We are bound to lose a player sooner or later. Can’t just keep throwing big money at every half decent player that says they want to leave.

Let’s not pretend that Polec is an AA wingman. And even if he was, if we can’t adapt to the loss of Polec then our coaches and players are somehow even worse than we think.
 
I'm sure the club will make the right call. They know his foot situation better than anyone else and if it's too risky to give him 4 years + then so be it.
Just because we were burnt by Burger jr. doesn't mean anything. Different time, different personnel.

If we lose Polec, we should be going very hard for Gaff. Couldn’t care less if he will be out for the first few weeks, he is a star and an upgrade on Polec. He also will not cost us anything other than the money. Never know, he might come a fraction cheaper now.
We could come out of this with Gaff and a first rounder for Polec.

We could then have the two AFL thugs on the one team, Jonas and Gaff.
 
While elite athletes get some special dispensation with regard to income tax given their short earnings window - is bringing forward a massive annual salary such as the one million in first year of the deal for Polec actually good? FishingRick04 ?

Exactly what id be doing, if Polec tells us he is going, first thing we should do is call Gaff's Manager.

This is almost a Daniel Pearce/Phil Davis situation. Someone is offering such a significant pay rise to the point where if i was having a beer with him as a friend I’d be offering to help pack his bags. He’d be nuts not to - he is not worth more than Ryder/Eddie betts/Dixon etc.

I don’t want to see him go but I have no I’ll feelings if he does.

So we know of any GWS // Gold Coast players we could shake loose and put on a wing for a first ?

Agree Macca. I would hate to lose him but it is hardly shut up shop time if he goes.

Adelaide lost Dangerfield for not much really and played in a grand final a couple of years later.

If you are good enough you find a way.

If that was the case he would be going to NSW or Queensland, not heading home to Victoria.
 
I want Polec to stay and think it doesn't make sense for him to leave but... whatever. If he wants a bigger contract fair enough.

If we trade Polec for say approx pick ten, and trade for Hall for say pick 40, get Lycett as a free agent then it would be something like.

Out: Polec, one delisting (Toumpas), pick 40.
In: Lycett, Hall, pick 10.

Even if we lose...we win.

If Bugg becomes available at years end, we should get him too. Then we'll have the unholy trinity.
 
He's a very frustrating player with serious limitations. He's useless in the air and a liability in physical contests. He is an unreliable shot for goal (set shot or on the run) despite his reputation. He doesn't have a right foot.

I'll admit that he has surprised me this year and is playing some very good football. But I would prefer to part ways now when he has strong currency, given that his recent consistency is an aberration in the overall context of his career and he has long-term injury concerns.

There is no 'dislike' button so i have to reply.
Polec is a very productive and skillful player that will come close to winning Ports highest award this year.
"Frustrating"? I call Dixon dropping simple marks frustrating. Ollie not being able to kick a drop punt frustrating ... every player at times frustrates the fans.
"He doesn't have a right foot". Yeah, but his left is elite and ultra damaging. No player is perfect.
Polec is playing his best footy this year after coming back from a career threatening injury. I just hope he continues to play brilliant footy for us. It just feels like another Shaun Burgoyne moment facing this club. Shaun had a knee concern ... and look what unfolded.

That isn’t a win. Losing who is possibly our most damaging midfielder (maybe behind wingard, excluding Gray as he plays more foward) for a ruckman who will only play if Ryder goes out, a guy that can’t get games consistently at the suns and pick 10 isn’t a win.

Losing Polec significantly weakens our side. People say “Dangerfield left and the crows played in a GF” they had depth to cover his position. Polec is our only elite kicking fast midfeilder who is also a very capable contested possession winner, he is 9th for Meters gained in the comp. next closed it wingard at 53, then it’s Hartlett in third (average).

We don’t have another player on our list that comes into to replace Polec, or do we really want Amon back in the side ? Maybe Bonner can go to a wing, but that’s a maybe, Polec is a proven. Loosing him is a massive loss. If he is going we need to win a premiership this year, becouse if he goes it’s a while away (unless we pull of a miricle at the trade/free agancy table)

Nobody is doubting his ability, but the financial cost is too high, there's no point paying him that much as he'll have nobody to kick it to!

Hall is actually a great player who has had some trouble with injuries and playing in a shocking team. I rate him highly. Not quite as high as Polec, but he’s still very decent and easily best 22 when fit.

The key is to play him deeper for longer and the marks in good positions will follow, we currently play him as a 110 keg cross country runner doubling back at the rate of knots to get back inside 50 on the flip.. in short our gameplan sucks for KPF's
 
im really getting quite pissed at people, some (although few) on here and most on like facebook etc having shots at polec for leaving.
the kid would be silly not to get that sorta cash while he can.
he has proclaimed nothing but love for us, played his guts out especially this year, and doesnt really want to leave.
The lure of money is to much for the young guy. good on him, get it while he can!

Would be welcome back to the port rooms anytime!
