Hey guys, I am really interested in this guy's career. He seems to be good value for Tasmania. Only 20 years old and already has two 5 fors at first-class level, a bowling average of 21, and a reasonable batting average.

I don't really get a chance to watch Tassie play, living in Launceston. I was wondering if any of you guys have watched him play, and if so how you rate his game? Is he a future international prospect? How fast does he bowl? And is his batting technique solid? etc.

Seen him play a couple of times. Great bowler as stated above. Ok batter. His technique will improve but Faulks is one to watch in the next few years

Haven't seen much of him but followed some of his performances. Looking VERY impressive so far. :thumbsu:

Yep, I agree. That 5/5 was amazing. People might talk about a bowler friendly wicket, but how many bowlers get 5 wickets at 1 run per wicket? At the age of 20, no less. Moreover, SA got 400 odd in the follow on, so the wicket can't have been too bad.

I've only seen him play 2-3 times but I rate his bowling. Batting not so much but the potential is there and I think he'll become more of a genuine bowling allrounder with time.

Played Aus U19 so he obviously has international potential, and the way he's been getting progressively better he could be playing for Aus in 5 years time.

There has been a noticeable jump in Faulkner's pace this year to start with there were control issues but he's corrected them and has probably gone past the other challenges for his spot and with Geeves injured and Hilfy away Faulkner is soon to lead the Tasmanian attack. If the batsman can start giving him scores to bowl out he will start to take some big hauls.

What sort of pace is he getting? I've seen quite a few of our 130km/h bowlers struggle to make it at the next level especially in the longest format.

Perhaps you'd like to offer some reasons for that fairly blunt opinion.

Drummond doesn't rate Faulkner he's already made that clear. Aussie 1st I cant give you speeds as i've not the seen the gun but it was fair to say his first couple of seasons he was bowling medium/fast like his old man I'd say this year he's pushed that up toward the 140 mark but he is not maintaining that through an innings. He still has a lot to work on but is certainly taking wickets and taking them against the top order.

Give Faulks a baggy green!

He looks much sharper than this time last year, bowling with an extra yard of pace, and his upright action provided plenty of bounce.

I'm not suggesting higher honours for him just yet, but he has all the tell tail signs of a quality seamer for years to come. If only his batting had come along like his bowling, he would be Jacques Kallis Mk II. There is still time for his batting though, as technically he looks a Top 6.

Nice if he can snare another 5fer today, which is looking likely.

James Faulkner from Tassie...

As an expat Taswegian I keep an eye out every now and then on the local cricket scores and have seen this young left arm quicks name in the stats a few times this season.

He's taken 3-5 in the first hour of play this morning according to the local paper....including the prize scalp of Australian cricketing stalwart M.North after he faced just 7 balls.

Does anyone have any info/thoughts/opinions on him? What pace does he bowl at?

Cheers

Hazey

ha ha ha

From what I've seen of him, he bowls at a gentle pace 130-135 but not many young quicks get it up to 140+. Anyone that can average under 20 at FC level must be pretty damn good.

that's the concern.

i haven't seen him bowl so can't comment, but even though his numbers are impressive so far, if he is only bowling high 120's to max low 130's ala Nathan Bracken then it's hard to see him doing the job at the next level.

hopefully wrong - we need bowlers coming through badly.

Another great spell of bowling today! Tassie are 1/78 atm, so the pitch can't be too shoddy. Looks exciting.

Promising young player.

This thread needs to be on the domestic board, with the other threads on domestic players.

Unbeatean half century today to back up his great bowling in the first innings, including 5 fours and 2 sixes (s/r of 82). One of only 3 players so far to pass 50 in the game.

I haven't been watching the game but that seems like a pretty impressive innings, probably his best to date. Will see how he goes with the ball in the second innings but he's been having a great season so far.

Give him a baggy green! Whadaplayer lol. Seriously though, he surely must have put his name up in lights so far this season with the selectors. He just keeps playing well. He should at least be in the running for Australia A.

can't find any vision on the net of him bowling. anyone got any??

17 wickets at 11 is a very impressive season thus far, but i never get excited when i see a bowler listed as medium pace. i've never seen him bowl so can't comment.

Man of the Match in the shield game against WA. 5/60 odd, and a quickfire 52no on a fair wicket. Great stuff.

His pace is definilty on the up this year. Its not Mitchell Johnson pace but he's now easily passed the Andrew McDonald pace and certainly bowling quicker than Hilf does at his first spell. Weather he maintains that through a long innings is an unknown but probably drops a shade as an innings goes on but that's common with a lot of young quicks.

the most encouriging thing about Faulkners wickets though is the number of top order players in the last few games are falling to him.

James Pattinson from Victoria is definitely the quickest of the three 20 year olds (Pattinson, Faulkner and Starc).
