James Sicily - how will it turn out?

For a player to carry attitude as he does, he needs to be elite (another Hawk, Brereton comes to mind). He's not elite. Can he be ? Somewhere between handy and very good I think is his place. Until he lessens the gap between his best and worst, we won't know where he ranks, as consistent form lines is what players are judged on over a career

Lol

This is a non-post. I'm not even sure what point you're trying to make

Simple. He is arrogant. To carry that arrogance and not be seen as a campaigner you need to be elite. Brereton was arrogant, but he is a legend. I'm simply suggesting until he shows consistency we won't know where he fits. His best suggest he's good enough. His worst suggests flog. I think somewhere in between is where he finishes.

Arrogance v confidence. Subtle difference

he's 189 from what I hear. Just watch him in space from half back and you'll see what I mean by how quick he is. I agree he isn't as quick as Jayden Hunt, but wouldn't be far off it at all. When I said he was in top 3-4 at Hawthorn, I was corrected by numerous Hawks saying he is #1 comfortably.

Comfortably faster than Smith and Hartung? If so I'll retract my comment.

In terms of sprint speed yes. Rioli, Poppy and Burgoyne are his main challengers when it comes to 20-40m sprints.

Some players though do well when they pump themselves up.

Hey. I think we are on the same page. But I interpreted the Op as asking how he will be seen in the long term. I think Sicily can be a good to very good player, but unless he reaches elite, many folks will see that confidence/arrogance as floggish. I do recall early days some Hawks hailing him as the next Brereton. He has a long way to go to get close to the great man

Lol, don't be such a grumble guts. He wilts under pressure. Just accept it.
He'd also be delisted if he didn't develop as a back man. He failed as a fwd, so he he's a very lucky contest shirker.
He kicked 30 goals last season and stood up in some very big games, he was a long way from being delisted. The wilts under pressure line is just bull shit, he always looks calm and composed with ball in hand and is willing to take the game on.

What? He kicked 30 goals as a 21 year old forward in 22 games and won a rising star nomination. How did you do the mental gymnastics to get to failed forward and delisting material? Hell he kicked the winning goal against your. Mob round 3.

Can i buy some of your drugs? Your namesake in Boyd hasnt kixked more then 20 goals a season yet. What does this make Boyd?

Funnily enough hes elevated his game so much in the last 6 weeks as well. Even Clarkson has come out and publicly backed Sicily to play with that edge and confidence.

If he can play as well as he has in the last 6 weeks he can be as much of a "flog" as possible. Hes been fantastic for us down back after losing 4 of our back 6 this year.

I think the OP mucked this up. It was obviously meant to be titled " James Sicily- how will his thread turn out"? The answer of course is...as expected. The overwhelming majority of non Hawthorn posters will call him a flog ( fair enough I guess ) and plenty will say he is a pretty ordinary player ( total garbage ) as well. Most Hawthorn posters will disagree and for some reason attempt to argue with people they regard as clueless. No ones opinion will be changed.

I don't really think Sicily gives two shits about what people on Bigfooty think he is. If he needs to gee himself up to play well then I'm all for it.

Sicily's absolute best is elite. Consistency is the big issue and that is something yet to be seen. His last month has been consistent but careers are not built on months but many, many years. Can he maintain it? Who knows but he's certainly fun to watch.

Personally I love the fact that footy has pests and I love to hate them. Sicily fits that mould. The game needs more villains.
