What's he missed in recent times? I had a glance and estimate it's 1 game in the last 47. If that's the case I'd rate him as a fit player.
Yeah it's been a couple of years since it's been a big problem. We don't know if it's completely gone away though.

Not so sure...Dixon came to us with glass ankles we offered him shitloads.. Rocky the same and he's still struggling to lift his arms above his head

Polec was told to have his foot fused which would mean he could never run again let alone play football. On the injury severity scale it was at the most severe end and there is still some concern over that even a few years down the track. Giving him a 5 year contract and on that sort of coin is an uneccesary risk for a very good but not great player. It's a risk #lolnorf need to take but we don't.

From a risk management issue, the uncertainty about his injury makes the front-loaded contract even more attractive.

Come on mate, I usually like the way you post but you haven’t had the best 24 hours in this thread. If he wants the security of a 5 year contract see you later. Would be irresponsible for the club to match that. I’m %100 sure matching the $ isn’t the issue.

I have posted some poor over-hyped stuff agree [this issue gets me really worked up even though it's still a mere rumour], but if we work on the basis of the rumours being true, I really can't fathom why the club wouldn't offer him 4 or 5 and better money. It's an indictment on the list management of the club if he leaves due to significent contract terms disparity - I firmly believe that. Didn't we offer a banged-up 28 year old Rockliff a 4 year deal? Polec would look at that and rightly roll his eyes - or perhaps it really is as simple as pressure from his partner - or a bit of both.

Dixon is a KPF so apples and oranges there.

And Polec can roll his eyes at Rockliff but which one of them has club captain, All Australian and B&F winner on their CV?

You get what you deserve. Except if you go to North, then you get more than you deserve ;)

What's funny is he probably knows his foot is on borrowed time, so that 5 year contract would mean his foot could explode and he could just put his feet up and wait out the end of his career, lol.

Here, if his foot explodes he wouldn't have that luxury.

It will hurt watching him hit Sideshow Bob lace out on the tit week after week, year after year.

I’m sure the pull from his GF is playing a massive part. Good luck to them. I’m also happy to back in the club/medical team and if they’re only willing to give 3 years I’ll cop it. Good draft to get an extra 1st round pick in.

Can you really not think of a single reason why we would hesitate to offer a long-term deal to a player whose career was nearly ended by a navicular injury?

I guess we are dealing hypotheticals here....

But if Polec was to leave this would be the best time for the club and him to do it.

Polec gets his contract and sure up his future given his foot (cant blame him). ..club does get decent compensation without the risk of offering a guy who seems to be on borrowed time.

Polec is a good player and a match winner offensively but his defensive work is well ...its bad.

Hypothetically Next year if his foot breaks down I can't help but think we all would be screaming...

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but from what I gather he is completely healed and from here he shouldn't be at a higher risk than anyone else, particularly if they just manage his running time well (which we do, and any other club would).

If that's the case then my view is he won't end up at North via a trade. He's a good player and the type we need, but he isn't Robert Flower.

There'll be other suitors for our 8-10 pick.

Our 2019 1 st round pick is going to be needed for the best young player in the comp (Kelly), so there's no chance in hell we are going to risk blowing it.

It's neither here nor there at the end of the day for us mate.

If you can prise a top 5 pick out of a club for a bloke that didn't crack the top 10 of your B&F last year despite playing 22 matches, then Port will have pulled off the trade of the century.

LOL

2016 - 17 games
2017 - 22 games
2018 - 19+ games

But let's panic at the thought of giving him an extra year and roll the dice on the 20% probability a pick 11 in the draft becomes a 200 game player.

After the Lobbe contract can't blame the club for being a bit shy on this.

But as powermacs said happy to back the medicos judgement on this.

He is healed but he is much more likely to have the injury reoccurring than the average Joe. We have to carefully program his training to manage the risk factors. He doesn't train two days in a row for example.

If he's playing and training on harder decks more often this will add more risk.

I would have thought that a club offering a substantial contract to a player, would be willing to trade substantially. Why offer big dollars then get cheap at the trade table? It's disingenuous and reputation destroying.
