With Melksham gone for the year and Lumumba doubtful for the early rounds, Grimes has a perfect opportunity to re-establish himself in our best 22.

I still hold my breath every time he gets the ball in his hands but no-one can doubt his commitment and courage, and he's a very decent overhead mark for a mid-sized player.

I'd love to see him eradicate his clangers and become a good player again, but I'm still not sure he ever will.

I like Grimes when he backs himself to go for marks and then just kicks the ball to the first option available
Turning him into a midfielder was a garbage idea and its ruined his development to an extent, his reading of the game in relation to where his man is is elite but his reading of it with ball in hand is below standard

Pretty concerning that Jack misses out this week. Reckon Roos needs to do some explaining. WTF has Grimes got to play for? A Casey flag? It seems like he won't get picked no matter what he's doing at Casey while Hunt, Wagner and Omac get games with either no or limited VFL form. It would be hard not to be bitter.

His best is far behind him. If he is getting bitter I don't think the club will lose any sleep if he looks elsewhere at the end of the season. The younger blokes may have jumped the cue but they have shown good signs & will hopefully keep improving while Grimes has reached his ceiling & ATM hes just handy depth.

I'd be pretty pissed off being regularly in the best and named as emergency then different blokes each week leapfrog you.

I was searching around a bit and discovered that apart from a "should we trade him and what would we get" thread created by Striker in a slightly pessimistic mood, our former captain hasn't had a devoted player thread since 2013 - which is concerning since, in a BigFooty sense, his profile has fallen well below the great Toump of Power fame.

So Jack Grimes: I have been exceptionally bored during the preseason so have even read all the player profiles in the kids zone on the MFC website. There's nothing much of interest there - even he seems to think he is a bit dull really - except I did notice that while most players list Simpsons as their favourite cartoon as a kid, Jack's was Bananaman. I was impressed. I ******* love Bananaman.

Another thing about Grimes - I find myself saying uhoh every time he has ball in hand and pauses to weigh up who to kick it to. I can't stop myself even when re-watching a recorded match for the 15th time that I know we win
Maybe I was on the money.

Grimes is being played as a midfielder at Casey and I dont give a stuff how many times he gets it he is the worst midfielder on our list

He should be playing in defence and he should be spending all week at training working on his decision making because we are desperately lacking marking defenders

I really feel for Grimes. He looked such a talented prospect in the early years, battled a couple of injuries, had on and off field club dramas, given the captaincy at a young age, and then thrown everywhere from on-ball to wing to defence etc.

He had some good times, if I recall right he came runner-up one year at one of the BnFs, and got to play for the club he supported.

The sad reality is that he never got the chance to be developed, and it seems that it's probably too late for him now given his age.

We ruined him. When players don't succeed at Melbourne I'm usually more than content to blame the player for poor work-ethic, or Barry Prendergast for drafting them, but with Grimes (and quite possibly Trengove), we damaged their careers. Trengove is perhaps a little luckier he's still only 24 and has some time on his side.

He is a much better player than Dylan Grimes. There is no way Dylan should be getting games every week at the Tigers while Jack languishes at Casey.

Frank plays his 100th today. He actually got there!

Amazing to think how much has happened in his career
Traded for a for number 1 draft pick ( essentially)
First 3 years injury troubled struggling to put games together but showing huge talent as a marking defender In a side that is tanking and trying not to win enough game to allow them draft Jack Trengove
Dean Bailey turns melbourne into one of the most exciting teams in the AFL
By the end of 2011 Bailey has been sacked and the president is gravely Ill
All of a sudden Neeld rocks up pisses of all the senior players and makes Grimes and Trenners captains of the club with both having hardly played 100 games between them

There were at least 10 players worse than him yesterday.. I hope he remains in the side this week, and at the Dees in 2018
I'd be interested to see who these 10 players are. I can only come up with 1 definite and that's Mitch White and then maybe 4 or 5 that were probably on par with Grimes.
I'd like to see him maybe get one more game to prove me wrong but I'm pretty certain he won't be with the Dees next year.

In my opinion White, Wagner, BenKen, Vandenberg, M. Jones, Harmes all had less influence on the game/made more critical errors.

Jetta, Garlett & Vince are players we all expect more from, who had poor games.

OMac's stats aren't that bad but his inability to stick to a man can't be captured by data.

Grimesy didn't have his best game, but I think there are a few who should go before him...

Agreed, Id be more than shocked if he played ever again in the Red and Blue
If that was his last game for the Dees, what do you think they'll do with Trenners?
Does he get either a few more games this year to prove his worth or do they give him another year next year?

Agree with the vibe of what you're saying. But Jetta, Garlett & Vince all had better games than Grimes. The others were probably on par with Grimes.

I feel your pain with O Mac, he just never seems to get out of second gear.

Hard to say
From my living room moving as slow as he does means his careers over because he's not just slow he's a ****ing turtle
However if the club thinks they can add acceleration back into his game then bloody oath you'd give him another year .. if he gets acceleration back he stays for a few more after that because he's a much better footballer than Grimes
