Would have thought grimes would have had a better run with injuries with him being able to play more games in a row but i may be wrong as i dont have any thing to back it up im only assuming as when i watch melbourne he seems to be allways playing.

Only going by the fact Grimes manage 12 games in his first 2 years to Cotchin 25 and this was due to back injury on two separate occasions. Unforunately they have both been afflicted by injuries.

A good big man > A good little man

But it all depends on who was the higher initial draft pick as that means they have the most talent and potential

lol are you sure about that mate? pretty confident you would swap Grimes for Wood in a fraction of a heartbeat

bad luck

and no you can't have Jurrah back either

Grimes by a mile, developing into a solid player for them. Cotchin looks good when he has the ball but doesn't work hard enough and doesn't get enough of the ball except in junk time.

How 'bout watching a game or two before making such a statement.

His work rate on the weekend was exceptional. Will continue to improve with fitness.

Grimes plays an infinitely easier position than Cotchin who has been hampered by injury far more than Jack.

How is being a defender in a team that normally gets thrashed in the inside 50s "infinitely easier"?

Cotchin has a lot of upside and could go on to be better than Grimes but, at the moment given what they've both shown, Grimes would be the safer bet. Barring injuries, you are going to get at the minimum a very solid player out of Grimes and hopefully better. Cotchin could be a gun midfielder but he would be more of a risk.

I would take Morton over both of them though, largely because of the potential weapon a skilled and athletic player at his height could give us.

Interesting statement from a hawk’s supporter. I see Grimes playing a similar role to Luke Hodge.

Further Grimes has been more hampered by injury than Cotchin thus far. He has only just completed his first preseason and has basically played half the number of games Cotchin has.

Based on career averages, they suggest at least to date Grimes wins fairly comfortably with: 2.7 disposals a game more, 3.2 marks and 0.5 tackles. The only major stat Cotchin out points Grimes in is he averages 0.3 goals a game more, but with Grimes moving into the midfield it wont take long for him to snag a few more goals.

Stats aside I see a lot of upside in Cotchin, even with the benefit of hindsight I doubt Richmond supporters would want their footy department to take Grimes over Cotchin.

im not taking a shot at grimes here at all but your stats dont mean alot considering cotchins average game time is between 50%-70%
ive seen games were cotchin has played 50% game time and has got 20 possessions

this is a stupid poll anyway... every tiger supporter will say cotchin every melb supporter will say grimes, its good coz both clubs are happy

personally grimes plays alot easier position id love to see him play in the midfield every game

also im not 100% sure what injures grimes has had? but cotchin has been injured every season so far, and hasnt done a full pre-season... had problems with both achilles tendon which isnt a huge issue coz its the type of injury once your over it thats it it wont come back, that was basically coz his body was growing to fast and the achilles tendon wernt... he had a hip injury at the end of last season which cut his season short and stuffed his latest preseason

cotchin looks alot like gazza the way he plays and the same body type. im not saying he will be as good as gazza and win a brownlow or anything...

take a look at round 17 last year against the bombers, he ripped them a new one, just shows what talent he has

this poll would be have been if it was added in like 3 years

Grimes can play tall or small. Absolutely killed Didak on the weekend whilst still getting 20 odd effective possessions himself.

Looks like Cotchin, Dangerfield and Grimes will be the three best midfielders out of the draft.

Just saw this comment, and IMO it's too early to tell.
Rioli? He's shown as much (if not more) as a midfielder as Grimes.
I also am a huge fan of Callan Ward's. He is a good size, moves well and can kick a goal.
From my club in that draft, I'm really rate John McCarthy. He has been slowed down by injuries and lack of opportunity so far, but he is one I am excited about.
There's also Andy Otten, IMO I see him developing into a midfielder later down the track - he is big, uses it well and courageous.

Turning out to be a particularly good draft - excited to see these kids develop over the next few years!

You can say that again... what a first round, already probably 7 or 8 look to be the real deal while others are just getting warmed up

Cotchin is obviously a very good footballer, but unfortuatley has had limited success. I rate Jack Grimes very higher and believe in 3-5 years, he could be up there as a Brownlow favourite.

So Grimes > Cotchin

Uhh... are you actually trying to make a point?

Ha ha these polls are funny because obviously Tigers and Melbourne supporters are going to be bias. You really have to take in what the other fans are saying.

I will say though that both are already fantastic players and had great games on the weekend respictivley. I think Cotchin will hurt the other team more and become a top 5 mid in the comp. Grimes however can accumulate and shut down a Didak while doing so.

Hopefully in round 4 they cross paths in a 1 on 1 which would be awesome...then Lids would run free and destroy them all lol.

Either way Dogs are the ones that stuffed this draft up not that it matters with their current list and future F & S selections.

Maybe, but remember it was you guys effectively gave away Callan Ward to get McMuffin...

Oh yeah I completely agree that was major stuff up, however just saying out of the talent available in the top 15 Grant has shown nothing. However I am probably being harsh he is in his 3rd year and is a developing KPF in a gun side....however you would hope to see some sign of improvment this year.
