Adelaide look inept for three quarters of football, then look a million dollars in the last quarter when its too little too late. Why didn't they play like that in the first three quarters?!?!

This happened in mid-season matches last year against West Coast, Collingwood, and I think to a lesser extent the match earlier in the season against North Melbourne.

For three quarters St Kilda killed us in the middle and got numbers to the ball. Whenever we went forward we were made to look distinctly ordinary (I thought Gehrig had a blinder!). Yet in the last suddenly we were killing them in the middle and got run into our forward line to kick easy goals.

I know it sounds like sour grapes, but I can accept losing to a better side. It's much harder to accept losing when we've clearly played well below ourselves.

A combination of Adelaides good last quarters and St Kildas abysmal last quarters.

Especially in the ruck. Adelaide were thrashed for the first quarter and a half, and had almost every tap in the last.

Kicking straight helps too.

yep same here. as soon as they kicked that first goal i just sensed that they were coming out to play. Credit to St kilda they played well, and they didnt let us play well.
I think the crows went into the game thinking they were gonna win, and in the end it costed them badly.
Our kicking at goal was terrible as well- especially Reilly's two posters.

Exactly we did not put in anywhere near 100% effort today & that is the most disappointing thing. If Bickley's 250th can't inspire the players, you wonder what goes through their heads motivation wise.

Is it just me or did you think that Stenglein was wrong match up for Milne. As soon as I saw who was manning up Milne I tought it will be a long day at the office. Fair Dinkum, I almost regreted that Crowell was not in the side.

Burton will miss a few weeks with ankle, Carey looks sus and Stevens is still troubled by that knee. I think Bode will be back next week. We MUST put in a 4 quarter effort. The funny thing is we nearly won the game and kicked 7 goals in 4th quarter, but we managed to kick only 6 games up to 3 quarter time.

Stiffy I was calling almost immediately for Stinger to be removed from Milne - just didn't have the pace. This was part of the reason we lost the game - Milne fired & Stinger didn't have his normal influence in the middle until the last quarter.

Im just wondering with our foward line injury problems at the moment that the coaching staff might rush Scott Welsh back into the side earlier than expected? We really needed a crumbing foward down there today.

I think you will find out that there is more chnce of Burns getting a run next week than there is with Welsh.

Might Stenglein have an injury problem?- certainly didnt look his best both this week and last week....

Just got back from phone dome (thank God for the #96 Light Rail). Left as soon as the siren went. I didn't want to stay for the post match as I couldn't cope with the boys being lauded as heroes, despite losing an unlosable game.
As Rowan Atkinson said (as Blackadder)
"I believe the expression rhymes with clucking bell."

I think we missed Bode today- especially in the midfield stoppages.

I don't think that was the case. Its just than not many players rocked up to get thwir hands dirty. Apart from the likes of Bickley, Torney and Goodwin, noone else had a 4 quarter effort. McLeod and Edwards had solid 2nd half and both played a blinder in the last quarter.

I thought Mattner got moved onto him at some point and Stenglein was released into half back/midfield. Or did I get this wrong? Maybe I'm confused as the two lookalike. If not, who was Mattner's opponent?

Mattner was shifted on him later in the game when the damage was already done. I thought Mattner was better on Milne than Stenglein was. Clearly you have to put your best defender on a schitzoplayer like that.

Correct Mattner was on Milne in the last quarter, with Stinger moving into the midfield. It can be damn confusing as they do look very similar!

Stiffy I don't think it is so much putting our best defender on Milne, but our best suited defender. I have no problems using Stinger as a defender, but as many great attributes he has, pace isn't one of them. Hopefully next time we use a quicker player such as Stiffy or Hart (or even Crowell).

Personally I would have started Stiffy on Milne. He has the pace and certainly has the hardness at the ball and the body. I would have Hart as a back up. Stenglein is quick but he is not quick enough.

Stenglein should have played on Harvey. I cringed when I found out that Burton was on Reiwoldt.

John**** on Milne for me; but its always easy in hindsight.

We couldve tied one hand behind Milnes back and it wouldntve made a difference today...

Pity the Birdman injured himself when he did. Apart from an early blunder he was shaping up OK and may have been a matchwinner up forward later in the game.
