I'd rather cop nothing in two years. Not only is Jesse one of the best young key forwards in the comp, he's our only key forward. He's required at Melbourne.
We've just seen two premiership sides with medium sized forward lines. We are pretty top heavy with Hogan, McDonald, and Hogan. Down back we will be oversized as well if McDonald has to go down there.

You're overrating pick 5.

If it gets you Lever?

This still leaves the Dees with pick 10 to bring Sam Hayes in as Gawns understudy.

I agree. Our best set up is McDonald down back, with small and medium forwards playing around Hogan. Melbourne wouldn't be shopping Watts around if Jesse was on the move.

Prepared to trade one of those Hogans for pick 5 if we get to keep the good one.

We need McDonald as a back up ruckman potentially. Who else is going to ruck if Gawn goes down? Lets get serious, we need McDonald to potentially turn into a Brian Lake type defender. Oscar may be surplus to requirements, and Hogan stays at CHF with a very mobile forward line - Harmes, Melksham, Petracca, Garlett, AVB.

Someone else is better off being traded and it might be Oscar.

Would two firsts from Fremantle, with you sending a second back, be closer to the mark? Or even a first and and then a 2018 first swap (essentially a pick upgrade for you, most likely).
If they want to give us two first rounders for Hogan, I'd be stoked. I'd ship back a second rounder. But I would be keeping that quiet and doing the Lever deal first for pick 10, hopefully Adelaide accept that.

We aren't about to see teams chucking out their tall forwards because a mosquito fleet won the flag. That was not by design. In the end they could have played another key forward yes. But they had Hampson Elton Griffiths injured during year and Soldo and Maric probably not ideal to play with Nank. So in the end this year it worked to play the small forwards. But realistically it was the teams ability and want to work hard and pressure as a whole that won them the flag. Also having the best key back and best midfielder helps.

If anything getting rid of Watts works to the narrative of the smaller forward line. Hogan will not be going anywhere if the club has a choice. He stacks up against pretty much every young key forward at the 50 game mark.

The go-home factor has always been one of things that really irks me about the AFL - wether my club benefits from it or not.

Melbourne have to cling on to this guy like grim death if they can. Hogan is exactly the sort of player you build a list around.

Feel sorry for Melbourne supporters with this never dying story. They only got brief relief after his last signing. So far this time, there is not even smoke.

Please, we had to put up with it for pretty much the entirety of Pav's career.
This week will be interesting though; all attention will turn to Jesse once Lever makes his intentions clear.

You don't have to sell him to me mate. I am a fan.

There was a qualified "if" in my post.

Pick 5, 2018 2nd round pick & Balic?

5 & 27 for Lever to the Crows

This means:

In: Lever, Balic, 2018 2nd round (~25)
Out: Hogan, pick 27

I assume pick ~25 in next years draft would be weighted around pick 12-15 this year.

Melbourne traded pick 3 and 14 for Hogan, no way would they accept that deal.
