People should remember Jared Rivers struggled with injury for years before getting consistant games out of himself.

Different players i know, different injuries, but there is hope for him. go dees!

I was close to breaking something on my desk when I heard the news earlier. Let the words of others describe my feelings: "words don't work"

Real sorry to hear this... Trent Croad had something similiar and it was something he couldn't return from... fingers crossed the kid gets over it.

Also ruined the career of Matty Egan. Tayte Pears has a similar injury at the moment too. Though James Hird had the same injury, but recovered and played out the rest of his career.

This is categorically ****ED!

The silver-lining is it gives a chance to someone on the rookie list to put their hand.

Jack Grimes' long term injuries have pavved the way for Aussie and also Jordie McKenzie in the past, so hopefully someone can step up and at least give us some good news from this horrible turn of luck!

thats a great way of thinking about it. grimes is one of our most important players BUT there is a silver lining. Evans or Nicholson should get elevated. luckly we have some cover in this area.

terribly sad though

That is shocking news. These type of foot injuries seem to be as hard to come back from, or even harder, than ACL's. One thing he has in his favour is his youth and the fact that he doesn't have a really heavy frame. Still, the news could not be worse for him. Terrible luck for Jack and for the club. Hopefully the medico's are starting to get a clue how to treat this injury.

****ing mother ****ing **** sucking **** shit mother ****er!!!! Aaaaaaaaaargggg!!! 4th year in a row that Grimey suffers a major injury, and now one if the most destructive (career wise) that an AFL player can suffer.

Poor Jack.

If ever there was news deserving of a  this is it.

colin garland did something similar if i recall correctly and came back from it fine. I think it has been so hard for many players to come back from this sort of thing as they havent been given the time required for the healing process to be comeplete. Given time, it should heal fine.

Yeah Well said , He's gonna play 10 years or more at the club ,if it means him sitting out the rest of the season , then it's something I'm willing to accept . It sucks though , God it F@#Ken sucks.

Yeah, Melbourne don't want to rush this.

Trent Croad and Matthew Egan had their careers ended by it. Very tricky injury to fix/heal due to the lack of bloodflow to the area.

Get him right.

Egan came straight to mind. Thank god he's a fairly developed player, Grimes.

Just ease him back in, nice and slow. Part of the long term plan. Unfortunately he's turning into a bit of a Luke Hodge, for the early part of his career...

Well, one thing in his favour is that he seems like a model pro, so I'm sure he'll do everything he's told and will remain disciplined throughout the course of his rehab.

Terrible news, though, the kid has been forced to endure far more than his fair share of injuries.

The big difference between Egan and Grimes is recovery time. Egan was rushed back in 4 weeks and would dare say 100% of medicos would say this is a 6 month injury.

Garland has come back from this injury and Melbourne FC will take the same recovery program for Grimes to get him back 100% for a big 2012!

A chance for either Evans or Nicholson to get a game, Blease and Strauss need to step up now.

Didn't Egan do it in a preliminary final or something?

I have a 16 on my jumper... Maybe I should invest in a second one, with a different number, to wear when grimes inevitably gets injured every year. :s

Spot on, everyone knows Egan took a gamble playing without giving it the chance to heal properly & it back fired, career over.

I'm all filled with rage & pure annoyance for Jack, but I know if I think logically about it that the club are doing the right thing, they did the same thing with Garland for the same injury & he's come back without any limitations, I'd much rather lose Grimes for this season while we're still building than lose him next year or forever.
