He was “sacked” at port weeks after signing a 3 year extension, allegedly due to a punch up with Ken
Lol this punch up is getting ridiculous.

There was an offer from West Coast that was "more senior".

JS wasn't decided. He scheduled a meeting with Chris Davies over coffee to work out what was going on. The time came and went, Davies "forgot" the meeting.

Decision made. No malice. CD was just a useless campaigner, ALA Port under Compare the Meerkat.

this reflects well on Carr’s conviction in what he wants if as was said earlier Schoey was keen to come and shows Carrs on multiple occasions now made calls on former team mates

The bloke that took over Subiaco after Schoey managed a couple more flags but they've since fallen off a cliff and that bloke was sacked/parted ways a few weeks ago - only the woeful WCE reserves stopped Subi from getting the spoon this year. Maybe Schoey will head back there.

If Paddy Sweeney is anything like the news service footy journos here, I wouldn't be placing too much faith in what he said.

If true, disappointing from a "get bashed by schofield" meme standpoint but I wont be pissed unless its like, that ****ing hobo looking sutcliffe who gets it instead.

Depends who we land.

I know Schofield isn't first choice for Carr. That's a fact.

I wonder whether Schofield learnt that and has decided to pursue a different opportunity.

Sounded like Schoey was keen to come back, so if Carr has said no he might have secured the team he wants.

That is possible too. From what I heard, the return of Schoey was more driven by himself than the club/Carr.

Perhaps. Might also reflect that Ken will be paid the going rate of 2x assist coaches for nothing in 2026.

Yeah, he seems to have a vision of what he wants.

He doesn't seem to have that nepotism which we've accustomed to with the club but wants the best guys for the job.

For season 2026 the AFL announced

  • Updated Soft Cap Limit increases for 2026 ($750,000) and 2027 ($350,000)
  • 20% of Senior Assistant or Coaching Director salary to sit outside the cap
  • Senior Coach marketing service agreements up to $100,000 to sit outside cap
  • AFL to invest $500,000 per year into AFL coach support across increased professional development grants and career transition programs.

Throw in Carr being paid substantially less per season than Hinkley, then Hinkley's payout will have no meaningful impact on Port's financial capacity to add new off-field staff. We may not hear anything until after the finals. That leaves a lot of shadows to jump at.

Unfortunately this applies to all clubs, including the 17 others without a $400k stone of shame attached to their neck.

Why is he getting paid significantly less? That's pretty insulting to Josh.
