I saw that Lebron James has played against a total of 35 percent of NBA players ever now which was crazy when I first heard it. The more I thought about it it made sense he has played 21 of around 70 years which is already 25-30 percent of time and he is playing in a competition now with more teams than before and bigger rosters with more rotations and time management. It makes sense now but still a crazy stat!

Since the AFL inception who has this title and what sort of percentages.

Scott Pendelbury? Tom Hawkins? Peter Burgoyne?

There is more teams now and squads are a lot bigger and so are rotations so I’m guessing someone modern. The AFL has been since 1988? 34 years and guys like Buddy played in 17-18 years with big increases in those times has he or someone else played against or with 50 percent or more of AFL players?

Boomer?

It'd be purely a reflection of most seasons played in the AFL. Therefore, it's Dustin Fletcher (22)

I don’t know about that Fletcher started early 90s and I think the games changed into a more frequent turnover of players, more team rotations and 2 more teams in total and bigger rosters. I don’t have the stats but someone more recent may challenge him.

I think you'll find turnover is actually lower now, which would be evidenced by more players reaching 250+games

And list sizes Are actually smaller now too. Old lists were 50+ before reserves etc

I think it was more set in stone though, these guys play each week. I could be wrong for sure though.

I know Harry Lever from St Kilda (1905-1922) played with 280 teammates, meaning he played with ~17% of all Saints players from history.

Probably had a lot of turnover due to WW1 and players dying in the trenches.
Yep - a lot of the players with the most teammates played during the world wars.

You have to consider that Fletcher would be the only player to play against both Fitzroy and GC/GWS.

This is genuinely amazing - thanks for it! Without meaning any disrespect, I'm also surprised it came from you cos I mostly only see some smartarse one liner in your posting.:p

Anyway, thanks again.

(P.S. Surprised Tucky didn't make the above list given his longevity and the fact he held the record for most games played for so long).

Haha cheers. Tuck just made the top 20, from memory.

What were some of the earlier ones like Coventry and Dyer?

What were some of the earlier ones like Coventry and Dyer?
It must be hard for those players because there was only 10-12 teams compared to 18 now so that would automatically reduce their totals and therefore percentage.
