Seconded. A good egg, just not quite the right size, decision making or time. Really hope he get a go elsewhere and plays another 3 years.

I agree with the decision, but it leaves a really sour taste in my mouth at the same time.

Pretty sure makes it easier, you guys delisted Newton so he could come to us at the end of 2014.

Yep. Early doors he looked like he'd be a great player for us. I don't know if it's foggy memory over time, but he was a good user of the pill during those first two or three seasons... or whatever he played of them whilst injured. Sad to see him go, and hope he gets a lifeline from somewhere (shortest odds on Richmond, I'd imagine).
 
Glad to see that Dees administration didn't give him an "easy" contract. Horrendous user of the ball, and is strictly a list clogger.

Might sound harsh but f him and any spuds in the team, I have been supporting Demons since the 80s and am sick of having no premierships in my lifetime.

Sadly he has limited awareness so constantly dishes off the hospital hand pass (usually to his team mates feet or over there head to really help the opposition tackle their man). He also makes the wrong desicion a and is a bad user of the ball by foot. He is behind to many players in his position and doesn't have the skill or pace to work elsewhere.

Pretty decent mark and leader but that's not enough. Great guy, had the pleasure of meeting him at a function and he had all the time to chat. So I'm sad for him but I'm happy for the team.

His intercept marking off the half back line early in his career made him a fan favourite, injuries certainly held him back and he couldn't get back to that early form in his career. As he was a Melbourne supporter growing up, glad he made it to 100 games for us.
 
I loved him, even though he looks like a ferret. However after watching the VFL grand final, not surprised in the least.

Not happy we ditched Matt Jones though. I thought he had another year or two being good depth and playing for Casey.
 
Thanks for giving your all to the team and never complaining. Got delivered a shit sandwich and ate it without fuss. Shouldered a massive load in the middle of the darkest period we've had and while it destroyed his confidence he still battled on. Still reckon he can give 100 good games in a Jetta role at another club if the fresh start helps. Trenners likely to go the same way next season. **** you Schwab, **** you Neeld, **** you footy gods.

Good luck young fella, find another place whether it be professional or a country club and get that smile back on that world worn face. Oh and eat a steak FFS. ****ing vegans.
 
Let's not forget how courageous he is. Put himself in harms way on many occassion, back with the flight and paid the price a couple of times.

Was a favourite of mine early on, one of the few shining lights we had.

Really hope he gets on another list. I think he is easily worth a punt, given he'll come free. Brisbane maybe? Ross doesn't mind an honest battler? North?
 
Can only echo the sentiments in this thread. Great clubman and was there for us in the dark times, and got thrust into a situation that someone his age shouldn't have had to deal with. Unfortunately he just wasn't going to be a part of our future plans.

Hope he gets a crack somewhere else.

His contract expires on October 31st, so it won't matter. If someone wants him as a free agent he'll be able to do it.
A similar thing happened last year, we delisted Jack Fitzpatrick around about this time, then a few weeks later traded him to Hawthorn for pick 100 odd.
We wouldn't prevent a good clubman from getting on with his career, and life.
Good luck to Grimey. Thought he was the beez neez back in the day. His career didn't quite come on but 100 games with all his injuries is a bloody good effort.
 
I'll never ever forget his awesome diving spoil to save a certain goal.

Can't remember who it was against, what ground it was at or what year it was, but it was awesome!
 
Really rated Grimes circa 2009-2012 off a back flank. Thought he was developing into the Rory Laird type but just always seemed to get injured as he hit form. Sadly that captaincy ruined him mentally & I think milked him of any confidence, hence the mistake ridden/hesitant footballer he became in his last 2-3 years. Feel for him.
