The West trying to win over Freo fans with a positive story about Jesse...

They've come to the same conclusion as I did about Hogan. He is a gun key forward who also has the attributes of a forward flanker. He and McCarthy are the reason we can play 4 talls. They are both incredibly good kicks and smart footballers. McCarthy's pressure last week was honestly the best I've seen from any of our tall/medium forwards for a long time (ie going back to Mayne at his best) - as backed up by stats. If he brings that each week our forward line will be awesome.
I think it's the future of AFL as more and more talent pools are opened up globally I think all players will tend towards athletic talls that pressure and kick like the shorter guys now with the advantage of size and height in marking.

There will be stutters as we head there with teams playing slow talls who can only cover 9km a game and can't jump but I do expect the public attitude towards it to shift slowly over time from "talls are slow and can't run".

Dockers supporters seriously need act with our feet and stop listening/reading media outlets who are hostile to Freo ie 6PM.

Club in turn needs to stop doing interviews with hostile media, just like politicians do.

If we can hurt hostile media with reduced ratings, money speaks and they will pull their head in.

I just disagree with this. If the media is giving us negative press then it's the clubs job to get smarter about what they are doing.

There is clearly a history and a pattern of behaviour that the WA media has with our club and that has been in my opinion due to the success of the Eagles and them having a stranglehold on the market in WA as well as Freo just shooting themselves in the foot on and off the field at various times.

Basically our lows have been lower than the Eagles (bad press for us) and their highs have been higher than ours (good press for them). Thems the facts. Connections between the Eagles and the media hasn't helped our cause going all the way back to Gary Stocks crossing the line from WA media to Eagles employee.

Just not doing interviews and seeing the media as hostile is a recipe for disaster imo. Sure the club can jut have a fortress mentality but that will only hurt the club in the long run. The Eagles have a large enough share of WA that the media could (and does) just ignore us at times.

The club just needs to get it's act together on the field (starting to happen) and as can be seen the articles will start to swing our way.

The idea that we can't do anything to change the media's dialogue about us is (I'm sorry to say) victim mentality stuff.

Are we up against it with the media? Yep.
Is it partly due to us not getting a 'fair go' for a variety of reasons? Yep.
Is that partly our doing? Yep.
Can we do something about it and just be smarter about it in the long run? Yep.

Only one way to shut up the outside noise, win the Derby. Must use the ball well going forward, spread the
defenders and Hogan takes McGovern.
Beat those Turkeys and sort out Gaff, it's what I want to see. Line in the sand moment.
Just like the old days of Carey vs Jackovich, bring back the one on one contests.

You can be smart about things. No open war but more of a Cold War.

Do 6pm in the morning program but not with sports department.

Do more interviews with ABC and SEN.

At press conferences pick the least hostile media person. Just don’t answer hostile question.

Example of Lyons giving the famous what’s your name answer isn’t a great idea. Better to say nothing or very little like Popvich in the NBA does or just do what Politicians do and don’t answer the question and just the message you want to say.

Speak to the AFL about promoting the club and reduce the negative commentary about the Dockers.

If the West writes something unfair, then ban the writer and give interviews with less hostile like Mark Duffield.

Have of the media do some media work for us. Money speaks louder than works. Ie Big nose doing voice over for a membership drive.

In the end, divide and conquer.

Yep pole smokers like Hackdorn,Hardie and to a lesser extent Basil should be told to faark off the first two just hate Lyon and will do anything to destabilise the club to get their man.

Don’t go their program. Do the morning drive show.

Big nose is a bigger problem. We have to deal with him.

Get him to work for the club. Harder to criticize the person who pays you.

He was trash today and we looked better last week without him. Send him back to Peel and he can earn his spot.

(Not really, lets eee how he goes up forward with Lobb and Tabs).

I thought he showed a bit, all four of the tall fowards played well enough to keep their spots.

Unless you’re one with a survey book, whether you listen/watch etc is completely irrelevant.

Thats the really hard part isn't it.

All four individually showed enough to prove they are certainly worthy of being in the team, but is it structurally the way to go? That i'm not completely sold on.

Based on the performances of them individually you couldn't justify dropping any IMO, i'm just not sure its the best option for us.

Jesse Hogan could get away with shit in Melbourne – I saw him out after games, behaving and misbehaving. There's just a culture there of simply not caring if someone is a footballer. People are less likely to get a phone out. It's also a little more accepted.

But in Perth – when you're a big person who stands out in a crowd, plays footy for one of two teams, already has a reputation – it is insane to think you can get away with it. Whether Freo knew about this is conjecture, but if they did they should have realised how it was going to play out in public and the media. It's no shock that all videos of him on the floor laying on a girl, smoking ciggies at festivals, and dancing around dressed like Father Christmas are all taken in Perth.

You just can't do this shit here, it's just not the place.

But I am the same age as this guy, my junior zone was Claremont, I inevitably knew guys who knew him then and know him now. I saw him out. And I know people who know people. Needless to say the yarns are endless and he has some serious shit going down internally – what that is, I don't know, but he should not be playing football. I do not know what his go is, but he isn't right to be playing footy. His head is elsewhere.

You have never spoken to Jesse, how the ++ck would you know the state of Jesses head. I didn't realise that English degrees included psycho analysis . My daughter has a master's in English lit acquired at Cambridge uni and what that has given her is the ability to write damn good fiction. Your so called degree has apparently done the same for you.

Played relatively well on the weekend. 21 disposals ain't half bad for spending most of his time in the midfield. Some disposal was rusty but overall was happy with him. Hope to see him more prominent in our forward line this week!

I thought you put me on ignore?

Not sure if you live in Perth, but no body really gives two rats about AFL stars, my best mate plays Basketball with the noongas and Walters is always down there, you can see Michael Johnson and co walking around the carousel any given weekend, just last month i was swimming at Serpentine Dam with Morabito and it was packed, he didn't have a soul bothering him

I few years ago I was in Subiaco and I and I spotted all three of them there. To be honest they were getting a lot of attention.
