Both he and watson look to have removed the duck / look to draw a free as their first instinct (well at least they did yesterday), as a neutral it makes it alot easier to appreciate their quality.

Not really. They play virtually the same way but haven't been getting paid free kicks. You guys just get annoyed when they get paid the free kicks whether they are there or not.

This.

Early doors Ginni was getting rewarded with free kicks - why wouldn't he do it. It stopped and he moved on.

It is not that Ginni has stopped ducking - he has moved up the ground and is playing a completely different role - a role Collingwood never gave him a shot at.

I can confirm Collingwood are both surprised at how well he is going and regret they gave him away.

Really stamped the ducking out of his game and he's become a much better player for it.

Dropped for Easter Monday last season and came back in the best form of his career. Depending on who you ask, he was close to BOG yesterday.

Turned himself from a one trick pony small forward to a hard running linkman.

A lot of my non-Hawk mates are starting to come around to Ginnivan. Wonder what the rest of BF think?
Honestly, if he didn't play the fool and draw hate for it - he'd hardly ever even be mentioned.

Really just a meh player.

He's averaging 19.5 touches and 1.2 goals a game. That's not meh for a HFF, that would be up there with the top handful.

FWIW Dylan Moore was AA in 2024 with an average of 19.5 disposals and 1.4 goals a game.

Noticed him at the game playing further higher, even more so than normal. Noticed he started down back for a bit. Which was good, didn’t really get beaten at all and his smarts and skill was damaging from defense.

Some of the tough plays he had were intense, I recall once he ran back into oncoming traffic, picked the footy up as he goes straight through someone before hitting a target, all clean in sequence.

I liked Ginnivan before it was cool, he's a "rat" type of player as Dan Gorringe would describe the archetype, but he's definitely stamped out the silly nonsense from his game, he's just entertaining to watch.

Anyone with a brain knows how good Dylan Moore is. He was an AA as a pure half forward flank which is rarely if ever seen.
But who talks about him?

Meh. No one cares about Dylan Moore. And no one would care about Ginnivan if he didn't have the hate factor.

Hawthorn seem to have heaps of these meh guys. That little Italian dwarf from Essendon, the spud with the rat tail, Watson.

They're all just meh.

You’re very clueless. Enjoy your life as a causal fan of the game pal.

Completely agree. I definitely wrote him off and hes made me eat my words. He’s been playing good footy over the last 12 months and improved his game. Hawks half fwds are great to watch

Not everybody watches other teams/their own team in depth, and that's fine. Those who do watch, understand his IQ, ability to read the play, and be in the right place at the right time.

Are they? No one was doubting his ability. He was acting like a dickhead away from the field and they'd had enough.

I'm sure the club is more than happy with Lachie Schultz, and whilst Ginni is very good at what he does, and considering the state of Collingwood's list, I wouldn't say a short arse that's slow of foot and doesn't tackle is a need for us further up the ground.

Yeh, you’re right. Collingwood are littered with an array of young talent, a likely AA, under 25 year old would be lucky to make the squad.
I never made that claim. We have many holes on our list. I love watching Ginni play, but he's not what our list needs right now.

He gave Collingwood more reasons to get rid of him then keep him.

He is playing at a club where he wants to play he clearly wasn't committed to being a Collingwood player so Collingwood wouldn't be getting the Hawthorn version.

Disagree with that. His final year at Collingwood he moved from deep forward to half forward as they stopped paying him the high contact frees and he'd become ineffective as a goal kicking deep forward and without the pace for the other half of the role - pressure.

That year was the first progression towards what he currently is. But he wasn't fit enough yet and I don't think he'd bought in - wanting to be the goal kicker still. We still picked him for the GF though. That year was a year he needed to have. He's since bought in and gotten a lot fitter and his linking play has gone through the roof - he was really slack with the ball when not kicking for goal - just doing lazy around the body kicks rather than straightening up and hitting targets. Good luck to the little ****er. He's going great and he's bloody entertaining.

Mad squib in the last 2mins

Pretty sure he just slipped over. It looked like something out of the Three Stooges though. Slips, bonks himself on the head with the football and it somehow lands in Blicavs' arms.

It was very noticeable, especially Watson who seemed to go out of his way to instigate head high contact - surprise, surprise, they're actually pretty useful footballers when they just focus on playing the ball.
