I reckon JA Can take Rocca's Spot at FF.

JA is not tall as Rocca but he is the Same Size as Fev and Pavlich and they Dominate at FF and Can kick plenty of Goals.

JA can take a Big Mark and Is very very Good Shot at Goal and can tackle very well and that means foward line Pressure. I can see JA kicking 7+ Goals if gets enough shots.

Your Thoughts?

Early days... but signs are good.

He can kick straight! Its amazing!! Im just not used to that from a Collingwood forward.

I'd be interested to hear from JAJH on where Jack actually likes playing more. He would have been learning the defence game for quite some time now including being mentored by Clement IIRC. I wonder if now that he is the great white hope in the forward line, does he see his position being more as a forward or does he think once certain players are back from injury, his spot will be as that defender.

John and I have spoken about the roles a player has at different ends of the ground on many occasions. Having been a full forward all his junior days and as any fully forward will tell you, it's instant gratification, you get a kick goal, you get rewarded, by not only your team mates but by the crowd also. However, as a defender you may stop your opponent from touching the ball but who knows about it? John had only 9 possessions in last night's game and kicked 4 goals and everyone is on his bandwagon, but would he have received the same recognition with the same amount of possesions as a backman? I think not! I'm not suggesting for one moment it has anything to do with being egotistical on John's part, it's simply a matter of personal choice if that choice was an option of playing at a preferred end of the ground.
Personally, I would love to see John continue kicking goals, he is hard at it, brings plenty of mongrel to the forward line and is a fantastic kick for goal, but by the same token I am equally happy just to see my boy on the track getting a game.

He'll add more than Rocca imo. His defensive pressure is fantastic, he seems to love being out there. Kind of like when you throw a tennis ball to a dog and the dog runs after it with enthusiasm. He seems to want the ball a heap.

Add to that he is a superb kick, which is probably the most important part of a players game.

If only he was a bit taller/bigger, he'd be THAT much more deadly in the air.

But he'll do as he is haha.

my thoughts are DONT JUMP THE GUN

I think i love him, i have never ever seen a Collingwood KP forward capable of kicking straight in my life.

Just please don't queue up to kick him when he 'underperforms' in an up-coming match.

With a smooth scone like that he should be called 'Jack High' :D

JAJH you say he played full forward all junior days...but why on the coverage of the game they were saying how he has played nothing but in the defence line his whole time as a junior?

and tell him to grow some hair...(if ur his real dad)

No , he's still more 'opportunist' than 'power'

Spot on. He is not a power forward type role. He is more MEdhurst / Rusling than Rocca.

You look at his four goals on Friday - two were from tackles, one from a snap in play, and only one from lead and mark. And even that one was from him pushing hard backward from the forward flank and taking the mark heading back to the goalsquare. His hands probably aren't strong enough to be able to outmark someone in a contest on a lead. If he is to remain a forward, he will become a mobile half-forward type rather than a Rocca-style leading full forward in my opinion.

This is stupid, JA will replace rusling or go into the backline, he wont take Roccas posi. Did you see on Friday how our team would bomb it to the forwards and half the time cloke wasnt there no one could take the big pack mark? well Rocca can. Rocca is such an influential player who takes the best defender of trav. Rocca more valuable than JA

didak --------Cloke----- Davis
Medhurst--- Rocca ----Rusling/JA

That will be our forward line in 2009

It depends certainly Nathan Brown gets alot of recognition this year. I am very exited by JA all the same.

I think i love him, i have never ever seen a Collingwood KP forward capable of kicking straight in my life.

You nor I never saw Peter McKenna who was considered by some as the best kick for goal of all time.

JA seems to play a similair role to Jarrod Molloy. (remember him). He was an enforcer in the forward line. He may not have had much of the ball but could have a big impact all the same. I was most impressed with JA's tackling and physical pressure on Friday night.

I kept saying to non-Collingwood mates that JA is a defender. After Friday, I'm not saying it anymore. He will be our FF unless Reid or Dawes come on and star in that role.

I saw McKenna play lots of times. He was an incredibly accurate shot for goal and would get most of his goals from leads, marking on his chest. Only saw him ever take one overhead mark in his whole career. For modern day comparisons think of a Ryan Lonie type player who could lead well, mark on his chest and convert 99% of the time.

Ditto. Rusling or JA for a forward line possie.

^why are we forgetting reid?
swap rocca for reid/dawes.

That will be the forward line next year, or would be this year if they were all fit.

I never subscribed to the theory Rusling and reid were in competiuon with each other two differnt players: Rus fast short leads (JA does this now), and reid long searching leads to wings and doubling back(ala cloke and rocca of his younger years).

JA isnt a replacement for rocca more rusling, reid and dawes have a monply on roccas spot and trav is a certain started every week

JA is certainly a key prospect to fill some role or other in the forward line. Whichever young lads finally make it, I'd love to see Rocca give us another year in which he could lead and teach them by example. I think the experience of playing beside him would be invaluable, and we've seen how much Cloke misses him.

JAJH, I think that in the past defenders may have had the rough end of the publicity pineapple, but that appears to be changing. With every aspect of the game now analysed and scrutinised in the media just about round the clock, I think the attention will be more evenly spread in the future. Look at the publicity that someone like Heath Shaw attracts, or as someone pointed out above, Nathan Brown.

That fact that JA is a very personable lad with what you might call "power-presence" and buckets of attitude, will mean that the camera will love him, and so will the barrackers.

Agree with both of these. He is clearly a player. Where he ends up is still very up in the air but we should be glad that he is clearly a player.

Fact is he is a good kick but atm he is getting few kicks and converting well i still don't see him have enough to make it as a foward if he starts getting a lot of attention. Of his 9 kicks 2 from defensive pressure which is superb. At least another two from being used when a defender zoned off.

Westhoff last year to this year is a perfect example of how fast a foward can go backwards once their opponent start paying them respect and not zoning of them. That said the clear thing is JA has what it takes to make it, his aggresion and kicking are superb. That said if he makes it as a third i would want it to be a third tall.

My thoughts are:
If Jack has a bad game DTM will be calling for him to be sacked
Well Do you hear me saying the Brown should be dropped after the bad game on Friday Night Then?

No I have not
