agreed.

Cotchin probably has more natural ability, but Grimes could well match his ability through a bit of hard work.

The fact that Grimes was mentoring players after 12 odd games though is outstanding.

Both future captains IMO

how yeah i forgot because all players coming in to an afl club get a crack right away... some 1st rounders dont play for years

what injuries has grimes had??

not to mention hes a year older than cotchin and has NEVER had a tag before...

as i stated before cotchin on average wouldnt play more than 70% game time...

what would grimes play??? id say around the 90%??

as ive stated once before im not taking a shot at grimes i think hes a good player i just think melb supporters make up alot of shit

cotchin finished 3rd in the rising star after not even playing the whole season, he finished ahead of players like Matthew Kreuzer, Ben McKinley & Garrick Ibbotson

last years rising star grimes didnt even receive 1 vote

this is a stupid poll because both players play different positions grimes plays the easiest position on the ground....

You know Grimes plays 90% game time and had never been tagged but have know idea what his injuries have been.

Grimes and Cotchin are equally talented. Just because Cotchin was taken higher in the draft doesnt automatically mean he has more potential. From what Ive seen they are both going to be great players for their clubs.

As for Grimes playing in an easier position- this may be true in terms of racking up soft possessions ala Joel Bowden, but Grimes has demonstrated the ability to win his own ball in contested situations as well as shut down quality established players.

And anyone that says Morton will be a better player than Grimes or Cotchin are just kidding themselves. Morton is slow and a terrible decision maker. Cotchin and Grimes are future stars of the competition.

pft he is neither of those things and has a height and athleticism that the other two don't, which will make him far more versatile and a nightmare matchup. This preseason before he got hurt you could just see him about to become really damaging, he can pay anywhere on the ground except ruck

Yes Melbourne fans talk up our youngsters. That is youngsters plural, not singular. The number of times people on here have had to endure that you tube clip of Cotchin and Murphy is ridiculous.

Maybe you should watch him play.

A 19 year old who has endured a crippling achilles injury comes back with little to no pre season training and is still is our best midfielder in the early stages of the year. Why wouldn't we be excited?

You make it sound like the hype is unwarranted. He is proving every week why we rate him highly.

I have watched him and he is good. Very good. But he's not the second coming.

Let's be honest being Richmonds best midfielder isn't exactly the most prestigeous prize in AFL footy.

I spend alot of time on the Richmond board and I hardly see anyone claim anything of the sort. If anything Richmond supporters are still skeptical if his body can hold up. Maybe early on a few were claiming such things but comments of the sort are few and far between these days.

Your second comment displays your lack of football knowledge. Playing good footy in a hopeless side is harder than doing so in a good side. The attention afforded to Cotch and Lids wouldn't occur if they played in most other sides. Cotchin's form early this year has been better than expected.

Oh really? I have not noticed that in the past 3 years...

My comments meant the fact he is richmonds best midfielder is not that great of an achievment. Its like when you guys talk up Lids as a star because he won 2 B&F, means little when you are garbage.

Grimey vs the Crotch.. have to go the Crotch, harder position and looks a real in and under clearance player, they are more important than cheapies off half back.

Only a football imbecile such as yourself equates a HBF with cheap posessions.

Sure, you have your Joel Bowdens that do get the cheap kicks, but have you seen Grimes play? Not only does he completely shut down his opponent (ala Didak last week), he provides the drive through the backline/ midfield and sets up the play.

Not to mention when he does go in to the midfield to do the clearence work, he does it very very well.

Trent Cotchin is already starting to become a superstar and it's only round 2 . Plyed very well against the dogs whilst having a hard tag while Grimes gets cheap possies off of the HB line . Cotch>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Melbourne
