Jimmy Bartel is an interesting one.

Since 2002 he has been my favourite player, and his last half of season 2004 had me creaming my pants waiting to see him develop further in 05 and 06, but nothing has happened.

He can take a great mark, is a good kick, has the courage.... but does he lack that 'x factor' to step up?

I have said a few times that this kid could win a Brownlow and I stil believe it. He rests forwards and can take contested marks, while still picking up 20-25 touches while taking the odd running back with the flight of tha ball stuff that the umpires love.

The amount of times at SS I have seen him sit in the middle of a pack as the ball swirles around in the wind... people running everywhere and the ball lands in his arms... The kid is good.

Does he apply himself enough? Has he taken the foot off the gas like some of his team mates?
2007 will be a big year for the club, and a big year for the Jimmy.

He has so many good aspects to his game that I'll focus on what I feel he lacks.
Yes , a bit of speed but I do feel that he is far from being slow just not quick.Maybe a bit of run , Im not sure he runs the type of K's someone like Cousins does.
What Id also like to see in Jimmys game is a little bit of mongrel. Voss at his best was capable dishing out a savage bump.

If the worst we end up with from P7 is a better version of "the Jimmy" as in Selwood we would be well served

It's getting very harder yes. But imagine if they ban the hip and shoulder all up. I couldnt seriously believe when people like Mike Sheahan said it should be but luckily enough Robert Walls was on the couch with him to shut him down and say "Taking the bump away ruins football all together".

Should be a better player than he is now.

Rubbish. No assistant coach makes that much of a difference. Bartel has had 5 years senior footy now. If he doesn't realise what he has to do to improve no coach will make any difference.

How good have Brisbane gone the last 2 years with Cresswell there?

Their young midfielders have started to step up the way that he had an influence over ours. Players like Sherman, Stiller, Moody, players like that have thrived under Creswell. But I do agree that Bartel has been in the system long enough to know what he needs to do and I think he will step up again next year.

Not convinced about stokes yet, played a really good game against Port but faded in and out of other games, he is at the age now where he should be at his best so this year will have to be a good one.

Would have to disagree with you there champ, when the team was struggleing the ditch the younger players n some how he was one of them, he play good in my books, i think they should of ditch some other players instead of him

How much of that can be attributed to Cresswell rather than training and playing alongside a couple of Brownlow medallists in Voss and Black? I know if I was playing alongside those two I'd want to step up too to prove that I belong playing beside them.

You seem to have blind faith in Cresswell DBAHO. He may well be a good coach, but he isn't the difference.

I am struggling to understand what you are saying but I never said ditch stokes, far from it but looking at his stature he is going to have to show in 2007 that the Port Adelaide game was the rule rather than the exception.
