He's been as per advertised.

Which is exactly what we wanted. Another Justin Westhoff clone so Westhoff can do what he does elsewhere.

We got what we paid for, and right now anything more from him would be an unexpected bonus.

I’d like him to hit the scoreboard a bit more now that Ryder is back and Dixon is taking most of the KPD heat. He’s averaging just over a goal per game so he should be aiming to double that output for the rest of the year and end up on 30+ goals.

due for a smallish bag i reckon.. at the end of the day he's a link player and thats exactly what we are getting .

So you're expecting him to have a similar to career best year as a tall in a new club.

Fair enough.

Considering the trash teams he’s played in I don’t think that’s unreasonable. He’s coming into his prime and assuming we’re good enough to play finals he should have plenty of opportunities.

Assuming.

Funnily enough his old club looks pretty competent too right now.

Looks can be deceiving. Melbourne has always looked great when the play is on their terms. It's when they are actually challenged that they go to water - Goodwin is a disciple of Neil Craig just like Don Pyke don't forget.

I said they were competent not locked in for the flag. In any event they are better now than at any time that Jack was playing for them.

I want to see how he goes once we have Marshall back in the side. Between Todd's situation and Ryder's injury we've had a half of football this season, that we would have planned and practiced for our forward line this pre-season.

Recon you may be into something here, hopefully we see that against Richmond next week

And a link player he is .. been watching Port replays .. you might be surprised how many times his ball movement has set up goals.

I don’t think he bears any similarities to Westhoff...

He is a poor mans Jack Gunston IMO.

We don't play a style of football that lends itself to players 'kicking bags'. It's too dour and stagnant and based on numbers rather than positioning, you would basically have to just find yourself in the right place at the right time to kick a bag (unless you've got Robbie Gray like forward craft to make something out of nothing). I think he's playing his role to a solid level without being exceptional.

Watts is there to finish off the work of the midfield either as a kick inside fifty or for goals. He is never going to be a 20 touch or 3-5 goal a game player and nor does he need to be. 15 touches, 1 goal and a couple of assists would be excellent. He will also take some pressure off Dixon and Marshall. Having Marshall in the side will allow Watts to really step up in that link man type role.

Having Marshall in the side will allow Watts to be that third tall floating defender we sorely miss.

I don't think Watts was brought in to be a guy that should regularly be making the BOG lists, like Rockliff and Motlop were. Doing his job.

Watts is the least of our worries. Loses one-on-ones too much which isn’t great, but if the rest of our forwards had his smarts and his finishing ability, we’d be top 4 without a doubt.
