Traded Jake Stringer [traded to Essendon]

Confirmed again on SEN this morning. He wants to get to Geelong.

Will pick 20 get it done, and where does this now leave giblet jnr?

Will that catters trade in to next seasons superdraft?
Pick 20 is not value, but the Dogs are the ones putting him on the trade table.

Do you think Geelong might trade players for JNR? Maybe Motlop or Menzel.

I can't see either of those players being a pressing need for the Dogs.

Stringer is contracted and WB appear to be very cold blooded about this, so if they aren't satisfied adequately they may hold on to him.

I think a multiple player trade with WB can be done. There has been rumblings about Dalhaus and Libba being on the table and both come out of contract as RFA's next season. A club might look at bundling up Stringer with another Dog for a top shelf pick.

A club like Carlton might think pick 3 is overs for Stringer, but Stringer & Dalhaus/Libba for pick 3 is a lot more enticing.

Geelong met with him yesterday and by all reports, that's his preferred destination.
Not a bad get for pick 20.

And if it becomes true Doggies will be begging that he changes his mind and says Essendon. Pick 11 is fair but going into pick 20 + when they'll just have to accept it? Could get ugly.

I meant Motlop to Suns for Ablett

Motlop is going to port and menzel i suspect will stay at Geelong or go home to SA.

I would say Geelong will either offer pick 20 + a later pick (say a later 2nd/3rd round) or our 2018 1st for stringer unless there are any of our fringe players the dogs are keen on.

Okay, I doubt GC would take a risk with Menzel.

Motlop is a chance as I don't see him getting a lot of interest.

Dogs have made huge error in telling him he's up for trade. Should have blindsided him during trade week and created a bidding frenzy. They'll lose him on the cheap now. He'll dig his heels in for a certain club now too.

I can't see you guys giving up next year's 1st as well. But Geelong usually are quite reasonable to trade with.

Stringers value will increase as we get closer to trade week.

If he nominates a couple of clubs it certainly will. But if he nominates just the one then his value will be completely dependant on what that clubs available picks are, ie Geelong with pick 20 or Essendon with pick 11

We generally are reasonable and fair to deal with so i expect we will offer the dogs a reaonable deal.

How's this for a scenario?

Bulldogs don't accept pick 20 for a 23 year old former All Australian and leading goalkicker. They follow through on what they've said and hold onto him because he's contracted and we said we aren't trading him for unders.

Jake remains at the dogs for 2018. Maybe rotting in the reserves, maybe having turned it around.

We reconvene this time next year and Geelong still want him. Now he's off contract. Geelong could gamble on him just going to the PSD. But north and st kilda have the picks first and the cap room to prevent being priced out.

I remember thinking this scenario for Ryder.... ahh those were the days.

The ramifications of doing that will hurt the Dogs long term though so it isn't in your best interest to do that.

Your club has publicly hung him out to dry.

The contract isn't worth the paper it's written on. It means nothing. He will nominate a club and that club will have leverage. He will be traded to that club.

It's not like the Gibbs scenario, unless you want a McCarthy situation where you get SFA.

I really hope it's not Essendon because I don't want him.

Yes :(

Ah the ole worthless contract.

I remember we were being told we were hard to deal with when we didn't accept a very late first rounder.

Prepare for indignancy doggies fans.

Once a player nominates a club the deal typically always get done sooner or later. Why would the bulldogs want to keep him and let him rot in reserves and lose trade value and effectively get nothing for him while still paying his contracted amount? Just spiteful and incredibly stupid.

If he nominates Geelong they will Trade Pick 20 + something maybe

If he nominates Essendon they will Trade Pick 11.

If he nominates both than obviously Essendon has the better currency.

Seen all three. Seen King just the once, but Rankine and Lukosius, I've seen them live on at least four occasions as I work directly within a SANFL club. Rankine will slide next year. I like him, but he's almost a clone of James Aish at the same age, but with a better handball, but poorer pace. His last game for the Bloods was excellent, but he also had some poor games throughout the year against kids his own age, like many of these prospects do, we just remember the highlights. I haven't seen enough of King to make an informed judgement, but while Lukosius has looked good at times, he's also been very well held. In the QF, his only two goals, both came from very soft free-kicks in the goal square, one of which which was a third man up hold in the marking contest, and the other was due to a kick out infringement. He was held all game, to zero direct goals by a 180cm makeshift full back who hadn't played full back all year. Now that's not a slight on Lukosius who's achieved great things at his age, it's more to the point that we look at underage players with Rose coloured glasses on but judge 18 year olds to a much higher standard. Fogarty was injured throughout the year, and has fallen out of the top 8 in most phantoms, even though he was a clear #1 at this stage last year based on his underage form.

Same thing will happen next year mate. There will be a new crop of underage players who will play well in the National Championships, and might play a couple of senior games at the end of the year. But then, come 2019, bigfooty will tell us it's a weak draft but the 2020 group could be the best since 2001...
What did you think of Lukosius on Sunday Buzz?
One of the best league debuts I've seen in a long time and to do it in a Prelim final against one of the best defenders at SANFL level says something about the kid. He is going to be fun to watch next year in the SANFL

If he has nominated Geelong that is where he will end up. Would be disappointing to miss out on him but hopefully we know early enough and can move on. I'd still be getting on the front foot until the time he nominates and offering up some decent dollars even overs perhaps and see how much his heart really is in Geelong

Only saw the second half, but he was outstanding. His positioning and first five metres of pace is superb.

Stringers value will increase as we get closer to trade week.
Not if those connected to the Dogs keep lining up to whack him publicly.

Good job by Bob this morning, just keep throwing fuel on the fire.

2018 first rounder is much better than pick 20 this year.

That would be the worst case scenario if he went to the cats.
What do they give up for Devon Smith then?

If you watched today's panel and came away thinking he and his manager are going to nominate the one club that doesn't have the currency to actually trade for him, you've got rocks in your head.

The only people with rocks in their heads here are the Western Bulldogs.

Utter fools, burning their bridges on what would otherwise have been a very valuable commodity.

Stringer will get where he wants to go, without a shadow of a doubt, and the Dogs will get less than they otherwise would have if they'd kept their fool mouths shut.

Absolute basketcase of an organisation, run by bloody fools.

The difference being Stringer didn't initiate they trade and would prefer to stay. Most Bulldog fans would prefer he changes his ways and stays with the club.

We won the flag last year, you won the spoon. Given your recent history I wouldn't be throwing around the 'basketcase' label too hastily.
