He had 5 scoring shots against Essendon just over a week ago... anyone know of another bloke on the list capable of 5?

...apart from McCarthy, but he's playing 2s.... which is insane.

Maybe people on here think we're hiding Wayne Carey on the list and waiting for the right time to use him.

People jumped all over Kersten for not being defensive enough (even though he was our No2 GK in 2016), McCarthy who kicked 10 goals in 6 games this year, now they're on to Hogan... what next?

The way Freo undervalues blokes who kick goals is appalling.
I just think its funny that somehow, after doing nothing in the WAFL, people think Jones in for Hogan will make us a better a team.

Jones belongs to that elite group of players where the accolades he gets are along the lines of "I love how he splits packs"

He was brought in as a big body ready to go emergency ruck in case we lost Sandi AND Darcy. Then we picked up Lobb and he moved further down the order.

At least I have Grundy in my drafted DT. Might come close to 200 with Jones in the team

I think Lobb is right to go. Wasn't limping at training. There was some bruising, but he should be OK for Saturday.

If we're playing Jones for Hogan, we may as well pick a team based on alphabetical order... it would make about as much sense.

Honestly I retract my statements about Hogan from earlier, the guy is clearly just out of form at this current moment and to be fair he never had a full pre-season. As fans it's our job to back our players and get behind them and that's the best we can do for Jesse. The guy has it all to be the man up forward and i have no doubt he can do exactly that. Although I still would like to see Jones in so Lobb can be freed into the forward line, doing it for Hogan was a pretty dumb suggestion on my end and I admit that.

Careful - you're sounding awfully like a calm and rational human being. Close your account immediately.

Grundy will win most of the hit outs, but if we can match him around the ground then that is a win. Lobb and Cox rotating forward/ruck
And getting on the scoreboard would give Pies something to think about.
At worst Hogan could start in the middle, we have to match them with speed otherwise they will blow us off the park.

An extract from the West today regarding Ross on Hogan:

"Lyon also leapt to the defence of Jesse Hogan, who failed to tally a kick in last week’s one-point win over Brisbane.

Hogan, who was traded from Melbourne at the end of last season, has booted just eight goals in nine games this year.

“I’m not as concerned as everyone else ... but I’ve also got a longer horizon time line for it to come together than others,” Lyon said.

“At the end of eight years here, I’m sure we’ll be saying he’s a champion forward of the club.”

Hogan arrived at Fremantle with a serious navicular foot injury.

Lyon said it was a huge effort just for Hogan to get himself fit for round one, and the key forward still needs more time to regain his running power.

“If you want to really go beyond fingernail deep (analysis), let’s drill right in - he had a navicular where we thought we mightn’t see him until the middle of the year,” Lyon said.

“He got to round one with great application and a great conditioning program, but it was thinner on the ground.

“So he hasn’t actually been able to play at the exact tempo and run.

“But that’s how good Jesse is - he’s found a way to have five or six shots on goal (against Essendon a fortnight ago) when he’s not even near his full capacity.”"

If he's not right , why is he playing, wouldnt that risk further injury?

He is not injured, he is simply not at full fitness due to the lack of pre-season caused by the injury.

It is very, very hard to come to full fitness quickly in the middle of a season where you have to manage recovery week to week.

because the fitness staff want to injure their players. part of their medical training
Given our shocking run of injuries including Fyfe riding himself into the dirt, starting games with a broken leg bone, its not just sarcasm is it?

Persistant rumours he's smoking ciggies too. The main criticism of him though isnt fitness, its his mental readiness. Poor fella, maybe he needs time off to get his head and fitness right.

He’d be very close to full fitness really, 9 weeks of footy plus a bit of pre season, unless he’s too sore to do anything during the week he’d be primed for a big run post bye

Our entire forward line aren't sure of themselves and how they can best work together. And the midfield are still trying to work out how to work with them as well. They just need a bit of time together and to get some stability. This time next year I think they will be transformed as a group and potentially quite lethal.

Yeah look I think he likes a few. I always used to get dominated in school athletics by this one bloke who smoked like a chimney so oh well.

I think it's a work in progress for a variety of reasons. Better in than out I think though.

heard a rumor he was drinking at a house party on sat night before the game. Nonethless the guy is a freak footballer - no preseason and he is still impacting games is pretty good when its really a simple matter of contests impacted * success rate.

Didn't really want to weigh into this but did have a serious slap down against an amateur psychologist Eagles supporter on the main board. So ... it's pretty simple, I'll go with the coach on this one. Lyon's made clear he's happy with Jesse's attitude and output at this stage and he's also made it clear the club is managing Jesse's mental health. I'll take this at face value.

Keep your A graders in the system! It is simple. It was spelt out beautifully by the game preview dude - sorry I will try and reference later. Anyway, it is a fact we have a history of booing our own players - it is one thing about my club that I hate - we have some whinging MOFO pricks that are intent on sabotaging our club.

The one player we need to get behind is Jesse Hogan. He is a Docker from youth and he is a proven jet, and he will come good. Do not push this kid away as we have done to many other prized recruits. I suggest on game day tell people to shut the f up when they choose to jeer any of our players too. If we want to win a premiership, us supporters have to start applauding and not lauding - yep I like that. Go and join Carlton if you want real club hate, you are not welcome at Freo anymore. Hand in your membership, and move on.

Legitimate criticism is welcome though, just stop the rot that brings our whole team down. How do we change our supporter culture and mentality? I do not know anymore.

Eagles supporters should be seeing a psychologist rather than trying to be one.

Theres some control over whats said in here but every docker fan I've talked to in the last few weeks irl is whinging about his performance, and if we had any legit replacement for him it would be seriously damaging to be kept out of the side, but I guess we dont really since mccarthy had his chances and may have similar offield issues anyway. Hope he does well this week or the pressure will only keep building on the poor fellow. Sucks to be him atm, with such expectation.

Freagles opinions don't count, you're talking to the wrong supporters.

Ones that have memberships, the club will suffer if performance is crap, cos its not hard to get tickets for games anymore. Club can try manage pr as much as it likes, if they underperform too long, itll hit them financially. I reckon if you are paying the club 800 plus $ you can at least have an opinion.
