Some people just don't understand split second preservation mode.how the hell could he tackle without opening up his rib cage and chest to damage from the impact... Id like to see you tackle someone front on while he is being tackled by someone else both running almost full pace.. Even your boy lewis couldn't believe it.

The tribunal is independent of the AFL & is made up of ex-players!
In my opinion they have done an excellent job this year thus far & gotten most decisions correct, including & most especially this one. Despite all the media hype to the contrary....Which is the only thing that is hysterical in this case!
Once again, Viney had the alternative to tackle & didn't. Any one who argues that he didn't is deluded!

Would love to see Melb fans boycott Sat nights game and just sit outside the 'G with protest banners
Ok, so they have come out and said he had other options and that he was not bracing for contact, now how the **** does he only get 2 weeks?
I think it's pretty clear an appeal will be a waste of everyone's time.Pretty hard to be shoulder to shoulder when you shoulder someone to the head. That would be shoulder to head. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't for one second to want Hodge to have gone for that, but this is the point ... hitting someone in the head in a contest shouldn't be an automatic suspension.
I can't fathom the logic of Jeff Gleeson saying Viney should have spun out of the way. This is not the game I fell in love with when players are being told to literally jump out of the way to avoid incidental contact with another player on the off chance they might get hurt. It all happened in a second and Viney simply braced for contact that was coming his way. It's not like he barrelled into the bloke. I hope to buggery he appeals this.

Great post.What a pathetic decision.
It's clear the AFL want to kill off one of the most important aspects of our game in the bump. No ifs, buts or maybes. They won't stop until we all fall in line like sheep and sit back and accept their version of the game. Sanitised and safe for the kiddies to play... I say those kids can play soccer and the AFL should leave our game alone.
As far as I'm concerned all the ridiculous rule changes and "interpretations" the last decade has only helped to sanitise and water down the game we all grew up with and loved. This decision is another of a long list of what we call "howlers"... They aren't "howlers" when that's what the AFL is trying to achieve (use it's powers to "ban out" things like the bump from the game).
The version we, our parents, our grandparents & great grandparents watched is threatened by rule changes which aim to negate the very aspects (such as the bump) which makes our game great to begin with. Leave it alone AFL. Overhaul the MRP system so we get some consistency and sit down and actually listen to the fans for once rather than just acting like you own the game. You don't own the game itself you are merely a vehicle to administer it in this competition.
Really hate to say it, but I reckon if Viney was playing for a richer/more successful club like Collingwood or Hawthorn, he would have got off. The meltdown would have been ten times this if it was the Pies. But I reckon they were like "Meh, we screwed them over before with Jack Trengove sling tackle/they are a lower tier club. There will be a burst of anger and then it will die down..."
Not saying that is the sole basis but would have paid a (minor) part.
Some people should not be allowed access to social media.Cant flim-flam the tex-man.
But seriously, wasn't he calling for Viney to get 4 weeks just the other day?

Kicks won't be able to go more than 50m due to hamstring issues on the increase.
