Corey for me.

Selwood will when he gets more consistent. Can float in and out a bit, and is prone to getting the ol' Ablett 1-2 which pads your stats but does little else.

selwood is having a very good year but its hard to say he's number 2 with injury's down back.corey and jimmy have been helping out back there a bit lately and jimmy as beening doing a different role since winning the brownlow but l love the way sally goes about it

I'd say yes. Although,Bartel and Corey have had to sacrifice part of their own game this year by playing in defence because of our injuries to our backmen.

Agree with this. Currently he's probably our second midfielder but that is because you will find Corey and Bartel have spent a lot of time in defence this year, that's how good they are. Selwood and others have stepped up to spend more time on the ground and in the middle.

Yup.

It's still a no for me. Coreys run is key

I think he has become our no 2 midfielder only because the others like Bartell, Ling & Corey are getting other jobs to do. But Selwood is playing purely as a midfielder

Our mods are weird. Rocker makes a very good post and 2 of the mods come on and post the same thing. It's not contributing unless it hasn't been said guys.

They posted a similar opinion mate. That's fair enough. And I thought your post was an excellent contribution to the forum.

I would have thought that answering the poll and providing a reason was contributing, otherwise there would be only two replies in this thread.

Cheers for your contribution to the topic however :thumbsu:.

I think the official term is post whoring :)

I will not argue with the ablett 1-2, which almost every Geelong midfielder succumbs to. But inconsistency? I dont want to rely to heavily on stats here, but this year he has well and truly been the workhorse in our midfield, especially during times when Ablett has been injured, js has reached 30+ disposals in 6 straight games from round 4 to round 10, yesterday he had a very respectable 26.

I mean inconsistent as in floats in and out of games. Like he'll grab 13 touches in the first qtr, then 2 in the second. He can miss chunks of games I've noticed a bit. It's not a big issue by any means, but it's enough to stop me rating him above Corey at the moment.

I wouldn't exaggerate the breakdown to be something like 13-2, but I think the underlying point to be made is that he works his way into the game and contributes when it matters most. When the heat is on or when the game is still in the balance, more often than not I think you'll find Selwood is right up there in terms of influence.

I should preface this point by saying I'm not one for pure stats, but as far as pure disposal counts go, I'd also argue that what Selwood does with his 30 touches (even if they are accumulated in a 10-5-10-5 quarter-by-quarter manner) is more damaging than Corey's 30 touches (not underselling Smithy, who's own work is invaluable in different ways) both directly (Selwood's carrying an elite 78% efficiency) and indirectly (I remember reading a statistical breakdown highlighting how often Selwood is involved in chains of plays resulting in goals etc - he just knows how to involve himself in the play and ensure positive results more often than not).

See round 15, 2008, his last quarter vs fremantle was unstoppable, just one example, im sure theres more

The NAB Cup GF is another one. When the game was still to be won in the first half, Selwood was his most influential. And I believe that's when he won alot of his possessions - he cooled off abit in the second half (coincidently when Gaz took over), but it didn't matter then, the game was already won. That's what won him the BOG that night too.

Seems a few people are getting a tad sentimental about old favs Bartel and Corey...

Bartel yeah, just look a the MVP votes he gets that he shouldn't. But Corey is so underrated it's not funny. Sure he doesn't have the best disposal, but his gut running, clearance work and tackling is brilliant.
