Waa hilarious that some turned to the indigenous card.

Esp from Geelong fans, whose treatment of Indigenous Players over the years has hardly been home to write home about (esp Tim Kelly in recent years)

Natural next question is why now?

Now that Bevo looks very content to pump games into him and wear the natural ups and downs a skinny, first year key position player is going to have surely it’s to his benefit to wait until next year before he puts pen to paper.

Not even a loaded question, timing is just very odd

Maybe he likes it at the Bulldogs?

One of (if not) the best midfield in the AFL kicking it down his throat, with another young gun KPF who takes the bulk of defensive attention.

Apart from future earnings what else does he have to gain?

And why wouldn’t he?

Just seems like an in between time to do it, knocking it on its head earlier like many high picks have done could have stopped the media shitstorm of 6 weeks ago, waiting almost guarantees him a bigger and potentially longer deal.

I guess it’s entirely possible there was an agreement in principal in place some time ago but they were waiting on confirmation of list sizes and stuff like that to iron out finer details.

Why, loads of first year players extend in their first year. It’s nothing unusual at all.

When was the last time you saw a number 1 draft pick walk out of his club after his initial/first contract in the AFL ?

It really was a crap rumour started by Sammy Edmund, a reporter normally I expect better from

The inner workings of professional football clubs often mystify BF posters.

Hard to believe, isn't it?

Tom Boyd walked out of his club before his initial/first contract was up

Any chance Josh Bruce looks for his fourth club?

Is he surplus to requirements after 2021?

I mean he's kicked 45 goals this year. Only game he didn't goal against was Eagles in the wet.

Not bagging him.
Just asking the question.
You guys may well win the flag this year.
I am talking 2022/23/24.

Nah.

He'll be important while JUH and Darcy (if he's seen as a forward by the club) are developing.

Will be a smooth transition by the end of Bruce's contract, hopefully.

JUH and Darcy will still be very raw and Naughton is still relatively new to the forward craft and injury prone.

Bruce is a great mature body down there.

Definitely not next year. I don't imagine Darcy finds a role early, and JUH is still quite raw so we'll need the Bruce and Naughton combo for at least another year. I imagine clubs may enquire but I'd hope we keep him for 2022 at bare minimum, if not longer

You are doing ok for the next decade - English, JUH, Darcy, Naughton :thumbsu:

Like a :rainbow: struck u in the ass.

Not wrong. Was only a few years ago we were playing Billy Gowers as our full forward, desperately recruited Schache and had Roughy as a KPF. So much has changed in a short period of time and suddenly we're overflowing with key forwards. A lot can change in a short period of time and definitely grateful for it!
