Yep, Cameron to the Doggies (likely to improve anyway next year with another preseason into the young group) could instantly put them in finals contention next year, depending on what they gave up for him.

I suspect it would be too much.....

We used/offered Dal Santo in a similar regard last year when negotiating to get Luke Delaney from North. If they hadn't agreed to basically give Delaney to us for a bag of chips, I dare say we wouldn't have let Dal go for just the free agency compo pick (25) that we ended up getting for losing him.

Didn't you have an option of a other year or something ?

Normally a club has no say in letting a free agent go or not. They sign with whoever they want.

As long as it wasn't Libba, I think if he showed genuine interest in going to your club you'd just have to get it done.
JC doesn't seem like the sort of person to screw GWS by specifying one club. If he does more than say he wants Victoria I think that is unfair for them. I hope it's every Victorian club bidding in an open auction.

Not sure why he'd want to leave GWS to go to any random Victorian club though. It's not like he's from Melbourne and wants to come home. The place he grew up is about as close to Adelaide as it is to Melbourne, isn't it?

I posted something on this earlier, I just don't think we have the cattle to make GWS interested in a trade. If you excluded the kids (Macrae, Stringer, Bontempelli, Hunter, Hrovat etc), our middle aged bracket is: Stevens, Higgins, Williams, Libba, Wallis, Roughead, Jones, Crameri (at a guess - not an exact list).

Wallis and Libba are F/S picks, Roughead is our only performing KPD, Jones is hit and miss as a KPF - but would probably be far more effective with Cameron in the team. Some supporters aren't sold on Wallis and would trade him, but I'd imagine that Libba and Roughie would be off the table. Doesn't leave much that GWS would be keen on.

Does anyone actually think Jeremy Cameron will want to go to a minnow club in Victoria? Just can't see him pulling on a Doggies jumper or a NM jumper, perhaps Melbourne are a chance should they continue to improve but you'd think he would want to play in a side capable of competing at the top.
True why would he want to go to a club like Dogs or North who have regurally played in finals in recent times when he can go to a powerhouse like Richmond.

Also did someone seriously say it would be unfair on GWS for him to leave?

Doesn't matter the afl won't let him leave, expect a nice big "ambassador for the game in nsw" cheque to arrive at his door step if he looks like leaving

Ohhh man give me a break, are you that blinded with Red and Black in your eyes that you honestly see Carlisle worth more than Luke Breust? For one he is 184cm so hardly a small forward, he has kicked 15 goals from set shots! He is 2nd in coleman, 1st in goal assists and averages 18 touches a game, he would be a perfect fit at GWS and at 23 years of age has a decade left in the game.
I'm not saying he isn't a gun. And how is 184cm *not* a small forward? Mark LeCras is 183cm. Chad Wingard 181cm. Angus Monfries 185cm. Jason Winderlich 188cm. All small forwards. GWS don't need small forwards, they have Devon Smith who is developing into a gun, Jed Lamb looks a likely type in a similar role to Bruest (not as good obviously), Liam Sumner can't get a game and he's another small forward. Compare a gun KPD (Carlisle) vs a gun small forward (Bruest). A team with horrible deficiencies in defence, and a future gun forward line regardless of whether or not Cameron leaves. Hell, even a Hawthorn supporter agrees Carlisle is the perfect fit for GWS.

He could turn to them and sorry GWS I'll sit a year out and go to the pies for nought the year after in the ND and if a team tries to select me I will sit another year out.

If he wants to be a sook and literally give up upwards of 2 million dollars then he's the dumbest footballer going around.

People (especially Victorian fans, because it benefits them) don't want to look at it, but the AFL have to do something about player movement of players before free agency. How are crappy teams (especially crappy NSW and QLD sides) supposed to get better if they continually lose talent from the draft? What's the point of a draft as an equalisation measure if players can force a trade three years in as soon as they get good?

Hopefully they'll go hard at the AFLPA next CBA over this issue.

They got over exaggerated draft picks for this very reason they knew some would leave.

Small forward in my eyes is Ballantyne, Milne, Davey, Hitchcock, Garlett, Thomas etc. Small forwards do their best work on the ground and are traditionally types who feed of packs. Luke Breust can crumb really well, however he is probably better on the lead hence the reason he has had so many set shots. 184cm is 6ft1, to me thats more mid sized.

184cm is 6'0" (well technically it's 183=6'0"). Average height in the AFL is ~188cm or 6'2". Bruest is a small forward.

If he wants out of the shambles that is GWS it'll be to a competitive team rather than the one that pays the most. If Hawthorn or Collingwood have cap space I think that's where he'll go.

First of all im not Victorian i am from NSW.

Secondly I was being a smart ass. As he could well do it if he was so inclined but how many footballers would forgo a year out of the game to do so? none that I know.

Talent poaching goes both ways as Adelaide and Hawks fans know too well.

I think Melbourne or potentially Carlton can Get him.

lose Frawley / Gibbs to free agency. Lets say that both finish 16th-13th -ish

They will get anything from picks 4,5 through to 7,8, both of which will put them within the ballpark to get Cameron. Picks 4 and 5 should be very close to getting it done, 7/8 + A handy player - Howe / Menzal would get it done.

They should implement a retention allowance so those crappy NSW and QLD sides win some flags, then take it off them when they flaunt it too much.
