There was an article in this mornings Hun about White's time at Melbourne being over.

1-2 year deal anyone? Would probably be preferable to Brogan.

Jeff White has alot more to offer in the ruck than Cameron Cloke, and Hampson looks like he's at least another season away from being ready.

Obviously the price would have to be right though (ie super cheap)

Forget it. He's going to the Gold Coast for business. He's just started a new business up and is heading over there at end of year. His football career is over in a few weeks

Right now Brogan or White would be a handy addition. 1-2years is all we need... and im sure an experienced Ruckman would be handy for us to help out Kreuzer and Hampson. These blokes lack experience...

No thanks :thumbsd:

I'd rather play Cloke and wait for Hampson to develop.
You're assuming that will happen. Based on what I've seen in the AFL and VFL this year, I am not 100% sure the Hampson experiment will have a fairytale ending. If it does, Hampson is a good 18-24 months away from being ready for AFL IMO. I really hope he makes it.

the longer we have CLoke as a ruck, the longer we are going to get a smashing in that department, he gives his best but he lacks the height to play that position... maybe we can try him else where on the pitch, and give either White or Brogan a run in the rucks...
CLoke would be great in the forward line, his taken some stunnihg pack marks this year up forward, so this could be a viable option...
we need experiance in the rucks, it will also help develop our kreuzers and hampsons alot quicker

No.

No old recruits, unless they're DIRT cheap.

Jeff White cannot compete with big ruckmen anymore since they changed the ruck rules and since he's lost a bit in his leap. I watched him get rag-dolled by Darren Jolly (a ruckmen Melbourne let go because they had White) some time ago and it was embarrassing. Men against boys stuff.

If we're gonna get thrashed in the ruck I'd rather have it be Kreuzer and Hampson learning, or Cam Cloke doing it for peanuts.

If White still had the passion to play he would be helping the young rucks develop at Melbourne.

Fact is, he knows his best is behind him and doesn't want to put it on the line anymore, hence he has dropped down the order at the Dees for preferred rucks.

Would be another Ackland IMO, hard to motivate to "get up" for games.

Brogan I think still has the fire in the belly and would be a much better fit. A bit of mongrel in the C sq.:thumbsu:

Too old. While it would be nice to have a ready made ruck, it's not absolutely essential right now. Hampson and Kruezer will improve nicely over the next year or 2. Our midfield is probably the best in the AFL, and have shown they are pretty good at roving the opposition ruck taps. :)

I'd consider it but I'm worried that he's past it. You've got to worry that he's not getting a game for a struggling team, but in saying that Dean Bailey is playing the youngsters instead and Paul Johnson is doing quite well. Brogan or White, one or the other.

there are a few ruckman that are gone this year or are holding on for dear life

White
Brogan
Everitt
Gardiner
Bryan
Ackland
Lade
Street
Laycock

I know street is 28 at the end of this year but i doubt he will be gone from the AFL or holding onto dear life. From all reports i have heard about Street this year is he is dominating in the VFL but due to the form of Hudson and Minson he cant get a spot in the team......I wouldn't be surprised if a few clubs at the end of the season enquired about a possible trade.

On a side note who would of thought 1 year ago the Bulldogs would have the luxary of three in form Ruckmen.

..., I really question the label of best midfield in the league....

Well stop focusing on your virtual football stuff, and actually watch the game a bit and learn. lol. If you watch the Blues V Bulldogs game, you'll note that Judd and Stevens were a long long way above anything in the Bulldogs midfield. It was a brutal display of raw midfield talent. When you add Murph, and now Gibbs to that mix, plus a very large supporting cast, it is a potent combination, only held back by the fact they have to rove the opposition taps while Kruezer and Hampson develop. It is a better midfield in terms of raw talent and upside than the Hawks and Cats, but both those teams have much better rucks at this stage. :)

Jeff White has been a champion ruckman for Melbourne for a long time. He's only 31, isn't injury riddled (to my limited knowledge) and will likely be more or less free in the PSD. If his attitude is right we could do worse but it would signify a shift in our thinking. We don't really want to do a St Kilda and forget that its recruiting kids that got us in a position to play finals for a number of years ahead.

Would take him for nothing in the PSD and let Cloke play at CHF for the next year or two with the Kreuz pinch hitting. Could be a good mentor for the young rucks coming through. Hampson looks the goods to me but definatly needs at least a year to develop. Think the only reason he isn't getting a game at the moment is because the D's are developing their youngsters

I'd need to be convinced he is going to give 100%.

I don't think he is this year for the club that has been his home.......not sure why he would do it for us.

Yep that's a good point. It sounds all well and good getting a ruckman at the tail end of their career as a buffer for Kreuzer, but if they just don't care and are only there for the pay check then the whole team would be affected.

I'd still with Brogan over White. Like BB, still has the desire to play at the highest level, and if we could get him cheaply, it might be worth looking into.

Brogan is also much more of a physical presence than White. We could definitely do with more physicality as a team.
