So Viney is supposed to jump out the way & be dropped, bump & be suspended or not brace for contact & be knocked out himself?
Absolute howler of a decision!!

I think in reality Viney is supposed to not be there. That is the solution. I posted this on the North board but it is relevant here.

Essentially it doesn't have to make sense. I don't think they are expecting players behaviour to fundamentally change - because it genuinely can't - they are expecting to cover their own arses.

It's a poor decision, however as Brad Scott mentioned last night, most of the clubs stood by and accepted this earlier in the year. Perhaps one day, the larger clubs and supporter bases might realise that by allowing the AFL to hold the whip hand over so many smaller clubs they are making it impossible for those clubs to genuinely speak out against city hall.

What a silly decision. You grow up being taught to get involved in the contest, when two blokes that have 15-20kgs on him are running towards him if he tries to tackle he is going to get pancaked, if he as they suggested 'spins' out of the way he is going to be ridiculed by all and sundry, so he does the only thing plausible and remains on the ground and braces for impact. Surely incidental contact still has a place.

What a pathetic decision.

It's clear the AFL want to kill off one of the most important aspects of our game in the bump. No ifs, buts or maybes. They won't stop until we all fall in line like sheep and sit back and accept their version of the game. Sanitised and safe for the kiddies to play... I say those kids can play soccer and the AFL should leave our game alone.

As far as I'm concerned all the ridiculous rule changes and "interpretations" the last decade has only helped to sanitise and water down the game we all grew up with and loved. This decision is another of a long list of what we call "howlers"... They aren't "howlers" when that's what the AFL is trying to achieve (use it's powers to "ban out" things like the bump from the game).

The version we, our parents, our grandparents & great grandparents watched is threatened by rule changes which aim to negate the very aspects (such as the bump) which makes our game great to begin with. Leave it alone AFL. Overhaul the MRP system so we get some consistency and sit down and actually listen to the fans for once rather than just acting like you own the game. You don't own the game itself you are merely a vehicle to administer it in this competition.

People are already voting with their feet , crowds are down, the game itself is ordinary in comparison to as early as 10 years ago with this chip chip shit rolling maul crap - and now pirouette out of the way or get 2 weeks when you have no choice but to brace or have your face broken yourself! The game is finished.

If these decisions are being made based on worrying about head injuries or to give the mums of the world confidence that their little darlings won't get hurt playing footy to stay away from soccer guess what AFL ? Soccer is a much better option at the moment because at least we know the rules ! As soon as the A League improves further in a few years people will turn off in droves if the AFL doesn't fix this crap - the game is becoming a farce. It's shit to watch and it's soft ...my teams shit to boot and I'm officially over it !

In my opinion, Lynch contributes to his own injury by keeping his head down in the hope that he'll draw some head high contact and get a free kick.

We expected this result, purely because it was the most absurd outcome possible, not because any right thinking person genuinely believed Viney had done anything even remotely wrong.

This over adjudication, over complication, of the sport so many (try) to enjoy, is yet another example of why some of the public have left the game for other entertainment.

The sport, this nearly infinite golden goose, is run by people unable of making a rational or intelligent decision, taking it for granted that this game will continue to roll on and drag in wads of money.

I despair at what these fools have done to the game.

Lynch is as much to blame. He was getting tackled and bent his knees meaning contact above the shoulders was gonna happen. Viney didn't bump though, just braced for contact.

To be honest anyone that thinks thats worth weeks is a moron. What did you want him to do? not turn his body and turn it into a head clash where they both crack there heads open? yeah that would be ok because his intent wouldn't be to bump them... He could have dropped his shoulder and actually bumped and owned him completely but in the 0.005 seconds he had to decide he turned to protect him self. As bucks said the ball could have bounced towards him, he picks up the ball, still does the same thing but gets off. PLEASE melbourne appeal this.. If this was preliminary final and he missed the granny because of that would be the biggest travesty ever.
