Hahahahahaha - taste the desperation.

So now I'll go and take away the worst 30% of finals games in James Hird's career - playing by your rules of course because the worst 30% of games don't count. Just because OK!!

Want to guess how that turns out? :D

And ******* LOL at this:

"Buckley at his peak > 2007 on one leg Bucks > Hird > Voss in finals."

But he was carried to that flag, right? :rolleyes:
I havent said exclude them, just put them in context.

You are trying to use career averages to back up your assertion that Buckley performed worse in finals compared to H&A.

I have repeatedly pointed out flaws in that approach.

In 2007 Buckley avg 15 disposals in H&A, this had next to no impact on his total career avgs...but his 2007 finals performace accounts for 30 percent of the career finals record you keep quoting.

Every finals series Buckley played in, he improved his performance compared to that season...cant ask for anymore.

You cant simply compare Swan's numbers to Buckley's.

When Buckley was playing in the 90s teams would avg less than 300 disposals per game, compared to almost 370 during Swan's time at the top.

For instance in 1999 Bucks avg 29.6 disposals, and there were only 9 players in the league who avg above 25.

This year L.Neale avg 33 and there were 49 players who avg above 25.
I know - tell that to your fellow supporter.

Three crazily good players,

I agree with alot that Buckley was probably the most consistent across his career. Hird missed so much football due to injuries which must count for something;

I vote it like this;
Consistency - Buckley
Leadership, toughness(best captain) - Voss
Match winning ability - Hird

Buckley captained a team without one AA to within 8 points of the Lions who had AAs on every line (pretty much), including 4 onballers in the 2002 GF.

He captained a team that beat the Lions in the 2003 qualifying final, only to lose Rocca in the prelim rendering our fwd line useless in the 2003 GF.

2007 he was at it again, ran the Cats to within a kick in the 2007 prelim, again we were vastly outmatched talent wise.

Buckley led ordinary sides to within a whisker of beating 2 of the best teams OAT, not sure how anyone can rate Voss a better skipper.

Voss is a 4x AFLPA Best captain award winner. How many times did Buckley's peers vote him the best captain in the league?

Voss finished 1st, 2nd and 1st in the premiership best and fairests.

Not sure you can lead a team much better than that can you?

Yeah like a Collingwood captain is ever going to win that award lol

Hird for me. Would like to see a poll on who the better coach was of the three. Obviously Buckley would probably be the best due to him still being around but he hasn't exactly been great.

Voss was the best coach.

James Hirds ability to find the footy and turn a game in his clubs favour at crucial times in matches was unmatched.
Buckley was elite, driven and consistent.
But Voss for me....he was ferocious at the footy and a skillful smart user of it....and tough....what gets him over the line though was his ability to inspire and lift team mates....a terrific captain.

Depends what you value most really. Buckley wasn't quite a game changer like the other two, but the sheer number of quality possessions week after week can't be ignored. Personally I'd rate Hird and Buckley ahead of Voss, not to take anything away from Voss.

This is pretty funny, The one thing which kills Voss to this day was his direct opponent won a Norm Smith playing against him, has said it multiple times and even on open Mike.

Leigh Matthews great quote to the Lions runner 'Get Voss off Buckley and send him forward, he (Buckley) is destroying him. He cant bloody well go with him.'

Matthews himself said Buckley was the best and most influential player on the ground.
