If JPod stayed Kersten could've considered coming home (to a Freo offer). They had to let him go.

We aren't in same boat, as blokes keeping out Michie/Sheridan/Crozier aren't 32.

Let's get josh hunt too, he's a dual premiership player. Let's get Embley as well, he won a NORM SMITH!

Terry Wallace thinks its a good idea, that should be the end of argument ffs. We are not being run by Schwabb and Connolly anymore, we got to a GF with a small forward line and didn't lose because of that reason!

I like all the guys you mention, but we'd be lucky if we get much more than 30 COMBINED from them. Sign J-Pod.

Very true. We only got 27 goals from that group in 2013; injuries did play a part.

I think as long as Taberner and Clarke in particular are still given opportunities up forward throughout the season, then J-Pod would be a decent addition to our 2014 side.

As an aside I really can't stand J-Pod and I am disgusted in myself for typing the above.

These Schwabb/Connolly comparisons that are flying around about Sylvia and now Pods are ridiculous. We aren't giving up high draft picks, or any draft picks for that matter, and we have ample cap space. We haven't landed the big fish that we wanted, but that shouldn't stop Bond and co trying to fill gaps in the team.

A fit Podsiadly makes us a more dangerous team in 2014.

Let's not get too hyperbolic, unlike both players you mentioned Pods was actually still playing decent footy this year. Won't even bother going into the absurdity of comparing a KPP to a back pocket and a winger.

The selling point isn't the fact he's a premiership player, it's the fact he fills a need.

In response to the bolded; Brian Lake.

Sad to see him go.

Id always hoped that since he started later, that he could play until 35. However, as others have eluded to, if we don't start playing Vardy and Kersten forward in 2014, we could very well lose them at the end of next year which would be bad for our regeneration.

He played all over the ground this year which helps factor in the drop in goals this year. Looked like he did his knee in a game this year, it looked horrible, yet was back out 10mins later and played on. If I had to pick someone to play for next year Id take Pods every time over Gumbleton with his injury history. It really depends on how willing you are to consider potential stop gaps.

He would definately be a team player and would happily play reserves i'd imagine after where he has come from.

There just are not many 100kg marking forwards to choose from, so its not the worst idea if you were to pick him up temporarily.

This has nothing to do with Schwabb and Connolly, we NEED another key forward. No we didn't lose the GF because of the small forward line but we also didn't we it either. The lack of height down forward is a major deficiency, bloody Chris Mayne tries his guts out every week competing with guys taller than him and does a great job. He now needs to become the 3rd tall not the 2nd tall behind Pavlich.

J-Pod could realistically play for another 2-3 years. Sign him on a one year deal, a deal which costs us cash only, no draft picks just cash. It is a dead set no brainer, I struggle to understand why we wouldn't with half the other bloody posts on here are whinging about us having no key forward. Here is one gift wrapped for us to take and no one wants him.

As a comparison Stewart Dew was 29 when he was picked up by the Hawks, he won them the GF in 10 minutes of brilliance. Age is no barrier.

Freo need to sign him up....

Hell yeah on a reletively cheap 2 year deal he would be a very handy addition, not to mention he could probably show our developing kpp a thing or two... do it !

That's just being silly. This has nothing to do with schwabolly.

Pods addresses the very real need for KPF types at Freo. He'd be short term (2 years) and buy us time to develop our younger talls. Pods is the best of whats left. He's an available FA. Nothing schwabolly about that.

We still retain our draft picks for youth.

Initial thoughts were hell no... but im slowly coming around to not being shattered if we get him for 1-2 years. Especially if Pav needs to be rested at times through the season. Our depth is s**thouse / non existant, so why not.

The last quarter of the final showed what happens when you rely on a small forward line.

He's apparently a really nice fella. Could be like a Balla... hated by oppo, loved by supporters. I think he pushes and shoves and snipes too much. But if he's doing it for us I'll see it as just being aggressive and physical. ;)

My feelings are the same - if he genuinely isn't stopping the side from getting other, potentially better, players, is still fit, a decent bloke and has potential upside as a forward coach, as I'm hearing (!), why not?

Dont like this idea. He is past it, and this theme that we must get a key forward does not stack up against our performance this year. Had we not got the yips in the GF....

If we had another key forward and got the yips we could of still won.
If we had another key forward we could of performed even better this year.
That kind of thinking works both ways.

Another key forward Makes Mayne more dangerous and frees up Pav more.
Wont see defenders zoning off and taking uncontested marks.

It is the missing link.

Not convinced Pods is the answer though.
His stats this year look very average.
Lacks mobility so can easily be run off.
Think better off sticking with Keps, Hannath etc than Jpod based off this years stats.

stats arent bad from this year. 1.4 gls a game better than what we currently got, however we still got to target something else as well, which is where Gumby could come in, OR the draft.
I think we should be looking hard at Riewoldt
1st Round + 3rd Round + Michie type hard.
Then Mellington for Pears??
Take Podsi or Gumbleton (If delisted) for free
then draft a tall for either end.
To get draft picks we'd have to give up another player, 2nd round target i reckon.
Still look at Ellis in Free-Agency to

So we lose -
2nd Round equivalent Player
1st Round
3rd Round
Michie
Mellington

Gain -
Ellis
Podsi/Gumbleton
2nd Rounder
Pears
Riewoldt
Sylvia

Strengthens our immediate team, and gives Pears as Mcpharlin Replacement.
Riewodt would really help Tabs i rekon to.
Prefering gumbleton than Podsi so that it's more future based.

However this may be giving away to much for immediate needs but is still getting some youngsters, we are in the premiership window also.

What we are lacking is a big body target to kick to in the forward 50. He is just required to contest. If he takes the mark, fantastic. If he don't, Ballas and Walters will take care of it.
As good as pav is, he is not this type of FF.

Having pods will be an immediate improvement to our forward line.

Going out on a limb here -- My eyes got a little wider when I saw J-Pod would be de-listed. I'd grab him on a one-year deal. Seriously. With all due respect to Kepler Bradley -- and I met him at the GF and found him to be a very friendly guy -- J-Pod is a premiership player who knows what it takes to win and isn't afraid of the big stage. And goodness knows, he can take a mark -- something we sorely need on the forward line. Yes, Gumbleton is younger, but what's wrong with J-Pod keeping a seat warm for Matt Taberner? Yes, J-Pod is up there in footy years, but signing him would cost us only dollars and we could draft and develop a couple of key forwards.

The main reason why we need J-Pod for 1 or 2 seasons at freo.

When I watched the 2013 grand final, one of the reasons why Freo narrowly lost was the fact we lacked a premiership game breaker.

Just look at Darren Jarmans last quarter in the 1997 AFL grand final. Jarman was a player from the Hawks 1991 premiership team.

He's the kind of player you would prefer to have on your team than to play against, but I also question how much we can get out of him...

Recruit him with a 2 year contract and the added bonus of forward coach when he retires .

Pods would jump at that in a flash especially if Suma goes back to West Coast

Can't see what J-pod offers that Kepler can't do. Rucking, marking, kicking the freak goals, crashing packs. Ross even starting playing him in defence in the last preason to make him more versatile.

We would get more years out of Kepler than Pods in the long run...

To see the faces of the Geelongistan faithful when Pods and Balla high-5 after a goal celebration would be priceless.:thumbsu:
Slip Chappy in there as well and all their faces would turn purple.
