Roast It's official - AFL360 hates Geelong

I think the journo's are afraid of getting burned. If they say we're done and we go on and win the flag or make the prelim then they look stupid. So most of them are sitting on the fence because it's happened before. But that doesn't mean you can't talk about games and players, or other issues. How about Jimmy Bartels amazing game in wet weather on Sunday. That deserved a few minutes.

Gerard Healy on On The Couch showed a minute of clips showing how good Bartel was in the wet.

I'm with you Blakey, and of course egg on a journo's face is known as the King syndrome. I consider many people on this board are football supporters as opposed to fanatics, the difference being an interest in other teams and the game. Even so, I like to see us featured occasionally for a few minutes, if only to confirm that the so called "experts" opinion on certain players are what we see, plus a bit of footage. Beggars belief that they would ignore any claim, including the shaping of the eight, that the Cats may have to September.

Under the radar kiddies, under the radar, just like 2011....here's hoping anyway. lol
Ah yes, let them all eat cake and fill themselves with gluttony on the others…..

Meanwhile, our pot is still slowing cooking an peaking…

Annoying yes. Few games on FTA - annoying yes.

You will hear most commentators finish their comments about Geelong with "but you would be foolish to write off the Cats this year". They know.

We are boring though. Any team that runs at 80%+ win ratio over 7.5 years is predictable. Collingwood at 62% with Eddie, Bucks, MM however is much more interesting.

Our problem is just sleepy hollow stuff over again. Meanwhile we are under the radar from where we like to prey and pounce.

This is the essence.

They are all waiting to call the fall. Only Sheahan a few weeks back dipped his toe in that "pond". King is scarred. If we drop another game there willbe a rush to be the first to call "it". Looking at the draw they may have to wait a while especially with Bews filling a big hole nicely so far and Kersten do a fair job even in the wet. If the umps had been disposed to paying a free to Geelong , Kersten would have had a couple more good leads rewarded (arms chopped).

If Geelong finish top four the discussion will turn to straight sets.

I don't tend to get too upset about where the media ranks us. Historically, we should be falling and it is just an obvious conclusion to make as you lose some champion players from your side.

I do believe they are underestimating the genuine class we have in the prime 22-28 age bracket (Motlop, Duncan, Christensen, Selwood, Hawkins, Guthrie, Varcoe, Taylor). That core is partly why we are staying strong, not just because some grizzly old veterans are using their experience to get us over the line.

At his best , he is very good. GW's written stuff can be top draw , he'd be a pretty good poster Id reckon.. sign him up , Pure_Gerard or perhaps Whatempire
Perhaps he already signed up.

SJ, didn't you once say you looked a bit like Gerard? :D

I heard a presenter on SEN say yesterday 'even Tom Hawkins must be 30'

Gee all our good players are getting old if that is the case.
Haha yeah I heard that it was Tony Schebecki..Obviously he has no clue! He was also saying the hawks must be lock for top spot on the ladder as well, obviously hasn't looked at their draw or noted their recent form... How do some of these blokes get a gig like that!

I have been surprised this year just how little AFL360 talk about our club. I was beginning to wonder if maybe it was deliberate, but given that Gerard is supposed to be a supporter I dismissed it. But tonight they went through the top 10 discussing each club but deliberately ignored Geelong. That's right, they didn't even mention us. But went on about all the other teams over two segments. I know it's a minor thing in the scheme of things, but as a footy supporter I would like some discussion of my club occasionally. But not on 360, I hear more about the Cats when Bomber coached them than the current team.

Gerard is really letting us down.
There is a positive, though.....we are flying under the radar.

Seriously, though, we aren't winning well, and at the moment our players are behaving. No news in that!

Gerard is a typical Geelong supporter. Constantly talks the team down in an attempt to gain credibility from other teams supporters.

I reckon that GW is afraid of being accused of bias so has steered too far the other way (of course Robbo has no such compunction when trying to get his Bombers off the hook!)...

There's a lot of people on this board who cry about Geelong not being spoken about enough.

I prefer quiet, respectful murmurs when my team is mentioned in any quorum.
I don't care for chest beating.
Indeed. Would take this any day over the overreaction that occurs when Richmond win 2 or 3 consecutive home and away games! Like with the crowd at KP, the Geelong footy team earn their praise.

The only attention that matters is when the umpires look at the scoreboard after the game has finished, and it shows that we have won. Everything else really is irrelevant. As you say, it's just chest beating.

I haven't watched any football shows all season and don't feel like I've missed a thing.

Correct. King is scarred. Tim Lane knows better. They are all nervous to make "THE CALL" and put their necks out. But once the cracks appear, as they have begun to, they are still cautious about their reputations. No one will make that call.

Presuming we make the finals, the questions about # of games played will come up and can we make the GF?

I was bemused when Motlop's matchwinning performance against Essendon was largely overlooked by the media.
If Cyril Rioli kicked those two goals in the same circumstances, you can bet he would have been on the front AND back pages of the Herald-Sun the next day and we would have seen replays for a week and half.

"Cyril" inexplicably even got a mention by Cometti after Motlop's first goal.
