Opinion Is this rock bottom?

We will lose to WC next week by 5 goals. Then we will be back at rock bottom.
We just need to jump to a 5 goal head start first like last time to sketch it hurt just that bit more.

Every time I think we hit rock bottom, this club finds a way to dig themselves deeper in further

Thank god for golf being the most frustrating thing I do…watching this teams form resembling a volatile stocks price chart is a very close 2nd.

Scientifically speaking, nothing is ever beating the WC loss in 2023, so in that sense the thread should be locked.

But the emotional bog is pretty taxing. We've had so many thrashings that we struggle to cope with a single one now, let alone three. Or six or seven, as will be the case by the end of the year. And nor should we. The quota has been exhausted. Permanently.

Go, you team of frauds

The WC loss in 2024, followed by two 100 point thrashings?

Or rounds 1-16 2022?

Not imo. By 2024 it was obvious Clarko wasn't the same. They checked out with that loss, we could laugh bitterly and do the same.

2022 was strangely beautiful in the fact it was an absolute train wreck. We did something no one had ever done. I numbed myself very early on.

That West Coast game in 2023, I allowed myself to believe we'd win against a team with a 1-17 W-L ratio that had lost 78% of its games for the year by 40 or more points.

It was the difference of expectation-reality for me. Remember, we were competitive under Ratten. We didn't win, but we challenged teams. So for that entire period of faint promise to culminate in that pphhht against such a basket case side... it ****ed me up

I thought we hit rock bottom early 2021 but I was wrong.

A team that is full of players who can't execute basic skills, don't play as a team and can't carry out the game plan.

Is this as rock bottom as we're going to get and things will start clicking soon or is there worse to come?
Worse to come unfortunately.

We've just had our toughest block of games for the season. Despite that loss we're a game and percentage off playing finals. There is no way this is rock bottom compared to the rest of this decade.

Between now and August who do you think is capable of doing to us what Freo did? We're a genuine chance in every one of those games with Melbourne the most likely to beat us.

We're one bad GC QTR off six straight defeats.

So what you're saying is during the hardest six game block for the season we didn't have six straight defeats.

Yep.

Definitely rock bottom.

You know that's not what I am saying. It's clearly not rock bottom.
However, I am saying that our improvement has been overstated by many.
We have beaten the bottom teams and GC off a marvellously friendly draw.
Our last six weeks has been largely ordinary, capped by yesterday.

So the improvement is obviously there - we lost to all but the bottom bottom teams previous couple years.
Now we're beating teams slightly above that.

We have obviously improved. That's not the question

The question has to be is that improvement enough? Is it satisfactory to stay the course?

I have no doubt we have improved. But not by a hell of a lot.
IMO we have largely beaten the other bottom sides as they have gone backwards. Got Carlton and Port right time (both would expect to beat us now), Essendon are a basketcase at moment, and Richmond are having a horror season. Couldn't beat Eagles though.
GC was the highlight.
It is all very well to preach patience but I would contend you need to lot more signs than that after six years down bottom to really prove you are on a meaningful track to being anything more than a moderately competitive side.

Sydney game and the first 3 quarters vs Geelong where the best footy we played this year imho.
