I can't see Lonners being dropped, that'd be stupid to do so.

I love the Wojak, but I didn't see him really do anything. He'll make way for Chappy if he's fit.

Didn't Wojak kick a pretty decent running goal and break the lines at least a couple of times??

Rano,

What you have to consider is you guys rely heavily on Buddy and Geelong has a very strong defence. You can say Geelongs fwds like Mooney and Lonergan are average but what is the basis for that 1 bad game. Mooney has shown in the past to play well in the big games and the big one GF. I also think that the Hawthorn defence can be suspect and stats show can be scored against. Is Trent Croad your main key defender fit? hmmm this could be an issue for the Hawks as well. TB

And that's where the question mark goes to Stokes..........
Lonners and Moons will watch the tape and rest assured, won't play that bad again next week........ i hope :o
