But from a designers perspective, the jumper is not the best in the world.
Which are?!

For mine the beauty of the design lies in it's simplistic nature.

Take Port's migration from tacky gradients and overlays to the basic 'one colour' design that most clubs (Richmond, Essendon, North) have.

Port's is now far better - simple to design, but from a "designers perspective" it has been a complete success.

We wore it in heritage round a few years back.

Yes that is disgraceful. It looks like a drunk has taken to an Eagles jumper with a white permanent marker!

You were hardly going to get much argument here. See how you go on the main board with it. I reckon new threads should put up a subject matter attracting opinion from all angles. Welcome - and abandon all hope.

Not that stupid ... atleast this way jerks that disrespect the jumper get carded and told to GTFO.

I am not being one eyed here it is an awesome kit ... just cannot expect some of the morons on Bay 13 to get what is obvious

I can't stop... Don't...wanna...stop..., I'm...I'm... mesmerized, this has just become my favorite thread! :thumbsu:

Bluetongue you need for me to hook you up over here, she's hot I will give you that but let me introduce you to my wife, or mistress. Then I will introduce you to a couple of thier friends.

Just one thing do not plan on going back!

Now this i can agree with definitely the best jersey in the AFL, beyond that who really cares what ballgowns princesses in other sports get around in.

It's simple & dignified, always the best way to go

I must admit I like the new Port jumper a lot

The best jumper is the"Big V"

Second best is Carlton

Third best West Perth

Fourth best South Australian (original state jumper)

Fifth best Western Australia (original state jumper)

Sixth best West Torrens (extinct)
.

.

Worst is Melbourne (Can't tell if it's Blue or Black). You did fine with the lighter shade of Blue. That is, the worst of the traditional jumpers.

All of the modern jumpers are shocking ie, Crows, Eagles (every version), Docker (old one), Port (get rid of the teal (sp?), Brisbane lol,

Re , "Big V"

As a Western Australian who went to interstate games at Subiaco, it went like this.

Our guys would run out in their gold jumpers and every one clapped and carried on and you thought "These guys are good they'll give it a shake"

Then the Vic's would run out in the "Big V" and the crowd would just shut up. They looked very intimidating and made the players look even wider than they already were.

Great post, like the new Fremantle jumper as stated earlier. Did not think of the Big V guernsey.

Carlton use to have that awe about them, hopefully we will get it back soon and all can fear the jumper and premiership third quarter again!

I used to love the interstate games... geez there were some serious clashes in there at times.

There was never anything left on the ground after those matches.

I agree with you brazil. Love our design - any Australian sports fan recognises our logo as the Carlton Football Club. It's symbolic like the New York Yankees Y logo.
"Y" logo? It's not a "Y" logo.

That's what makes ours the best in the AFL -- it's that you can look at it immediately and tell what it is. It's iconic.
Not the logo on the new jumper. The old logo on the Carlton jumper reminds me of when Carlton were a good team and winning finals. It is a jumper they should still wear a few times per season because it demands respect...

Carlton72flag.jpg

I understand the logo on the new jumper is the official logo of Carlton, but it doesn't generate as much respect because it reminds me of a struggling team that hasn't won a final since 1999 and has also won three wooden spoons wearing it...

Richmond has, by far (in my opinion) the best club song of all of the AFL teams yet they have a hideous guernsey.
No it isn't the best song because it isn't personal enough. There is no mention of 'Richmond' in their club song. The best song should be a combination of tune and lyrics, but also mention the name of the club. Just like Collingwood's does! It has a good tune and lyrics, and it also mentions both Collingwood and Magpies.

This is one of the few times I will agree with you on something. A team song should contain strong references to the team it is being sung for. The Collingwood song is a strong candidate for this, as is the Carlton theme song. The Blues song is well written and meets all of your criteria easily.

Good points raised here Kiss Stephanie.

Looking at that photo you have of the new Carlton guernsey the underarm lining is darker - it is DARK navy blue...and the rest of the guernsey a teflon, plastic mid blue... the whole guernsey should be the darker colour.

I would also like to see the old guernsey logo/monogram 1922-97 rolled out for a few games per year (as worn by Nicholls in this photo)- maybe the blockbusters vs Collingwood etc - even though I am getting used to the new one as being at least 3/4 decent. Either way, Carlton still have by far the best guernsey in this league or in sport around the world.

Also like your comparison with the New York Yankees logo. Both are striking logos.:thumbsu:

When I said that Carlton's jumper was the second best, I mean the old version that's in that Premiership photo.

You should go back to that, ie, with the angles on the "C"s.

The new logo looks like a target on your players chest.

When I think of the old logo I think of John Nicholls
When I think of the new logo I think of Eddie Betts, I'm honest.

I'm just pleased we don't have a tacky gimmick on our jumper. No tacky tiger or paddle pop lion. It's simple, has history and pride.

Agree on sentiments to wear the old jumper once in a while :)

In all seriousness. .. The CFC logo is a great symbol for a club. .. even if I do prefer the previous one with the pinched Cs. ..

CarltonFC.jpg

I dont know why they got rid of the motto either...

Now that was strong... "Healthy Minds in Healthy Bodies"

I may be biased but to me the traditional Carlton jumper is the best I have ever seen. The navy and white emblem has a surreal quality about it. Cannot stand the away jumper though.

Disagree, I purchased an authentic one yesterday and can't get over how great it is.

Really good material, etherial velvet blue standout logo (number 5 on the back ;))

I love it.

Is that because I believe Collingwood is a good team? :)

Yes the Carlton song isn't too bad and it does mention their name as well which is important.

I think they should use it at least a few times per year because I think it's better than the newer jumper.

Well I actually think the premiers have the best jumper. I love black and white vertical stripes! :) The Carlton jumper is good though, although the older monogram on the front is better.

If she is a s hot as you say, what the hell are you doing in this thread??:D

I think I'll have to take up farming because that pic has given me a couple of ache'rs :o:p

I would love to see the pinched Cs return. I dislike the new logo. Too simple,bland,heartless....no history behind it. need a wreath or something around it.
