James Hird, absolute class act.

Did Carlton not say he was on his last chance, a few chances ago?
They should, and quite possible will, get rid of him. He knows how much the club needs him so from his perspective why would he change his behaviour. What's a $10k fine to him when his pulling in $600k a year. On the night he gave a waiter $500 to bring him more beers, when all alcohol was free of charge.
His behaviour can no longer be condoned or excused.
Juddy was clearly not impressed, and IMO I think he will be traded.

Absolutely not.

So long as Fevola is kicking goals (coleman medallist), he is untouchable at Carlton, and both he and the club know this.

James Hird - upmost respect for the man as a footballer - skilled, courageous, great in big games.

My first (and last) personal experience with James Hird was at the pool at the Essendon football where my 10 year old nephew and his mate asked to shake his hand and was told to 'piss off'!.

The attendant working there rolled his eyes and called him a 'temperamental genius'. The kids were in shock and his Mum (my sister) wanted to abuse him.

In my opinion a self-serving prick and master media manipulator as evidenced by the shamelessy contrived act of taking his kid out on the MCG after his last game for a 'private' kick-to-kick

Whilst he is a buffoon, I'll take Fev anyday - at least with him what you see is what you get.

And yet for your story there are dozens of others about how warm and generous with his time the man is.

One wonders how your nephew approached him - the mother wanting to abuse a private citizen because he chose not to be hassled by her kid may be some indication.

Often people behave with a repulsive entitlement toward celebrities.

This would be the one of the only times ive ever heard anything like this regarding hird, sure not a bit of story telling on your part?

^Are you talking crap to make Fev look better or did that actually happen? I find it hard to believe that Hird would just say piss off to a couple of kids.
Of course he is. I've heard from family (crazy bomber supporters) that he is an awesome guy, they have interacted with him for over ten years. I know who I'll believe.

Struggling to believe that for a second.

Why is it so hard to believe?

Is it because the media portrayed him as a saint all his career or do you actually know the guy personally?

The convenient deployment of the story in this thread as a clear deflective measure is what aroused my suspicion.

Innocent until proven guilty. I've seen video of Fev calling his captain "****ing shit"... haven't seen any videos of Hird telling kids to piss off.

Oh hang on - we have Fevola absolutely ripped apart on Big Footy and the media over the last weeks and then we have this love fest on James Hird which has turned into another Fevola bashing, and I'm accused of deflecting the thread.

Apologies for bursting the St James Hird bubble - and to respond to those other posters about how everyone at Essendon swears he's a great guy, I also have very close ties to Essendon (unfortunately !) and can guarantee you there are plenty of people within and around the club who feel the same as me.

I accept he is revered by the players and coaches and executive but to summarise, unless you can do something that will help James Hird he doesn't want to know you.

I've bumped into him on multiple occassions, all away from anything football related and he's been nothing but nice. He also has ties to my neighbours soccer club and I've never heard a bad word from them either.

I won't say your pool story is BS as they could have caught him in a bad mood, he is only human after all. However I do call BS on your ties to the EFC otherwise you would have mentioned this earlier.

If I saw Fev and Hirdy in a bar, I'd party with Fev first.

Yeah, you've got a limited window with Fev. Wait an hour and he'll be an incoherent, annoying, vomiting mess.

Hird would still be lucid later on.

You mean like Vossy & Blacky did in St. Kilda a few years back?:thumbsu:

Are either Voss or Black Jonathon Brown? No. Moronic comment.

There is one element in all this that hasn't bee touched on yet.

The fact that Fev is a Dad.

Imagine having BRENDAN FEVOLA as your father.

The footage of Fev tonight on TFS confirms one thing. That James Hird is a class act. You can have money and talent, but decorum and decency is priceless.
Always had admiration for the man, but seeing how he carried himself on Monday with Fev just confirms it.
Not all footballers are boofheads and that was a snapshot of the parity that currently exists.

This guy would have to be the most boring guy on the planet,in my opinion,he surely must have been a 100% nerd in school.

He must be so boring to be with.I guess some people like to be put to sleep.

What a horrible father! How dare he take his kids out for a kick of the footy! And hours after the football had finished too! DISGRACEFUL!!!!!:thumbsd::thumbsd:

We all have bad days mate. Definitely not a memory you'd like to keep of a bloke you seemingly respected. I have one of Terry Daniher which is frighteningly similar although at the family day after the 85 Grand Final so I can relate.

Personally, when I interact with someone I will show that person respect so long as that person respects me, my family and friends, but not total strangers, which are what footy players are. To assume they'll give up their time, every time, is naive but sadly reality.

I never thought I'd agree with Sam here, Fev didn't kill anyone. I thought it was rather funny actually. Something Alex will be able to embarrass Fev with for many years to come.

So he was an annoying drunk, big deal. Everyone should get off from their high horses.

Stop being so precious!
