“People will say the right thing, but nobody wants their record broken. At least Jack Crisp is somebody we don’t dislike. Some players are more unpopular than others – he’s not one of them.” Brian Stynes

To the above, you think about all the players who have never put together a full season or even had to retire in their 20s. Then you have Crisp who's played 244 on the trot. Getting to 200 is already an outlier, playing over 200 without missing is like winning the lotto.
Won't relax til he's got 250, hard to get your head around that number.

Jack was asked about how to ensure he reached these milestone games - and said something about avoiding Ned Long at training.🫣

But there’s something else about this amazing player of ours - not only does he never get injured, he also never gets sick. That’s no mean feat when you have three little kids at school and day care, who between them would bring home about 100 viruses a year. Seriously - he should be studied by medical science.

that’s quite amazing, I only need to walk past a school kid at the bus stop and that’s me down for two days.

Rumour is his girls are pushing boundaries for consecutive school days attended at each grade level.

What an achievement, what a player he’s been - and he’s not even close to winding up either - he reckons he’s got 8 more years in him!

Go well this week Jack! It’s just the beginning, but enjoy this week, the record’s yours now, you’ve earned this!

Just an insane achievement. With the concussion rule etc and how quick the game is these days. To not have done some form of soft tissue injury or missed through sickness or just through bad luck had an injury. The more I think about it the more insane it is

+ going through a global pandemic without missing a game.

Here’s a fun factoid:

Jack Crisp was drafted by Brisbane with pick 40 of the 2012 rookie draft (between 2011 and 2012 seasons)

That was the draft where GWS had 11 of the top 20 picks.

Collingwood had access to Crisp, but instead picked up
  • Marley Williams with pick 35 of the rookie draft
  • Lachlan Smith with pick 17 of the rookie draft (I have zero recollection of this player!)
  • Jarrod Witts with pick 67 of the main draft - NSW scholarship and our only draftee still playing senior footy
  • Corey Gault with pick 65 of the main draft
  • Jackson Paine with pick 50 of the main draft

No disrespect to Jim Stynes whatsoever here, however even equaling the record, I consider Crisp has actually surpassed it now.

In Stynes defence, he didn't have the access to sports science and the facilities on the level that Crispy does, but he also didn't have concussion protocols. He didn't risk suspensions for simple football acts because someone's head was knocked slightly. He didn't play in an era of clubs being extra cautious of players playing with soft tissue injuries and excessive scans. He also didn't play through a global pandemic.

In the modern era, it would be significantly harder to play any significant number of consecutive games than it was during Stynes' career for those reasons.

Well done Mr Consistent! He's clearly had a lot of luck but he also does a lot of hard work and displays a lot of discipline with his body.

Could be one of those rare records that never gets beaten.

Callum Wilkie is 105 behind. He has played 139 without missing since his first game.
that's a long way off - what is that - 5 years?
It's only getting worse now too - with the suspensions etc

Meanwhile, Crispy will continue his streak beyond this. He may not stop until he retires lol
