Very well said. Some people shoot off the hip for no reason. One would be forgiven for thinking that Jericho has played around with their misus. :D

Give the kid a break FFS. He will be a lot better player than people here give him credit for. This situation reminds me of Hentschel debate this time last year. Nearly everyone had him well and truely written off. Some people need patience. It ain't gonna happen over night. He played 15 odd games as a 19 year old. What the hell more do you want?!?!?! A Ricciuto?????
Stiffy - if this was aimed at me - go back and read my original post and come back and tell me where I slagged Jericho. I made some observations about why he might me perceived as being soft in the contest - ie a heavy bump early in his career...and expressed my hope that a bigger body might see him involve himself a bit more. As I said - I'd like to see him playing on the wing this year......but he doesn't make my Round 1 squad of 22 at this stage.

Some people shoot off the hip for no reason.

pot....kettle....

Not a diirect go at you because you are not the only one writing Jericho off at this VERY early stage. Fact is he is still one of the most talented youngsters going around. Sure he is not a hard at it player but its hardly the reason to write him off. Let him fill out a bit and with more bulk will come more confidence to attack the ball and the man.

I mean he is 19 and for years we have cried out for a youngster to come in and play a dozen games in a year and when we finally have one we find a reason to bag him. Lets not forget his 4th quarter effort in the showdown. It was his 2 goals in pressure situation that sealed the win for us. Doesn't that tell people he is more than capable??????

I just don't get this unwarranted bagging of someone who has actually shown something in his 1st year of senior footy at ANY level.

And wasn't it you that said in the other thread "My Nana> Bock> Jericho"??????

I have not written Jericho off.

He is not in my best 22....but as I said in a post in the "2005 AFC side" a month or so ago when we posted our best teams...

"I've left Jericho out who needs to toughen up before getting a spot....but he is closer than some others"..and....."Watts/Jericho/Bock/Doughty/Hudson are pretty much my emergencies".....

....that is not righting him off.

as for the other thread.............that was in response to someone's suggestion that he and Bock were KPPs ............. and NOT a comment about him as a player in general..........and I stand by what I said .....Jericho and Bock are not KPPs.

I think with a bigger body Jericho will be ok........

You gotta admit though, that's quite funny. As I have said, all players start with a clean slate in 2005. However, let's not go overboard in our praise of our list, because IMO nearly 1/3 will be/should be playing for their futures.

Sure but to continually bag a lad that doesn't deserve it?????? I repeat that it was his FIRST year of senior footy at ANY level. I am happy with his showing first up.

this could also be said for bock
the kid managed 18 games in his first year of AFL and all we hear is critisism (yes i have sometimes)

for a team that was screaming for Young players we are a critical bunch of supporters sometimes

Maybe people have seen certain aspects of his game that worry them, I know I have. Let's move on, clean slate in 2005 IMO.

1 more working day to go. When i say working day, I mean a day of 50% BF and 50% work.

It's a fine line we tread isn't C. If anythink, I think we have overestimated our list in the past, hence our current predicament.

i think what was overestimated was the ability of the starting 22 to get us into the finals we seemed to go "wow our first 22 is great we should make the finals" but werent prepared for injuries (IMO), what needs to be done now is to develop a squad that has 28-9 starting 22 players (so that leaves people out of course) with the remaining playes developing youngsters. unfortunatly we currenly have a crop of developing youngster who are 21-23 instead of 19-21

except for Jericho and watts of course

i agree we have to be smarter in looking at our list but lets no be too over critical - I'm sure in his early days Carey had his faults (not that i am comparing Carey to Jericho)

Spot on. Hence we overestimated out list. In 2002 it did actually look like all we needed was a Wayne Carey to go for the big one in 03. But what we failed to realise was that we would only be a chance for the cup if our first 22 remained injury free. We didn't have the depth to cover long term injuries to Goodwin and Stevens.

i suppose you are right but wasnt hentshel, rutten and co (except Jericho and Watts )on the list as well ?
I think our list was poorly managed as well, not ginving the young guys a decent crack really cost us in 02
